Chicago Educational

A group of Travel Counsellors and I visited Chicago on an educational visit in February. Despite the bitterly cold weather, it was a wonderful city break and a worthy alternative to New York. Situated on the shores of Lake Michigan, this city is crammed with things to do, yet the atmosphere is not frantic or claustrophobic.

The impressive architecture is best appreciated from a trolley tour, a 2 hour hop-on, hop-off bus tour around the main city areas. Or between May and November you can enjoy a tour along the river.

The best vantage point to see the many sights has to be the Sears Tower; the second tallest building in the world, where you must visit the Skydeck on the 99th floor! Or to take in the views of the city and across the lake at a more leisurely pace, enjoy a dinner in the Signature Room at the John Hancock Centre.

For family entertainment, Navy Pier has it all. Home to the IMAX theatre and Chicago Children’s Museum, it also boasts a 150 feet high Ferris Wheel!

The Magnificent Mile is the place to shop and the name says it all. Bloomingdales, Macy’s, Tiffany and NikeLand; the shops and the many bargains I brought home were truly magnificent!

If you prefer the arts, this city has music, theatre and museums. In fact, this city has it all!
