Hi, I’m Wayne and I am a Travel Counsellor based on the Essex/Suffolk border in a village called Leavenheath. I have lived here now for the past six years and love how nice and quiet it is whilst being very close to bigger towns like Sudbury and Colchester.
Before becoming a Travel Counsellor I got myself a backpack and went off around the world. I have seen and done some amazing things and can draw on my own experiences from travelling in five continents.
When returning from my own travels I knew I wanted to turn my hobby into my job. I worked as a travel expert for a high street company where I was tailor making dream trips for people including adventure holidays, gap years, honeymoons, package holidays and much more. It was also during my time there that I became a country specialist in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and many more.
I have really loved most places that I have been, so picking favourite destinations is really difficult so I have narrowed it down to regions. For Europe I have picked Italy as I love the food and the culture. In Asia I will go for Japan as the history fascinates me and the people are the friendliest that I have ever met. For South America I have picked Brazil for its variation of jungle and beach areas not to mention the stunning Iguassu Falls. Out of the English speaking countries I have picked Australia as this is a country that has unique wildlife, amazing scenery and a general relaxed way of life.
What I love about being a Travel Counsellor is the personal service that you don’t get on the high street. We get to know our customers personally including their likes and dislikes and what makes a perfect trip for them. I also love that I am not confined to shop opening hours and can be available to fit in around the needs of my customers.
I hope to hear from you soon and we can get planning a dream trip tailored just for you.

Wayne you have been an absolute gem. You helped remove the niggles of searching & sourcing accommodation, flights & taxi service. Much appreciated. The extra service provided checking in online was also much appreciated. I will certainly be using Travel Counsellors again & will most definitely recommend your company.

Small touches of appreciation. AAfter 3 years of promises, I have finally managed to book a big holiday for my son and I to Florida and Denver (to see his cousins) in the summer and I cannot wait to have such a great time with him and my sister and family. A card is as simple as it comes but, as a small business owner myself, I appreciate the sentimentality and gratitude that comes with it. Thank You to Wayne Barsby from Travel Counsellors for making all the arrangements for us and taking all the stress out of what is going to be an awesome adventure. I cannot recommend Wayne enough, so if you have a holiday to book and don’t want the hassle of making all the little arrangements yourself then you know where to go. Thanks Wayne, thanks for the card!

A massive thank you to Wayne Barsby of Travel Counsellors. I have used Wayne's services on a couple of occasions now and can't recommend him highly enough. He takes all the stress out of finding the perfect holiday. His attention to detail is first rate and the choices of holiday destinations and accommodation he finds are superb. Communication throughout the entire process is excellent and the end result is a fantastic holiday with all the planning and arrangements sorted out for you. Thank you.

Wayne - I want to say a massive thank you for all your help and support in creating our phenomenal holiday to Thailand. Wayne was really helpful in listening to what me and my husband wanted from our trip, then creating a package that supported this. Our accommodation was excellent, our itinerary was awesome, and the holiday was the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. Wayne’s support was brilliant, with contact before, during and after our holiday, including messaging me to see how my husband was after a Jellyfish sting. From start to finish, we found it really reassuring that Wayne was easily contactable should any problems arise, right through to him checking us in before our multiple flights to and around Thailand. We would definitely use him again and easily recommend him to anyone wanting to go on holiday.

I have just come back from a fantastic holiday to Interlaken in Switzerland with my mum. Thank you so much to Wayne Barsby from travel counsellors for sorting everything out for us. Wayne was very professional, providing excellent communication and personal touches that you don't get when booking through a travel agents or on the internet, for example checking us in for the flights there and back, having a note waiting for us in the hotel room and sending us a box of biscuits, tea, coffee and milk for when we returned. It was great having one individual to contact if any issues cropped up. I would highly recommend booking your holiday with Wayne Barsby!

Would highly recommend Travel Counsellors! They were very professional and helpful and gave some brilliant advice so I could properly decide which policy to choose. Everything was talked through and the policy was sent to me before buying it, so I could take my time to read it through.. Not rushed into the decision which was lovely, and all handled extremely efficiently. Thank you!

I'm someone who's terrible at sending thank you cards, but absolutely love receiving them. Thank you Wayne for your kind note. David and I are beyond excited for our trip in 319 days!! We knew exactly what we wanted and you did it for us. Yours is an industry that is often shrouded in miscommunication and resulting disappointments. But not you Wayne. I would highly recommend booking your next holiday with Wayne. He knows the world inside out and takes the time to listen to determine exactly what you want. As someone who has booked many holidays online, it was a real pleasure to talk to a real person, who has taken all the stress out of it. No getting an email 3 weeks before urgently needing passport details, because that's all done by him. Now we can forget about it for the next 10 months (although we're so excited we probably won't). Thank you so much.

This was my first time travelling alone and I was rather nervous. Wayne was brilliant, took care of everything day and night and answered all my silly questions, sometimes twice. Nothing was too much trouble, he cares about his clients and is there every step of the way. I had a fantastic holiday in Petra, the holiday of a lifetime. I have since recommended him to friends to find the right holiday for them.

Holidays are a very important part of my life. I enjoy taking them and I actually quite enjoy researching and planning them. So when I entrusted the planning of a holiday to mark our 35th wedding anniversary to Wayne Barsby, I did so with a small measure of initial reservation. That reservation was very short-lived and by the time the holiday was completed, I could not praise highly enough Wayne’s service throughout the whole process. From sourcing a fantastic hotel and cruise-ship from the brief given to him to arranging every last detail of the trip to Miami and the Caribbean cruise, the whole service was superb and the holiday ran like clockwork. Don’t for one moment confuse Wayne’s service with that of a conventional High Street travel agent – there really is no comparison. Every last detail is not only arranged but re-checked closer to the time, including transfers and excursions. Wayne completed all the ship check-in documentation for us and flight check-in and seat bookings. He even contacted the cruise company to notify them we were celebrating our wedding anniversary on the ship which resulted in us receiving a welcome and congratulatory note in our cabin from the captain and a celebratory cake. And when we finally arrived back home, on our doormat was a small package containing a welcome home note from Wayne and a selection of tea, coffee, sugar and milk packets for that much-needed cuppa after a long journey. You don’t get that from your High Street travel agent. In fact, you get very little of what we received from Wayne from a High Street travel agent. So if you want someone to organise your holiday who cares about it as much as you do (and remember, the service doesn’t cost you a penny!) don’t hesitate to use Wayne Barsby. I’ll certainly be using him again without a moment’s hesitation. Peter Richardson Colchester

As we have now entered the new year I thought I would give you all a little tease of what new things can be expected over the coming year. The cruise market is expected to grow again with new ships being launched by many different operators with lots of exciting new features including a magic carpet cantilevered platform that moves between decks on Celebrity Edge. Norwegian Cruise Line will be launching Norwegian Bliss and this promises an open-air laser tag and a duel-level racing track. Royal Caribbean will take the mantle of the world’s largest ship when Symphony of the Seas...

I’m freshly back from my trip to British Columbia so it only seemed right to tell you all about it. My first stop was Vancouver Lookout. This gave me a fantastic view over the city. You reach the top in a glass elevator and there are staff on hand to point out what you are looking at. On a clear day, you even see as far as Vancouver Island. After this I headed to Stanley Park which is beautiful and there are some lovely walks you can take. It is great for cycling. You can see some beautiful totem poles with...

New Zealand is quite possibly the world’s most scenic country but I feel it is often overlooked for Australia when people decide where they would like to go. Australia is of course brilliant but New Zealand also deserves to be high on people’s bucket lists and to do both islands well I think you need to give yourself around a month as there is so much to cover. The North Island is rich with culture and the scenery is beautiful. Auckland is the largest city and comes with what you would expect from a city with lots to do including a great...

Having backpacked around the world, I thought I would share with you my top 12 European cities. Of course, this list will likely change as I visit more countries and I have had to leave out some great places to get it down to 12 but here is my current list: 1. Venice 2. Paris 3. Rome 4.London 5. Madrid 6. Berlin 7. Krakow 8. Florence 9. Amsterdam 10. Edinburgh 11. Dublin 12. Stockholm If you're looking for information or advice on any of these countries, please get in touch and I'll explain why they made it into my top 12 list!

When I was younger I was always fascinated with the idea of travelling the world and then in 2011 I put a backpack on my back and took off. I decided to go for it when a friend of mine had taken four months to travel to some amazing places and after reading his postcards I got jealous and thought I would do the same. I saved up for four years and researched the places I wanted to see and while I was doing this I travelled a lot in Europe seeing some incredible places and natural sites. Then the day came for...

With customers getting more adventurous with the destinations they now like to holiday at I thought I would write about the next hosts of the Olympic Games. I found Brazil to be an incredible country with lots of variety for all types of traveller. The most popular destination is Rio de Janeiro. It has the beautiful Copacabana Beach, Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer statue. For football fans there is the Maracanã Stadium and you can go to a Samba show. One of the reasons for the popularity of this city is the world famous Rio Carnival which attracts visitors the...

Australia is an incredible country with a wonderful variation of things to see and do. Each area will offer something different from the desert of the Red Centre to the tropical area of Queensland. Most people that go to Australia tend to just stick to the east coast as the distances are not so big and this coast is fantastic to visit. I would personally recommend trying to see another part of the country as well, whether it be Western Australia, The Red Centre, or Tasmania. I will take you on a little journey around the country now and I will start...

Let me introduce you to my favourite Asian country, Japan, which has a wonderful rich history, an interesting culture and some great food. Add to your experience by staying in a Ryokan, which is a traditional Japanese style guesthouse. Don’t pass up the opportunity to try their famous drink, Sake, made from rice water. Shucho is another! Made from either rice, barley or potato, it’s a strong Japanese spirit. My favourite drink overall was Umesho, a Japanese plum wine but tasted more like a schnapps. Language differences can be overcome. During my time in Japan I came across some of the...
