Beginning with an overnight stay in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent, explore the fascinating old town and bustling Chorsu Bazaar, before meeting your Tour Leader and fellow travellers that evening. Early the next day, take the train to ‘Golden Samarkand’ – the most evocative city of the Silk Road. Over three unforgettable nights here, uncover the many delights of this captivating destination, including the Registan, which is simply the most spectacular architectural ensemble in all of Central Asia.

Bidding farewell to Samarkand, take the spectacular drive through the Zerafshan Mountains to Shakhrisabz, the birthplace of Tamerlane, before a three-night stay in another of the Silk Road’s most legendary cities – Bukhara. Brimming with history, the Ark Fortress, Samanid Mausoleum and the Kalyan Minaret are just some of the wonders not to be missed. Get a real sense of what it could have been like in the days of Marco Polo as you explore the city’s covered bazaars, where rugs, silks and spices are still traded as they were in the heyday of the Silk Road.

Continuing your once-in-a-lifetime adventure, explore the ancient city of Khiva, before boarding the overnight train back to Tashkent. Soak up the atmosphere of this unique city on a fascinating sightseeing tour, and then travel beyond the capital to the lush Fergana Valley - the lyrical land of fruit and honey. Continuing through this breath-taking oasis, visit the silk-weaving town of Margilan, before the spectacular mountain scenery of Kyrgyzstan beckons and a homestay in the beautiful town of Sary Tash.

Crossing the border into China, spend three nights in the illustrious Silk Road market town of Kashgar, where you’ll visit the magnificent yellow-tiled Id Kah Mosque – one of the largest in Central Asia. Continuing north through the barren mountains, pass Muslim shrines and the yurts of Central Asia’s nomads, before crossing the Torugart Pass back into Kyrgyzstan. Stay in one of the few remaining Silk Road caravanserais at Tash Rabat and enjoy a night in a traditional yurt under some of the world’s most astonishing skies.

Continuing through the rugged Kyrgyz steppe to the quaint and friendly village of Kochkor, along the northern shores of glistening Issyk Kul Lake and onto Cholpon Ata, you’ll then reach Kyrgyzstan’s capital of Bishkek. Enjoy an excursion to the breath-taking Ala-Archa National Park, and explore the city’s many parks and intriguing soviet buildings, before your once-in-a-lifetime journey concludes back in fascinating Tashkent, where there’ll be ample time to soak up the city’s plethora of glittering sights.

With a comprehensive schedule of sightseeing with specialist local guides included, together with plenty of time to relax and explore on your own, this epic journey is designed especially for the traveller seeking high adventure amidst a breath-taking unspoilt wilderness.
