Mavellous Marrakesh

MARRAKECH – Last August, I planned a seven-day, family holiday trip to Marrakech, so we could celebrate the birthday of my Mum's 70th surprise. Marrakech, it turns out, is the ultimate family trip to suit everyone. We took in the museum/shopping/spa, wonderful gardens and it was to missed a day trip out with our very own private guide to the Atlas mountains which was incredible.

Marrakech is easier to get to than people think (a 3-hour flight to Marrakesh from the UK, followed by 15 minute drive to the centre), and the scene is wonderful.

For shopping: I love it! and the historic souk is another thing. From studded leather bags, candy-coloured slippers, kaftans, tea glasses, embroidered tunics, hand-sewn linen napkins, perfume bottles, and ceramics - everything you can buy under one roof at amazing prices.

We booked into a fantastic hotel just on the outskirts of Marrakesh, It suited us all and the food was fantastic, something for everyone's taste buds.

Getting around: You'll can walk to most places you'll want to go, and taxis are cheap and plentiful when you need a ride.

IF YOU ONLY DO THREE THINGS

1. Walk the souks.

2. Visit the Atlas Mountains - even see Richard Branson's property.

3. Have drinks on the roof of Riad el Fenn.

This is a wonderful destination for a city break, family holiday, romantic getaway.
