Our pick of the UK’s best beaches

24 March 2019

With so many glorious beaches dotted around the world, it’s no surprise that people tend to look overseas for their next getaway. However, if you know where to go, the beaches right here in the UK can give the ones abroad a serious run for their money.

If you've not yet discovered some of the seaside gems that the UK has to offer, here are six beaches to add to your staycation wish list.

Man O’ War Bay, Dorset

Located just along the stunning Jurassic Coast from the iconic landmark of Durdle Door, the glorious Man O’War Bay is a perfectly formed cove that’s home to shimmering azure waters and a beautiful beach made up of soft sands and fine pebbles.

Given its name, because the shape of the rocks off the bay are said to look like warships, the sea here is lovely and sheltered, so it’s safe for swimming, snorkelling and paddling.

Porthcurno, Cornwall

Cornwall has no shortage of magnificent beaches but perhaps one of its most beautiful is Porthcurno. Located in the far west of Cornwall, close to Land’s End, Porthcurno is a popular choice with families as the towering cliffs on both sides provide a sheltered and safe place for swimming.

Described by many as being a paradise, Porthcurno has won a whole host of awards and it’s not difficult to see why. With its fine soft white sands and brilliant blue waters, it’s a haven of breath-taking natural beauty.

I would agree with the many that Cornwall is a beautiful part of our country and most definitely worth a visit. I would like to go back again and visit other areas we didn’t have time for but would venture to a new part of the county.”
