Girls Long Weekend in Barbados March

You may think it’s a mad idea but you are very wrong! You'd actually be mad not to try this !

Barbados is one of my favourite destinations. It has so much to offer - fabulous weather pretty much most of the year, although traditionally it’s a great winter sun destination. As it’s tropical the weather is great all year round and those tropical showers are bearable in the out of peak times.

It's a great family destination but for this blog I'm going to focus on why you need to think about Barbados instead of New York next time you are planning a long weekend with friends or a partner.

So nine ladies - let's call us Barbies for convenience and so our identity remains secret - arranged child-care from Thursday to Saturday morning (no easy task - the lists of activities and jobs for other halves were bigger than our suitcases). We headed off from Gatwick and landed early afternoon on Thursday to 30 degree heat, and watched the sunset with sundowners. We chose to rent a luxury villa (ask me details as more affordable than you'd think) that came with a chef, butler and maids that took care of our every need for the next few days. We ate in that night and drank just a small quota of our duty free. Past experience has taught us that going out the first night is not wise, as the time difference is a pain and you do need to reserve your energy for other evenings.

Our villa was located in West Morlands Golf Course with a panoramic view of the sea, sunsets and St James below. Every morning we walked down to the beach and back up the long hill knowing that would be the exercise for the day, and we needed it in order to counter the excesses ahead!

We had an action packed few days and managed to get in the best itinerary as inside information was key :

Friday night we had dinner at Cincin by the Sea and watched the amazing live band Kevan Sahai singing his mix of songs from Stereophonics to Rod Stewart, our quiet evening was anything but that, as the cocktails kicked in....

Saturday after a leisurely shop and mooch in Holetown, we hired a luxury catamaran and sailed around the island drinking rum punches, swimming, finding turtles and then partying on the deck!

Sunday we had a late brunch at the new Cliff Beach Bar followed by more drinks at Mullens Beach Bar and then on to the OneloveBar for some street karaoke.

Monday was the lazy hangover day and we had early dinner at Lone Star before the 20:15 flight home!

I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun was had, the locals are so friendly, the restaurants rival those in London, the shopping is tax free, Lime Grove has a perfect selection of the designers, bars, more restaurants than you could ever need for a quick weekend. And the sun, sea and sand - you can't possibly come back anything but re-energised!
