Great Malvern and Surrounding Area

With a new grandson in the family, I decided that after spending as much time with him as I could we would make a weekend of it and revisit one of the places that I used to go to as a child - Great Malvern.

I had a great Aunt we used to visit here when I was a child and it was a lovely time to go back and look around and see the changes!

We stayed at the Abbey Hotel in Malvern and it was a good 4-star hotel - great attentive staff and courteous although the bedrooms were a little dated. The location was great, right in the centre of the town and next to the museum.

We arrived nice and early, so we could have a look around and see what had changed. It's amazing what you remember from when you were a child and how things always appeared bigger then. The old winter gardens outside pool had gone and had been replaced by an indoor pool but the gardens had hardly changed. It was lovely to walk through the garden and see the bandstand was still there.

We then wandered around the old town and went to the bottom of the entrance to the hills- famous for its water and walks.

After a visit to my old aunt's house which hadn't changed much, we then decided to drive back through Ledbury and stopped off for lunch at a lovely old town with independent shops.

A longer route back home took us through the Wye Valley, a beautiful drive through valleys and winding roads. We then stopped off at Tintern Abbey for an ice cream before making our way home. It made me realize that there are so many beautiful places that I want to see in this country as well as the rest of the world!
