Long Weekend in the Sun

There is only one reason your alarm clock should go off at 0330 and that is if you are off on holiday! Taking the 0600 flight from Luton meant my Mum and I arrived at our hotel in Tenerife for our Mum & Daughter long weekend by 1100 and by lunchtime we were changed from winter clothes into swim suits lying by the pool soaking up the sun.

The Bahia Del Duque in Costa Adeje is a stunning 5 star hotel on the beach front at Del Duque a great place for a bit of winter sunshine and pamper, your every whim is catered for from the choice of pillows available in your room to whether you want to eat Italian or Asian food, plus the happy, friendly staff offer the best service – even it a was a bit of a shock to be greeted by my name at the front desk on arrival – if you wonder how they knew who I was the guard at the security gate called ahead and advised we were on our way ! those extra touches along with an Hola or Buenos Noches every time you passed a member of staff, made you feel at home !

Tenerife offers a mix of hotel choices from your 5* hotels to you 3* apartments whatever your desire Tenerife can cater to your needs, it is a great location for some winter sun with average temperature of 24 degrees in December even if it was cloudy some days it was still hot enough to lie by the pool and relax with a book thinking of everyone back home in the cold.

Taxis are cheap but if you are feeling fit and like to walk the promenade from Costa Adeje runs along the sea front past Playa Fanabe and down into Playa del Las Americas, there is a huge selection of restaurants from your typical holiday resort ones, I can recommend the Hawaii in Playa Fanabe good value, lovely food and great service a two course meal with soft drinks & tip costing around 40 Euros (£30) to the more luxurious Hacienda at The Bahia Del Duque where a two course meal with soft drinks & tip is around 80 Euros (£60) for two. Want to be entertained at night there is a choice of bars where you can enjoy a singer or maybe choose a quiet one and watch the world wonder by.

The aim of my long weekend was to switch off from work, relax, enjoy some sunshine, and catch up with my Mum, If I had felt more energetic I could of gone to the waterpark ( Siam Park) , or taken a Dolphin Cruise, popped up to the North to Loro Park, or tried a bit of paddle boarding to name but a few - as you can see Tenerife has something for everyone young or old.

The 1920 flight home on Tuesday evening soon came round – would I of liked to stay longer? Yes I would but this was a flying visit and I will be back!

My top tip to get the most out of the long weekend is book an extra night at the hotel so you can have your room right up until you leave on the Tuesday giving you the whole day and pack your swim stuff in your hand luggage so instead of sitting waiting for your room to be ready you can be enjoying the sunshine !
