Iceland adventures

The land of fire and ice is one of the world’s most captivating destinations: a place that will fill you with wonder and awe in the face of nature’s powers. We’ve shared some of our favourite ways to really get under the skin of this tiny, sparsely populated country with its dramatic landscapes.

Iceland adventures

A 6-night 2-centre Iceland Holiday

Over the course of nearly a week in Iceland, you’ll enjoy many of its scenic highlights. On the very evening of your arrival, for instance, you’ll set forth on a Northern Lights cruise (with the option to come again for free if the spectacular aurora borealis doesn’t make an appearance). The following day, you can relax in the world-famous geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon with its rejuvenating silica, algae and minerals, then the third day is spent whale-watching from Reykjavik harbour before taking a Reykjavik Food Walk experiencing local cuisine, people, history and tradition.

From Reykjavik you’ll travel to the Golden Circle by Super Jeep, to explore Iceland’s top three most-popular attractions: Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir erupting hot spring and mighty Gullfoss Waterfall. You’ll also get to enjoy the thrill of snowmobiling on Langjökull Glacier, before spending the night in an iconic luxury lodge with a on-site observatory for Northern Lights spotting and stargazing, and geothermally heated hot tubs for starlit soaking.

After this you’ll head to Þórsmörk nature reserve in South Iceland, with spectacular hiking and adventurous Super Jeep rides over unbridged glacial rivers.  Lastly, you’ll  visit Skógafoss and (seen in Game of Thrones) and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls, hike on Sólheimajökull glacier and spend time at Reynisfjara black sand beach.

An 8-night Self-drive South Coast Itinerary

Taking in some of the same sights but also leading your further along the south coast, this itinerary has the benefit of allowing you to travel under your own steam while knowing that everything, including accommodation en route, has been taken care of for you.

After visiting the Blue Lagoon, Reykjavik and the Golden Circle, you’ll continue along the coast to Vik, past waterfalls, glaciers, volcanoes and black-sand beaches. Past Vik, you’ll continue your journey on Iceland’s iconic Route 1 as far as the Vatnajökull glacier area, where the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon with its icebergs floating out to sea is a mesmerising sight. Further recommendations in this compelling area are Skaftafell National Park with its hiking routes including the easy hike to magnificent Svartifoss Waterfall.

Returning west, you’ll have time to see attractions you might have missed on the way out, adding in optional activities that we can advise you on, before enjoying your final day in Reykjavik.

A Land and Sea Itinerary

Our Reykjavik to Southampton itinerary welcomes you off your flight with a restorative dip in the Blue Lagoon before whisking you off for a Super Jeep Golden Circle tour and snowmobiling on the glacier. You’ll then continue aboard your superb luxury cruise vessel, Silversea’s Silver Moon, to Heimaey in the Westman Islands, famous for its puffins, where a choice of excursions includes a lava-field hike.

Other Icelandic stop-offs are Djupivogur, with the option to sign up for a nature walk, and Seydisfjordur, where you can hike to waterfalls.
