Relaxing holiday in May

I have recently returned from a fabulous holiday on the beautiful island of Kefalonia, which is in the Ionian Sea, west of mainland Greece.

We hired a car at the airport. The roads are fairly easy to navigate, and it helped us make the most of the holiday, seeing more of the island. We drove through the mountains, in the middle of the island, on the twisting roads, explored the rugged coast line and beautiful beaches.

We visited the magnificent Melissani Cave. It is a lacustrine cave of unique beauty. The sunken lake inside is the most amazing aqua blue.

One day we drove over to the multi awarded and renown Myrtos Beach. Had to be done! It is backed by steep limestone cliffs. The view from the top is amazing, and the drive down is spectacular, and a bit scary!

In Agia Efimia, we rented a small boat for the day to visit the picturesque coves near Agia Efimia that can’t be accessed by road. A great day out. Captain for a day!

Our hotel, the Kefalonia Bay Palace, was just outside the very picturesque village of Agia Efimia, on the hill, with stunning views. Agia Efimia is centred around a small harbour, on Kefalonia’s east coast. There is a good selection of restaurants, taverna and bars in the village and a few shops.

I can highly recommend Kefalonia as a holiday destination.
