Very polite and efficient. Nick listened to what we wanted from the cruise. My wife suffers from MS which he took into account when giving us the options. He also arranged assisted travel, private transfers. Also a list of excursions both in groups or just my wife and myself. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Nick was patient, attentive, listened to what I wanted from my weekend away. The time, effort he put into this was second to none and even the changes I made were never too much trouble. I would highly recommend him to plan and arrange any future trips. He also left me feeling that if anything did go wrong he really was just a phone call away.

This blog is through my own eyes as a full-time wheelchair user and is my own opinions. Queen Mary 2 has a passenger capacity of 2,691 guests and 1,292 crew. She was named by Queen Elizabeth II in 2004 and is the largest ocean liner ever build, intended for routine crossings of the Atlantic Ocean. As of 2019, Queen Mary 2 is the only passenger ship operating as an ocean liner. Having been designed as an ocean liner, she required 40% more steel than a standard cruise ship. Some of Queen Mary 2’s facilities include 15 restaurants and bars, five swimming...

BOARDING - Celebrity have a facial recognition embarkation service. Before boarding you download the Celebrity App and complete your passport details etc and upload a photograph ready for the facial recognition. When you walk into the embarkation area there are screens that are picking up your facial details and checking you in. You literally then proceed through to the ship. Your stateroom cards are outside your stateroom ready for you to check in to your room and start your holiday. I was given great support from the staff who were readily available to help my wife...

THE EXTRAORDINARY REQUEST I was promoting at a local company in their staff canteen last September when I was approached by one of their members of staff. “Can you create me a trip to see a rocket launch in Kazakhstan?”, he asked. “Of course!”, I replied. THE INITIAL REQUEST That night his email request dropped in to my inbox with the following request: “Solo traveller to go to see the planned Rocket Launch on 5th April 2019 at Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. I want to attend the press conference with the astronauts at the Cosmodrome. I would like to travel via...

My 24 hour experience on board MSC Bellissima This blog is through my own eyes as a full-time wheelchair user. (They are my opinions). A BIT ABOUT HER She has a passenger capacity of 4,500. She will spend her maiden cruise season in the Mediterranean, before re-positioning to the Persian Gulf, cruising roundtrip from Dubai for the 2019/2020 winter cruise season. My first impression - as soon as I stepped aboard, I could sense that this was a cruise line that recognised the need to put the passenger immediately at ease with fantastic service and comfortable furnishings. The captain was visible and happy to stop and chat to all. The ship was decked up for Christmas and we were greeted by a wonderful choir in the stunning atrium. The Cabins - I was shown around several cabins and was pleasantly surprised to find that on certain cabins that are not classed as accessible, I could access the room and get into the...

Each island has something different: MAUI - This island has the reputation of having the most gorgeous beaches. Climb Mount Haleakala and watch the stunning sunrise or watch the day end as the sun disappears into the horizon. Also, there is an opportunity to follow the self-drive route up the coast to Hana. Once arriving at Hana, why not discover the amazing collection of rock formations in Maui’s Ka’eleku Caverns which is located between the Hana Rainforest. Or maybe, you prefer a swim off the coast amongst the green sea turtles. KAUAI - Amazing scenery here, with spectacular plunging waterfalls and green...

The following advice and guidance are taken from recent US Department of Homeland Security publications. The aim is to inform users of the risks associated with personal use of mobile devices. Your smartphone, tablet or other device is a fully-fledged computer. It is susceptible to risks inherent in online transactions. When shopping, banking, or sharing personal information online, take the same precautions with your smart phone or other device that you do with your personal computer — and then some. The mobile nature of these devices means that you should also take precautions for the physical security of your device and...

I often get asked what the most unique travel package I have been asked to create. So, I thought I would share it with you. The Customer I was asked by a gentleman in his mid-20’s if I could create him a tour to see a rocket launch at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Baikonur Cosmodrome is the world's first and largest operational space launch facility. It was obvious from talking to him that he had researched the experience as had all the information of when the next launch was and what he wanted to do during his trip. This was...

Allow me to help you decide which is best suited to your needs. The main difference is that a tour operator is responsible for operating and providing your holiday/travel plans through the contracting, booking and packaging together of the various components of your tour such as your hotel, transportation, meals, guides, optional tours and sometimes flight. Whereas, the travel agent sells you the readymade package on your chosen destination. Thus, booking through a tour operator gives you the opportunity to make your plans bespoke to you alone. ME AS YOUR TOUR OPERATOR I am part of Travel Counsellors and create bespoke holidays/travel...

Ever considered an 'Inaugural Cruise?' Would you like to be one of the first to sail on MSC's Grandiosa departing 10 November 2019 for 10 nights sailing out of Hamburg? It is fun to monitor the build of your planned inaugural ship cruise through sites such as YouTube, knowing that you will be one of the first passengers onboard and the first passenger in your cabin. There is nothing like the smell and feel of a brand-new ship. I have been lucky to have been on a few inaugural events whilst a ship has been docked in port waiting to be...

Early October 2018 myself and my wife Angela left Southampton Cruise Terminal aboard P&O’s Ventura Cruise Ship. It was a mini cruise of 3 nights going to Belgium and then back to Southampton. PARKING AND ACCESSING THE SHIP AT THE PORT We arrived at the port by our own car where we had arranged ‘meet and greet’ car parking. We pulled up outside the terminal entrance, our bags were unloaded and taken off to be boarded by the concierge and we headed into the terminal to check in. We boarded the ship at 12 midday and headed straight to the...

What a true privilege to be given the opportunity to attend the overnight launch party of this beautiful ship. She arrived in Southampton on 29th April 2013 from her birth place of Rotterdam. To wake that morning and look out of my hotel room opposite the pier to see her colourful bow was a sight to behold. She is huge with capabilities of holding up to 4000 passengers and could be seen for miles. ACCESSIBILITY ABOARD THE SHIP I could experience most areas of this ship. Due to being paraplegic I couldn’t look around the available exuberance of her...

My thoughts and experiences as a wheelchair user. The gold and brown of the atrium instantly relaxes you enabling you into instant cruise mode. Moving round to the lifts all senses resume back into fully alert mode whilst the lesser able of us try to keep an eye out for the next available carriage. The design requires the 180-degree visual sense of an owl. They are in the formation of a circle around you and throw in the added obstacle of the plush carpet with the stitched in rug, it takes some slick moves to beat the rapidly closing door. The accessible...

II get asked a lot about Hawaii. I have blogged on the resort I attended on Big Island on an earlier blog called '3 Centre Holiday in the USA'. Here are a few of my personal photos from my stay. For me the highlight will always be the sight of the 'Milky Way' due to the lack of light pollution and being able to lie in a hammock on the edge of the cliff within in the resort to take in this view. My wife's highlight was being able to get up close with the natural wildlife within the lagoon that snaked...

I have cruised numerous times and want to share with you my experience of being onboard Norwegian Jade and two highlights I found on the ports that I visited at the time. The Norwegian Jade was launched in 2006, however even though she is over 10 years old she was an amazing ship with a lot to offer. (it was refurbished in 2017 which is after my trip on board). Even when compared to the mega ships produced in the recent years. There is plenty to keep young and old entertained and is of a passenger size that gives...

I visited Copenhagen as a port visit on a Christmas cruise two years ago. I just wanted to share with you the amazing spectacle that is put on every year in their Tivoli Gardens which is in the centre of the city. It is easy to access from the port with many options available. One being the hop on/hop off bus (where would I be without the hop on hop off bus!) At Christmastime Tivoli Gardens is transformed into a Winter Wonderland experience. I found it like 'stepping back in time'. Here are a few pictures to share with...

I embarked on a seven night Norwegian Fjord Cruise from Southampton port on Princess Cruises. It was a very relaxing trip with the most amazing views. We had an initial day at sea before disembarking in Bergen. Bergen is a stunning port with lovely views of the mountains from the very busy fishing market port. For an unbeatable view of the city, ride the 26-degree Fløibanen funicular (cable car) to the top of Mt Fløyen (320m), with departures every 15 minutes. This had great wheelchair access. Our next port was Olden. This is a quiet location which for us was...

What an amazing place to holiday. There really is something for everyone in this city. Whether it be a beach, culture or pure relaxing luxury this resort is for you. It is a place to party or a place to enjoy with the family. It really does have it all. I stayed here on a city break with my wife. We stayed on the outskirts of the city but with the metro system it was easy to get into the centre of the city with us emerging up through the pavement close to Las Ramblas. When I say emerging up through...

I always get asked the question "what is your favourite holiday destination?" For me it is Fuerteventura. Why, you may ask. Well it just feels right! And that is my best answer! I have been to the resort of Caleta de Fuste three times now and each time I have hired a car (with hand controls!) and toured the island. It is a care free experience to drive on this island as the roads are relatively quiet and it’s easy to navigate to the differing resorts. The island is also of a size that you can tour the whole place within...

Accessible/Inclusive Travel – Why booking with me will be different Travel has always been a passion for me, having travelled worldwide from a young age. After my accident, which left me reliant on a wheelchair from the age of 21 years, I continued to travel the world independently. However, though I was confident enough to continue to travel, I found that one of my biggest problems was trying to get travel agents to understand that my set of problems are unique to me. They would still treat me as a ‘disabled traveller’ rather than Nick Markham a traveller with...

I celebrated my 10th wedding anniversary staying at the 5* Tivoli Hotel at Vilamoura Marina in Portugal. Vilamoura is a destination we had visited three times previously for wedding anniversaries and had set our sights on staying at the Tivoli Hotel to mark our 10th anniversary several years ago as we had always admired its location on the marina. We were not disappointed! We were greeted on arrival by the concierge who collected our bags from the taxi and took them to our rooms whilst we enjoyed a welcome drink in reception. Our room was on the 8th floor and gave...

I set off alone for this journey to Iceland as it was basically a trip that was on my bucket list. I flew out of Luton with all my fellow passengers on the same 15-hour round tour of Iceland. We landed at the main airport Keflavik with our passports having already been processed on board, so we simply landed and walked out of the airport and on to our coaches with our first stop being whale watching. It was the month of March and I cannot put into words just how cold I was on that boat! My advice for Iceland...

This is a question I get asked a lot along with several others by people considering a cruise, so here is a few answers to those common questions. Will I get seasick? I do not know but there are many over the counter remedies you can buy to help with this. You can feel the motion of the ship moving when at sea, but with the stabilisers these huge ships have it cuts down on the motion you are experiencing. Also, there is less movement in the middle of a ship so if this is a concern, consider a room...

I'd never been to the Balearics, but my wife assured me they were beautiful. She was not wrong. Menorca is stunning and great for wheelchair users. We stayed on the south west coast in the modern resort of Cala'n Bosch. A marina is at the centre of everything in the evenings for leisurely times listening to music and sampling the many restaurants. A sandy beach, right around the corner, meets all your sun bathing needs in the daytime. It was accessible by me to get into the sea in my wheelchair as it has hard rock areas that...

It was a sunny warm morning as my wife and I cruised slowly into the port of Piraeus (ATHENS). The captain manoeuvred the ship to the dock side and the foot bridges were fastened down. We headed off from the top deck down to the disembarkation deck and due to being in a wheelchair we did not have to queue as you always get priority disembarkation. We left the ship heading to the cruise terminal and not knowing which way to go we followed the people walking towards the tour buses, lots were lined up for those who had pre-booked...

What an experience to share with you all. My wife and I were met at the door by the concierge who then escorted us via the lift into the hotel's receptions area. We were allocated a further concierge who showed us to our room – wow! What a view we were met with! Floor to ceiling windows with views of The Thames and surrounding famous landmarks…and so high up! The room was luxurious in every way you can imagine. The service was excellent. We then ventured up higher to the pool area where we experienced the infinity pool looking out over London....

I want to share with you a trip I have been on myself and show how it gave me a completely contrasting experience throughout the journey. I initially set off to Las Vegas staying at the amazing Bellagio Hotel. Arriving in the afternoon local time my wife and I were initially jet lagged so decided to have a quick sleep, which became a long eight hours sleep with us waking up at midnight raring to go! We headed off and saw Las Vegas by night, returning at 6am for our cocktail breakfast before retiring to bed. We then next woke up again...

VENICE When you cruise into this amazing port you can near enough hold your hand out and touch the amazing buildings. After disembarking the ship you can be at the water bus station within 15 minutes and here you can jump on a water bus or a water taxi and choose where you want to go. Visit St Mark’s Square or why not have a pizza in one of the many café bars or just wander through the little side streets and watch the gondolas go by. DUBROVNIK After disembarking the ship, you must visit the old town. You are able to...

A day visit from our cruise - August 2015 After disembarking the ship, you must visit the old town. You are able to walk or push to the old town within approx. 20 minutes although there are a couple of slight hills. We decided to get a taxi as you can hire them for approx. 50 Euros for an hours guided tour. (We did negotiate and got him down to 40 Euros, but he was that good we gave him 50 Euros anyway!) This was well worth it as we had our own personal tour guide. The taxi drove us up...
