Before the release of the 2019 Free Disney Dining offer, I wanted to share my experience at one of my favourite Disney restaurants – Donald’s Dining Safari at Tusker House Restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Despite having worked for Disney parks and being a constant visitor to parks around the world, I’ve never been a massive fan of character dining. I was recommended to try Tuskers by a cast member and I’m glad I listened to them.

Tusker House Restaurant offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. We took a late lunch after a busy morning around Disney’s Animal Kingdom. When we arrived, I was getting hungry and couldn’t wait to start. The décor is as you’d expect from Disney - very well themed. My mum is gluten free and when making our reservation, I made sure to inform them. When we arrived, they had this noted on our reservation and once seated, one of the chefs took her around the buffet explaining what she could eat and making recommendations based upon her tastes.

There were around four characters walking around the restaurant. There’s no need to queue up to meet them, they’ll come around to your table. I would recommend timing your visits to the buffet and taking note of how far away the characters are. The character interactions were amazing with each one spending quality time with us. Each character is dressed in a safari style outfit.

On to the food. Donald’s Dining Safari at Tusker House Restaurant is a buffet serving a range of food including some healthy dishes that make a nice change from chicken nuggets. We enjoyed peri peri whole salmon, Basmati rice and curried chicken, hummus and some tasty desserts. My absolute favourite thing to eat was the pork. The chef carves off some of the most gorgeous pork I’ve ever tasted.

Donald’s Dining Safari at Tusker House Restaurant is part of the Disney Dining Plan and would require one table service meal credit. If you’re not on the Disney Dining Plan or have a plan which doesn’t include table service credit, the current prices for dinner are $45 for adults and $27 for under 9’s.

The queues can get be long and I would recommend reserving. One of the amazing extra benefits of booking with Martin Ross – Travel Counsellor is a free holiday planning service helping you make the most of your time in Orlando.
