When choosing where to holiday, families are spoilt for choice. However, there’s one specific resort that has been making a solid impression on families lately: Atmosphere Kanifushi in the Maldives. We thought we’d show you why this resort, which sits on a stretch of stand-alone beach framing a lagoon, has been getting such rave reviews.
The Maldives may be the best part of 6,000 miles away from the UK, but that doesn’t mean getting to Atmosphere Kanifushi has to be difficult.
British Airways – which describes the Maldives as “possibly the most beautiful place on earth” - operates return flights direct to Malé from London Gatwick three times a week.
The resort’s friendly airport representatives will be waiting to meet you at arrivals and from there, it’s only a half-hour sea plane transfer across the water to the beautiful turquoise lagoon of Atmosphere Kanifushi Maldives. The five-hour time difference means barely any jet-lag, too.
Accommodation at Atmosphere Kanifushi comes in many shapes and sizes and out of the 132 detached villas and suites, there’s accommodation to suit every kind of family.
Ideal for families with children, the Sunset Family Villas consist of two interconnecting beach villas - some of the largest entry-level beachfront villas in the Maldives - with separate outdoor access exclusively designed for guests holidaying with families. These villas are also positioned close to the kids club, as well as the sports complex and main restaurant.
Sunset Junior Suites offer larger living spaces and open-air bathrooms, while the Sunset Pool Villas build on those suites by adding more privacy and exclusivity. Every villa has direct access to the pristine white beach and the beautiful turquoise lagoon beyond, just few metres in front of their large, open-air veranda.
Atmosphere Kanifushi’s Kids Club lays on a fun-packed schedule of adventurous and learning experiences every day from 9am until 9pm. Activities range from the high-octane (banana boat ride, dodgeball, mini Olympics, Maldivian cultural dance and mini discos) to the crafty (sand art, coconut painting and pizza making).
Outside of the busy kids programme, there’s a large 50-metre pool that overlooks the crystal-clear Indian Ocean. The resort’s food outlets cater to kids with pizza, fish and chips, fried chicken, burger and smoothies, while babysitting services are available at a charge for children below four years.
While the kids are off having fun, mum and dad can busy themselves in the spa, which boasts a spacious relaxation lounge, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and six double treatment rooms - all amidst lush landscaped gardens and views of the eastern coast of the island.
In contrast, adults can work up a sweat at The Clubhouse sports and recreation centre, with a programme comprising yoga, pilates, cross fit, aqua aerobics, volley ball, water polo, tennis boot camp and much more.
Watersports such as windsurfing, sailing, snorkelling, canoeing and paddleboarding are all possible here, as well as diving due to the several popular dive sites within close proximity to the resort’s PADI-licensed dive centre. There are also many uncharted areas that the dive team are continuously exploring.
As with every atoll in the Maldives, Lhaviyani Atoll has its own unique variety of marine inhabitants and reef formations. Platinum Plus guests can take advantage of daily snorkelling excursions with shuttles every morning and afternoon.
Families can boost their break at Atmosphere Kanifushi by stepping up to the exclusive premium all-inclusive Platinum Plus meal plan.
Platinum Plus elevates the regular all-inclusive experience to a completely new level with sumptuous buffets and delectable international cuisine, a selection of premium brands of spirits and wines from around the world, a virtually endless variety of exotic cocktails and an array of activities and excursions.
Atmosphere Kanifushi boasts a fantastic variety of bars and restaurants. There’s The Liquid – one of the most favoured locations on the island – the theatrical Teppanyaki Grill, The Spice, which serves quality world cuisine throughout the day and Just Veg, which appeared in Destinology’s list of top 10 restaurants in the Maldives.
We’ve focused on Atmosphere Kanifushi’s strong family appeal so far, but the resort is also a great choice for newlyweds - it appeared in Daily Telegraph’s top 10 most romantic resorts in the Maldives and was named one of the Maldives’ top ten luxury honeymoon villas by Vacation Media US for its amazing sunset pool villas.
