UK city break

Do you fancy a UK city break in the North but not York or Manchester? What about Leeds? Having not visited since 2005 I was really pleasantly surprised to see how smart a city it is, with endless shopping opportunities.

As well as the usual high street stores, (and unlike many large towns these days I didn't see an empty shop space) there are also larger department stores - John Lewis, Debenhams and House of Fraser. Trinity Leeds houses 120 stores, Victoria Quarter has some of the top fashion designer’s shops and it is a stunning arcade, one of many with small boutique shops and cafes.

My favourite is the traditional indoor Kirkgate market with its fabulous old stores and with 800 stalls it is one of the largest in Europe. Lots of delicatessens and places to stop and have refreshments, be sure to head there before a Sunday though, it does have a day off.

There are lots of well recognized hotel brands here - all very central, as is the train station so if you have time for a longer break the train will easily get you to York or Harrogate too.

Leeds is all very easily accessible on foot and with a mix of old and new buildings plenty of photo opportunities too. From relaxed and informal dining where you can enjoy top quality charcuterie, cheese and wine, to Michelin star, there is something for every taste and pocket and it is truly a gem for places to meet friends and enjoy a fabulous weekend break all year round.
