Where will you choose for the October half-term break?

31 March 2021

2021 hasn’t been the year of travel that many of us hoped for so maybe it’s time to start looking ahead and planning our future adventures to give us something to look forward to.

As the temperatures start to drop and the autumn weather sets in, October is a great time to jet off to warmer climes. So I thought I’d bring you some inspiration for holidays that are guaranteed to pack fun for the whole family.

The Guarantee of year-round sunshine is one of many reasons why people visit Tenerife, representing a perennial choice for travellers looking for a safe, family-friendly destination where alluring golden sands can be found in droves. From Playa de las Américas appeal as an entertainment and activity haven, to Costa Adeje’s chic boutique hotel offerings and Los Gigantes’ serene atmosphere, Tenerife encapsulates an enticing destination for all travellers.

Ritz Carlton Abama (pictured)

Perfect for all ages and tastes, this Moorish-inspired resort includes two Michelin-starred restaurants with sunset views among its ten excellent dining venues. There are seven swimming pools to choose from including family and adults-only pools. A renowned 18-hole golf course designed by a Ryder Cup veteran and a tennis academy. There is also the popular Ritz Kids club, catering to ages 4 to 12 years, where they can enjoy experiencing varied ecosystems ranging from forests to coral reefs and learning about sustainability. There are also opportunities for golf, whale-watching, mountain-trekking, helicopter tours, cooking classes, wine tasting and stargazing - to name just a few!

A decidedly family-friendly beach destination, Lanzarote’s UNESCO World Biosphere status transcends it far beyond your average seaside escape. From dining within volcanic caves, to exploring the otherworldly landscape by bike or foot, this gloriously juxtaposed Canary Island destination contains plenty of unique attractions and a varied assortment of appealing accommodations from which to explore them.

Seaside Los Jameos Playa (pictured)

Located right on the beachfront at Playa Blanca, with direct access to the white sandy beach of Playa Dorada and just half a mile from the Marina and Old Town, Seaside Los Jameos Playa offers on-site activities and concierge-arranged excursions such as hiking, quad-bike safaris and wine-tasting. There’s Kikoland, an outstanding children’s area with play areas and entertainment, as well as a kids’ club for ages 4–12 years, a tennis school, squash courts and beach volleyball among its many facilities. It’s also able to arrange water sports, bike hire and other activities, as well as offering discounts on green fees on the island’s golf courses. Upgrade to all-inclusive for fantastic benefits ranging from themed nights to show cooking.

With its striking cliffs overlooking golden sands, it is easy to see why the Algarve is Portugal’s most popular holiday destination. The calm waters of the country's southernmost region are ideal for travellers looking to spend their days enjoying water sports such as kayaking and snorkelling. Lush forests surround enchanting castle towns, while wine lovers flock to the mountainous north to sample quality produce from miles of terraced vineyards. The Algarve’s cultural diversity, affordability and the friendliness of its people make it an appealing getaway for all.

Conrad Algarve (pictured)

The five-star Conrad Algarve brings contemporary luxury and impeccable service to the Algarve. With an impressive setting in Quinta do Lago, the resort is located close to the Atlantic Ocean and its sandy beaches, and to many world-class golf courses. It’s a fabulous place for families: The Little C Palace is a holiday experience designed by children, for children. Local schoolchildren helped to design a holiday club that they would want to stay at. From the mascots, stories, experiences to food and even the menu cover – all of it was designed with the expertise & opinions of local children! Younger guests can expect everything from a treasure trove of goodies in their room to culinary masterclasses for parents and children to enjoy together; memories you’re sure to treasure!

Perched on the sun-drenched Gulf coastline, Dubai has so much to offer and guaranteed glorious weather to match. Imagine world-class dining, incredible architecture, a myriad of shopping experiences, lavish spas and spectacularly chic hotels and resorts, all in one city.

There are theme parks for families or romantic meals in tranquil desert locations for couples who want a night away from the kids – what’s not to love?

With stunning views of the Arabian Gulf and the Dubai skyline on each side, the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray offers easy access to the business district, world-class golf courses, theme parks, shopping malls and traditional souks, while providing guests with a tranquil haven. Equipped with its own jetty, it provides boat transfers to and from Dubai Marina. Back on-site, the Sinbad’s Kids Club engages ages 4–16 years in the likes of rock-climbing, cinema screenings and cookery, as well as offering its own mini water-park, and there are also water sports, tennis courts with professional tennis coaching, beach volleyball and live performances in the Music Hall.

Florida is a holiday playground like no other. Whether it’s the miles of soft sandy beaches on the Gulf Coast to the theme parks of Orlando; the Art Deco buildings of Miami’s South Beach to the relaxed, laid-back atmosphere of the Keys and the natural beauty of the Everglades, you’re sure to find something to please the whole family. Kids and big kids alike will feel the magic at Walt Disney World Resort.
