Family Christmas in a Derbyshire Cottage

Lucy Morgans on 20 December 2008
Having never been away at Christmas as a complete family, I have to admit that we did feel a little bit anxious about this venture! Our criteria of wanting the whole family to be together for Christmas 2008, (7 adults and 5 young children in total) meant that hiring a holiday cottage seemed the perfect solution. However, even the catering for persons with different dietary requirements went smoothly.

“Woodside” is a beautiful 4 star family home, with plenty of character, located in a quiet area of the Derbyshire Hills in Matlock. It had been the family home of the owner for the past 40 years before recently becoming a holiday let and is available for hire all year round, and perfect for family reunions or long weekends with friends.

Jill, the house-keeper was there to warmly welcome and show us around. In the dining room, with its grand table seating 12 and open fireplace with logs provided, there was a lovely Christmas Tree greeting us. The large kitchen has plenty of workspace, is well equipped, and there is an additional table with chairs here too. “Woodside” has two separate seating areas each having a TV, (great to dissolve those TV disputes), sofas and chairs.

There are three double bedrooms and three twin bedrooms all with very comfortable beds sleeping a maximum of twelve people. The rooms are extremely bright and airy, and the décor is modern and fresh looking.

All the family soon settled in and fell in love with what Woodside offered us for our Christmas away – homely comfort with warmth and plenty of hot water too. We even arranged in advance for Tesco to deliver our shopping on our arrival weekend in readiness for our Christmas break.

To ensure no-one was disappointed, Santa remembered that we weren’t ‘at home’ and managed to get all our presents down the chimney here, and to fill the children’s stockings that they had hung by the fireplace!

“Woodside” is within walking distance of delightful Matlock. Here you will find everything that you might need, plenty of shops to potter round, swimming baths, a nice park, and even a Sainsbury’s for anything that you forgot to get Tesco to bring! It is Ideally situated for Gulliver’s Kingdom (10 minutes drive), Matlock Bath, Abraham Heights, fabulous walking, steam trains etc. The list is endless and you will find plenty for all the family to do here whatever the season or occasion.

Contact me for more details of this cottage which comes highly recommended not only by myself but others who have previously stayed and completed the Visitor’s Book.

I am able to offer this cottage for week long hires, or long weekends, together with others that are on our books!

Highly Recommended.
