Couples San Souci
From the moment we arrived there was a drink, a cold towel and a friendly welcome. There are a lot of steps in this hotel so you need to be reasonably fit. The way the hotel is designed is like an Italian piazza and all the rooms are sea view with generous balconies. There is also a fridge on the balcony with spirits and mixers. The hotel gives you an order form so you can order what you want in the minibar (we never finished out bottle of Gin and bottle of Rum) and there is also free Wi-Fi in the room so it’s perfect if you want to check on your emails.
Our room was near the hotel spa and mineral pool (which was so peaceful) and the hidden Jacuzzis which were fabulous in the evening. The spa was very original with its little individual hideaways on the hills and we idled away many an hour at the mineral pool (and munched on home made biscuits). It’s just as well we could work them off with the steps! We went to the Tennis coaching where there was just the two of us and Joe (the US pro). It was brilliant. I also managed aqua aerobics once which was a good work out.
The restaurants were all great. This is where I think San Souci has the edge as they have room for a beach BBQ and gala night which were excellent. Though we rarely managed pudding we were so full! The Casanova Bar was really nice and intimate with its tables lit with candles for two. I discovered the piano sing-along on the last night which I loved! I found the hotel quite social towards the end of the stay and there were a few Brits staying there. Entertainment was generally of a good standard.
We loved the lake area where you could watch the bird life and the turtles. (We also befriended Crackers the parrot who took a shine to my husband!) We climbed Dunns River Falls; an excursion included with the hotel which was excellent and only a 20 minute drive away which was even better.
All in all, this was a lovely stay and up to the usual high Couples standards.
