The British Airways First Class Experience

When we flew to Beijing last month, I was lucky enough to be flying in First Class, something I have never done before, and to say I was excited is an understatement!

We arrived at Heathrow Airports Terminal 5 in plenty of time in order to ensure we could enjoy the experience to the max. You have your own separate area in the terminal to check in, making it feel very exclusive and private from the outset. Check in was a breeze and done and dusted in just a few minutes. Then you go straight through your own personal security, two conveyor belts and plenty of staff, so there was no queuing, no weaving through barriers, just straight through, do not pass go, into the lounge!

You have the choice of the Galleries First lounge or the Concorde lounge, we opted for the latter as it was lunch time and you get sit down table service. Food was divine, three courses, with champagne and wine to accompany the meal. After lunch, my husband went through to the bar and it was time for my massage in the Elemis Spa. I had a 15 minute back and shoulder massage, they do it over your clothes and apply lovely smelling aromatherapy oils to the towel in front of you, making me feel lovely and relaxed and ready for my 11-hour flight ahead.

Time to board, and we were late, too much champagne in the lounge, oops! We weren’t the last though thank goodness. Anyhow, not a problem, we were met at the door of the aircraft by our crew and shown to our seats, next to each other but totally private too, with plenty of storage, a pair of pyjamas, slippers, a lovely Liberty amenity kit, and another glass of champagne! We were the only two in the cabin, so felt well and truly spoilt.

After take-off we were given the option of when to have our meal and what we wanted. I chose the beef and wine to go with it, of course, and to have it at dinner time, 6.30.pm. Then I settled down to watch a movie.

The crew were attentive throughout without being in your face, and we wanted for nothing. Dinner arrived and was delicious and so well presented, how they manage a pudding with hot chocolate sauce and ice cream on a flight I’ll never know!

After my meal it was time for a sleep, my bed was made for me with mattress and duvet, I then snuggled down for a few hours’ sleep. On waking, it was breakfast time, again we were offered a huge selection of food, I chose the omelette, which came with a lovely plate of fresh fruit and warm breads.

Before we knew it, we were landing, and our few hours of pure luxury were sadly over. It was great arriving in Beijing, knowing we had a full day ahead of sightseeing, but feeling as refreshed as we possibly could be after a 11-hour flight!

British Airways offers a product that is both elegant and luxurious without being ostentatious. Pure understated Class. Thank you BA.
