Being a member of the Travel Counsellors family of expert travel organisers is a privilege - a much valued position that draws on personal knowledge and insight, and exists to provide a service which, in an otherwise virtual and impersonal world of holiday and travel options, relies still, on a caring human touch.

Whatever your additional access, mobility, sensory or cognitive requirements might be... and wherever in the world you wish to go.

We called Richard as we wanted a holiday arranging at short notice. We knew that we wanted to go to the Maldives and that we wanted peace and quiet. It took Richard just hours to research the area and he came up with the most beautiful place imaginable - Kuredu Island Resort. He also suggested that we stopped over in Dubai just for the experience, an idea that we loved. All of the arrangements were made in just a few days and one week later we were flying off to paradise! We would strongly recommend Richard to anyone looking for the perfect holiday. His service, friendliness and efficiency are second to none. I can tell you from my own experiences that you will NEVER receive the kind of service that Richard provides from the High Street travel agencies .

It is the details that are important and lift the service Richard provides above those of many travel agents. He has taken the time to understand my requirements and puts enormous efforts into meeting them. As a full time wheelchair user I need to know facilities will be right before I leave home. Richard provides that assurance.

Richard arranged a wonderful trip to Paris for me and my family. He was very patient with us - because we kept changing our minds! All the arrangements he made for us worked perfectly, all we had to do was get on the train, we were met at the Gar du Nord and taken to the hotel and then for a drive round Paris. We had a couple of days to do what we wanted and then our driver arrived to take us back to the station - very happy 'cos we had such a lovely time. It was great to have someone to arrange all that for me.

I have no hesitation in recommending Richard's help in selecting and following through arrangements for your next holiday. It is easy to contact him for advice at any time even when you are actually away on the holiday if needed.

We would highly recommend using Richard's travel services. Richard arranged an excellent two-centre holiday for us to Florida. We gave a summary of our requirements and Richard provided suggestions with photos for us to choose from. He arranged everything from the flights to the car hire to the fabulous villa in Orlando, to the hotel in Clearwater. Everything ran like clockwork and we would definitely ask Richard to help us in the future.

I heartily recommend Richard Thompson as an excellent agent for any travel or holiday. He is always responsive and helpful no matter what your aspiration or budget. We have just enjoyed the most perfect holiday in The Gambia including private courier, sensibly timed flights and a first class hotel, all planned by Richard. It is also so reassuring to know he is readily available while away.

We've just had a super, stress-free holiday in Lanzarote organised expertly by Richard. He understood what we wanted exactly and found us something that suited our family perfectly, calling on his wealth of experience to make sure the resort had the right atmosphere and the accommodation was just right. A truely personal service and I would recommend Richard without hesitation. Thank you Richard!

I am a young woman who has cerebral palsy. I stumbled across Richard's website and then decided to look into going on holiday. It was the best stumble I have ever done!! Due to my condition I need certain equipment to get me from A to B - Richard dismissed my worries and organised everything and I mean everything. I would not hesitate to use his services again and again.

Richard was recommended to me by my practice partner, I rang him and began an exciting journey to find a near perfect villa holiday for July. Richard found over 20 places for us to look at - all via email, pics, maps and info - and kept trying when I`m sure others would have thought enough ! I`m already talking to Richard about a city break in October - I am very happy to recommend Richard .

I am disabled and need a wheelchair to get around, so my wife and my self's trip to Auckland, New Zealand, for my son's wedding was a major undertaking. We can only be thankful to have the good fortune to have Richard to make our travel arrangements and guide us all the way in what was needed to undertake this journey. He took care of all the transfers, air tickets and hotel bookings.

South Africa has been a long-held travel ambition and this month I was fortunate to make the journey south across the vast expanse of the African continent to the stunning Western Cape region of what I discovered to be a breathtakingly beautiful country. With several flights daily from the UK, getting there is easy. Along with nine of my Travel Counsellor colleagues on this amazing ‘FAM’ trip, we made a quick change at the very impressive Johannesburg Airport before the short hop down to Cape Town. The weather on arrival was more Weston Super Mare than Western Cape (it was winter...

Seekers of exotic, palm-shaded islands fringed with soft white sand beaches and washed with clear turquoise waters, would put the island of Mauritius close to the top of their holiday destination wish-list. But as I found out on a recent fact-finding sortie to this sun-drenched Indian Ocean island, Mauritius offers so, so much more. Mauritius has a fascinating past. The first permanent settlers were Dutch, landing in 1598. They established first sugar cane plantations with slave labour from Africa, and they called the island Mauritius after the governor, Maurice of Nassau. Today, large swathes of the island are...

DUBAI 5 YEARS ON My first trip to Dubai was one of amazement. Five years on and it is almost impossible to comprehend that the wonders of that first visit could be eclipsed. But Dubai is a destination that simply defies logic. You see, the rulers of this once sparse speck in the desert by the sea had a vision - "Build it and they will come". They did and they are. In their tens of millions. And what those that make the journey (either as a single centre holiday or on a stopover to one...

Prior to this trip, my first to the United Arab Emirates state, I often posed and have been asked the question 'Why Dubai?'. Well now I know. Quite simply, Dubai is unique. Of course the tiny United Arab Emirates state has many other 'labels' but if superlatives didn't exist, they would have to be invented for Dubai. We flew to Dubai with the excellent Royal Brunei. A 'dry' airline, they are happy for passengers to take their own alcohol onboard (which we did) and we enjoyed the flight which took just over six and a half hours. Dubai...

Just escaping the grey skies of England on a cold November morning was enough to raise a broad grin on my face as we ascended into the blue. But there were two more reasons to be cheerful on this flight south to Spain's sunshine coast (Costa del Sol) - my first trip back to the renowned resort of Marbella in almost two decades and the mouth-watering prospect of joining almost 1000 of my colleagues from around the world at Travel Counsellors Annual Conference - it's biggest ever! The sun shone brightly on arrival at Malaga Airport with the promise...

Spain has long been the number one air destination for British holiday-makers and the major Costas are well known to millions of us. But incredibly, there is one region of this sun-blessed land that remains relatively unexplored and untouched by the UK holiday market – the evocatively entitled ‘Orange Blossom Coast – Costa Azahar! This is the ‘Land of Valencia’ famed for its oranges and stunning early spring-time blossom (hence the name and nestles next to the Costa Blanca to the south and Catalunya to the north.) Having travelled much of Spain, this region came as a real surprise...

I have always had a fascination with countries that have emerged from conflict and strife and thrived on their new found freedoms. Vietnam, for example – which has established itself as one of the world’s great exotic destinations. So it was with a mix of personal curiosity and professional knowledge enhancement that I embarked on a ‘weekend break’ to the tiny Gulf State of Kuwait. Now don’t get me wrong – I like my destinations on the warm side. But when the airport thermometer is showing 37c at midnight, you know you’ve arrived somewhere hot, hot, hot....

Having worked as an alpine ski guide in my younger days, I have experienced some of Europe and North America’s great ski domains. But when it comes to the ideal alpine holiday destination, I prefer mine to be of the chocolate box variety. I want my senses stirred by wood smoke and cowbells, taste buds tantalized by strudel and schnapps - and for that, it can only be Austria. So when I was asked to arrange a ski holiday for 10 families with ages ranging from 4 to 54 and varying ability levels, I opted for an...

Now shopping is most definitely not at the top of my list of favourite activities. So it was against the grain when I headed off to check out just what was driving the stellar rise in popularity of continental ‘Christmas Markets’. Indeed the generic ‘German Xmas Market’ can now to be found, with local influences, straddling the great waterways of Europe - the Maas, Rhine, Mosel and Danube to name but a few. From November and into the New Year the cobbled lanes and market squares of villages, towns and cities across the near Continent are...

I first visited Larnaca in 1979 during a weekend break from my summer job in Corfu. My lingering memories from that visit are not of the islands superb beaches, nor the endless days of blue skies and sunshine. What I recall, with great clarity, are staggeringly large quantities of delicious food – the Cypriot mezes are legendary! I also vividly remember my trip to the Troodos Mountains that offered a cool ‘alpine-like’ retreat from the summer heat of coastal plains. Such are the contrasts of Cyprus that it is possible to enjoy a superb holiday without...
