Cancun

I flew out to Cancun on 22nd April with Thomsonfly for a one week. First of all I was very apprehensive about flying with a charter airline for 10hrs. However as soon as we boarded the aircraft my mind was put at rest of how much legroom there was and leather seats too. We were also provided with a complimentary snuggle pack which contained a blanket, neck pillow and an eye mask.

We stayed at the Marriott Casamagna which is on the Cancun Hotel Zone. It was graced by stunning views of the clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean and perfect white sand. On arrival to the hotel the reception staff were very welcoming and could not do enough for us. The reception area was marbled floors, high ceilings and a strong scent of fresh flowers. Our first impressions were ‘wow’.

We were booked into a premium ocean view room which was spacious, clean, had a large flat screen TV and patio doors which opened up onto our balcony. We were astounded by the ‘perfect idyllic’ view we had. All you could hear from your hotel room was the crashing of waves. I would highly recommend paying extra to upgrade to a premium ocean view room.

The hotel itself had a wide choice of restaurants with Japanese, Thai, Argentinean, American, and is also adjoined to the JW Marriott hotel so you can use their facilities too.

Within the hotel there is also a travel agency where we booked a couple of excursions.

The first excursion we went on was a day trip to Xel-Ha which is about 1hrs 45 mins from Cancun. Xel-ha is a unique and beautiful natural park. Here we swam with the dolphins which was just an amazing and unreal experience and I would highly recommend this activity to anyone. Also it was worth the money as we got to be in the water with the dolphins for 45 minutes.

The natural park is an ‘all inclusive’ park whereby all the activities apart from the dolphin swim are included as well as food, snacks, drinks (alcoholic too) and ice creams all day long on an unlimited basis. There is a choice of activities varying from snorkelling (equipment provided), kayaks, inner tubes, bikes, cliff jumps are some to name. If you are travelling with children this is an ideal day out as well.

The other excursion we went on was the ‘Jungle Tour’ - this was great fun. You get to have your own 2 seater mini boat which is very similar to a jet ski and you drive through the lagoon area until you come out into the Caribbean Sea where the boats are tied up and you get the opportunity to snorkel on one of the reefs for 45 minutes. Then return back through the lagoon and back to where you started.

The weather was perfect every day whilst in Cancun. I would recommend Cancun as a winter or summer destination as there is so much to do for everyone whether it is a couple or a family.
