Built in harmony with the environment

All of the resort’s structures are built in harmony with the island’s natural topography, with no land being cut or filled in the building process.

The coconut tree, the symbol of The Racha, takes pride of place at the resort, with many of these trees being the island’s original inhabitants. The sumptuous villas have been built around them and for every coconut tree that was cut, two were planted to replace it.

A range of environmental initiatives

To save on power, energy saving bulbs or LED rope lights are used throughout the resort, and instead of using chlorine, all of the swimming pool water is ozone treated – the most environmentally sound, chemical free, skin-friendly technology available.

In the spa, only the highest quality locally sourced, paraben-free products are used.

Villa features

Special heat exchangers are used to provide an ample supply of zero-energy hot water for the bathrooms from each villa’s air conditioning system, whilst the condensation water created is used to fill the footbath outside each villa’s front door.

The villas don’t have any fabric curtains, so no laundry is required to clean them, and all villas have double thick exterior walls, thus reducing the energy load on the air-conditioning system.

As in the spa, all of the luxurious shower and bath toiletries are made from locally-sourced organic products, and are contained in ceramic vessels instead of plastic.

The resort grounds

The resort’s lush greenery provides a stable ecosystem for many of the island’s animal inhabitants, and mountain bikes and low emission ATVs are available for guests to explore at their leisure.

Turn off villa lights and air-conditioning when you’re not using them
Have your bed sheets and bath towels changed periodically instead of daily
Join the resort staff for the ‘Daily Beach Clean’ at 9am
Take a self-guided ‘back-of-grounds tour’ and gain a deeper appreciation for The Racha’s conservation efforts. At the edge of the resort gardens, you’re welcome to take a stroll through many of the resort’s larger ‘green’ initiatives, including the hydroponic farm, the drinking water bottling plant, bio-gas station, charcoal station, solar diesel hybrid station and the reservoirs.
