Thank you for visiting my page. I’m Kate Self and I’m a Travel Counsellor based in Winchester, Hampshire. I’ve worked in the travel industry for over 14 years, starting out as an agent in a leading high street travel agency before joining Travel Counsellors.
I’ve been fortunate to visit many countries including: Australia, South Africa, North America, Canada, Jamaica, St Lucia, the Dominican Republic, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo, Thailand, plus a host of destinations in Europe and closer to home. This travel experience enables me to offer you a world of personal knowledge and recommendations.
Being located close to Southampton, I’ve travelled by cruise ship to breath-taking destinations. I regularly take advantage of ship visits, so I can offer my clients considering cruise holidays first-hand knowledge of the ships and their itineraries.
All countries have their own history, diversity and culture which is what makes travel so enriching. Each trip becomes a personal discovery. Some of my most memorable experiences include walking hand-to-trunk with elephants in South Africa, cuddling koalas in Australia, being eye-to-eye with an orangutan in Borneo and standing at the foot of a glacier in the Norwegian Fjords.
Not only am I passionate about my job, I’m dedicated to it. I enjoy doing the research to give my clients competitive options with reliable suppliers coupled with a bespoke personal service. You’re my number one priority, so if you hit a snag on your travels or have a holiday hiccup, I’m on standby to smooth the way and get your vacation back on track.
I’m 100% independent with access to hundreds of suppliers and many cruise liners, so whether you’re planning a long-haul holiday, honeymoon, ocean cruise, a winter ski trip, a short UK break or a relaxing ‘get-away-from-it-all’ beach vacation; I’m here to help you find the holiday that’s tailored to your needs. Once you’ve chosen your destination, I plan and make all the arrangements, so you don’t have to.
What’s important to me is finding you the holiday of your dreams and taking the stress and time out of the whole experience. We can meet when it’s convenient for you and there’s no consultation fee. Your holiday is fully-protected against supplier failure by ATOL and the Travel Counsellors Financial Trust.
So why not give me a call and turn your travel dreams into a reality?
Whatever your holiday needs I'm here to help you, so please either fill in and send the form below or simply give me a call and I can get things started for you:-

Kate checked out our ideas for a last minute booking ski holiday and came back with dates that matched ours and a price that fitted our budget. All tickets and passes arrived a couple of days later, so we are ready to go. As usual with Kate, a great and efficient service, with a cheerful smile. Kate was brilliant as always. This is the fourth time we have booked with her. On this occasion I trawled through the internet to find our holiday but could not find the perfect location despite wasting hours. I was not sure an all inclusive holiday was something Kate would book. In the end I contacted Kate with my all inclusive holiday wish list and within the hour she came back with the perfect holiday. Such a superstar! I have referred her recently to a friend who booked a tour of Australia with her and she was also very impressed.

Excellent and friendly advice and prompt, efficient service. Kate goes beyond the call of duty in sorting items and trips for us which are not easy with my husband being full time in a wheelchair. Our cruise with Cunard suited us perfectly especially with the knowledge Kate provided us with pre-sailing re ports. Thank you!

Just wanted to say a huge thank you for all your hard work organising our family holiday of a lifetime to Costa Rica. We had the most incredible time, and loved the hotels and excursions. We felt completely happy that you’d sorted everything out and that we had nothing to worry about - although knowing you were there to contact if we needed to was very reassuring, being halfway across the world with our kids! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend your services (and have already done so!) and honestly feel that our holiday was made extra special thanks to you.

Uniworld, a boutique river cruise line with a focus on a luxury experience really made special by the crew onboard. With just 120 passengers onboard and a very social atmosphere, my few days sailing from Avignon to Arles and Viviers in France gave me an amazing opportunity to experience the ship, luxury hospitality, and included walking tours with a fun crowd of people. Staying in a category two cabin with French balcony, the bed was extremely comfortable and the L'Occitane toiletries added to the experience. The cabin was spacious, comfortable and with plenty of storage space. Little touches like a stash...

I'd always wanted to explore more of Canada, the real Canada outside of the cities that everyone has heard of and being part of the Canada Specialist program recently gave me just that opportunity. 8 of us flew out to Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island via Halifax with Air Canada. A very comfortable international flight in business class with great food and service and then on to a small 18 seater plane where the pilot loaded the luggage, gave the safety announcement and then climbed in the cockpit and flew the plane! Our home for 3 nights was the lovely Great George...

The FUN theme certainly ran throughout our time onboard the world most popular cruiseline’s ship Carnival Dream! We were embarked in New Orleans and were allocated and outside cabin on deck 2. The cabin was a great size with a picture window and a bathroom with a toilet, shower and sink and a separate room with a bath and sink. There was plenty of storage for luggage and a tv which you could switch to cameras looking out from the front of the ship or over the pool. There was also a room service menu with a good choice of...

On the 18th March I met with my fellow TC’s, Luke from Carnival Cruises and Neil from the Louisiana Tourist Board for our flight from London Heathrow via Atlanta to Lafayette with Delta Airlines. On landing in Lafayette late that evening, we spent the night at the Homewood Suites by Hilton which were lovely suites with a separate lounge and bedroom. The next morning, we went for breakfast at a fabulous little local café serving local Boudin and Biscuit (Sausage and scone) before heading off to Champagnes at Lake Martin for a swamp tour. The swamp tour was fantastic. Unlike many...

My trip to Gran Canaria blew my expectations of a bucket and spade destination apart on my five day visit in June 2015 as part of a tourist board sponsored Travel Counsellors trip. We flew with Norwegian Airlines from London Gatwick, with easy self check-in and free wifi onboard. The legroom was comfortable and the crew were polite whilst offering food and drink for purchase onboard. On arrival, we transferred to the Seaside Palm Beach Hotel, a member of Design Hotels which was to be to be our base for the next four nights. The hotel is fairly contemporary in design and...

I'd never been to Jersey before. I guess I saw it as a more mature person’s holiday, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The beaches are stunning, the weather a couple of degrees warmer than mainland UK, the food amazing (especially the seafood), the nightlife vibrant and only 30 to 55 mins away by air from the UK depending on where you are based or an easy ferry journey from Weymouth or Poole if you're not a fan of flying. We left Southampton airport on a sunny Friday morning, flying with Flybe on the 30 minute travelling time. Met at...

We departed London Gatwick flying with Virgin Atlantic, having pre-purchased emergency exit rows. We had been allocated seats in the upstairs of the aircraft which was fantastic. Sitting behind Premium Economy at the front of only a few rows of economy, it was a very pleasant and quiet journey into Orlando International. We decided to stay on International Drive (I-Drive) close to Wet N Wild and Universal Studios. I-Drive is such a good place to base yourself which an abundance of eateries with coupons galore to make eating out affordable, it's also so easy to get around using the I-Ride Trollies...

Fred Olsen is a cruise line that has been around for much longer than I had thought. The company has history going back as far as 1848 when a young shipmaster called Fredrik Christian Olsen entered ship-owning on his own account. Today, Fred Olsen has four ships. The Balmoral, Boudicca, Black Watch and Braemar. We flew from London to Gdansk via Copenhagen with SAS who offered a comfortable flight with complimentary tea and coffee and food and other drinks available for purchase on-board. On arrival into Gdansk, we transferred to the Hotel Gdansk located on the edge of the main...

In June 2013, I was lucky enough to join the Grand Cayman Department of Tourism on an educational trip to their fabulous islands in the British West Indies in the Caribbean. We flew with British Airways in economy from Terminal 5 at London Heathrow via the Bahamas and the total journey time was about 11.5 hours including a one hour touchdown in Nassau to let passengers on and off. The aircraft had seat back TV’s and good leg room. The food was nice and the crew professional. On arrival into Owen Roberts International Airport, we were met by the local representatives of...

My holiday to Borneo began with a 12 hour flight with Malaysia Airlines from London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur where I spent one night before continuing for a further 2.5 hour flight to Kota Kinabalu, the gateway to Sabah in Northern Borneo. The flights were very comfortable with an economy seat pitch of 34 inches and the food and service was excellent. I spent the first five nights at the Shangri La Tanjung Aru which was a 10 minute drive from Kota Kinabalu International Airport. On arrival at the hotel, I was met by a member of reception and given a...

We boarded Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas in Stockholm after flying from London Heathrow with British Airways and than transferred to the Ship by RCCL's ground transport. The view of this 2435 passenger capacity cruise ship, docked in Stockholm’s port on the outskirts of town was a stunning sight and after checking in and dropping of our bags for the porters to take to our cabin, we made our way up the gangway being greeted by crew, had our photo taken for when we disembark and embark the ship at the different ports of call and were then escorted to...

I flew out of London Heathrow with Malaysia Airlines after starting my holiday experience in the Servis Air Lounge in terminal three; the only way to relax when at an airport. I arrived into Melbourne airport the following evening, after a very pleasant flight. The next day after a good nights sleep, we ventured off into Melbourne city, where we went to the Old Melbourne Gaol, where the famous Ned Kelly was hung. We walked all round the Gaol, looking at the cells and the death masks of some of the prisoners, and then watched Wendi Huggins and Heath Miller in the...

On Friday 18th July 2008, I boarded a Virgin Atlantic flight from London Gatwick to Hewanorra Airport in St Lucia. After a comfortable 8 hour flight, I arrived to a beautiful and sunny St Lucia. I picked up a transfer for the one and a half hour transfer through the up and down, winding St Lucian countryside to the Almond Morgan Bay Resort, close to the famous Rodney Bay. We arrived on the first day of the St Lucia Carnival, so there was a real party atmosphere which was great. We took a taxi to the Belouis Cricket Ground to watch...

I went to Cape Town and along the famous Garden Route as part of a training academy where I got to meet suppliers and operators from all over South Africa, not just Cape Town. We flew direct with South African Airways, and on arrival we were whisked off to the Newlands Stadium to watch South Africa v France in a rugby match. The stadium holds over 60,000 spectators and the atmosphere was electric, although South Africa lost. The next day we took a boat trip over to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was held as a political prisoner. We got the most...
