Amsterdam Mini Cruise - back to the 70's

Having always been a bit of an organiser I planned a trip on P&O Ferrries with a group of friends as a pre-40th Birthday celebration! I had done many trips on P&O so I knew the return crossing was usually a little reserved as everyone is tired and catching up from the early mornings. So… I decided to make it fancy dress - a 1970's night...

After a late night on-board and a 06:30 wake up call, everyone was a little tired once we had checked into the hotel so we decided to "do our own thing" and meet up for dinner. We stayed in Hotel Victoria which is in a fabulous location only 5 minutes walk from the Central station. It has amazing architecture, a truly stunning 5* hotel. The service here was second-to-none, to the extent of such rare personal attention to detail that when we asked the door man for a recommendation of a restaurant in the area for our party of 18 - he took us.

We followed him through a few streets to a little bar where we were given a free drink whilst we perused the menu and then once the meal was almost ready shown to our table. The majority of the party ordered steak and with varying orders from 'blue' to 'well done' everyones was cooked to perfection. The evening was rounded off with visit to the famous 'Red-light district' of Amsterdam.

The following day we had at leisure, taking in a barge trip to see the sights and a lot of shopping in places like C&A which are no longer in the UK

Once on back on board the ferry we had our evening meal, before heading back to the cabin and then stepping back into the 70's. As you will see from the photos the final outcome was quite stunning and we created some great amusement to fellow passengers. We had a fantastic night, and great fun was had by all. Everytime we look at these photos now we smile!
