Travel Counsellors stay at the Grecotel Corfu Imperial

On a recent trip to the Grecotel Corfu Imperial on the island’s east coast, Gaynor was among a group of our ‘Gold’ (top-selling) Travel Counsellors who got to experience this lovely property first hand.

Travel Counsellors stay at the Grecotel Corfu Imperial

The Travel Counsellors got to look around all the room types at the resort, which are extensive – you can choose from waterfront suites, swim-up family bungalows, and apartments, and even aristocratic villas and dreamy palazzos with private pools. They include the Il Boschetto collection designed exclusively for families, set amidst olive groves and offering several family options within contemporary Corfiot–Italian architecture. The largest villas sleep up to eight, which as Gaynor points out makes this a great resort for multigenerational holidays or for people catching up with other family or friends.

Grecotel Corfu Imperial offers a luxury experience but one with an authentic Greek feel. This shone out in everything from the views from the resort (of an old Greek fortress and the harbour) to the free shuttles to the sister hotel, the all-inclusive Lux Me Daphnila Bay, to dine in the waterfront Greek Tavernaki with its meze and ouzo (as part of the half-board Dine Club experience), and to the Greek-style Danilia Village (where ‘The Durrells’ was filmed) with its traditional local music and dancing.

She also loved that the resort has a peaceful location within the exclusive Grecotel Kommeno development on its own secluded peninsula, while offering complimentary shuttles so you can enjoy local bars, restaurants and sights too.

Another thing that stood out for Gaynor was that within just three hours’ flight of the UK, the Grecotel Corfu Imperial gives you the kind of world-class experience you might expect to have to fly further for. She points out that in addition that Corfu airport has recently been refurbished and has a huge array of facilities – and that the transfer from the airport to the resort is a blissfully short 20 minutes!

The resort is in the most idyllic of spots in Italian-style gardens, with private coves, three sandy Blue Flag beaches with waiter service, and one diving beach – making it very special and unique. Popular with royalties and other A-listers, it’s been the setting for some of the greatest moments in Greece’s and Europe’s contemporary history. Gaynor particularly rated the superb service, the two-storey spa with its indoor pool and sauna, and the fact that the resort’s main outdoor pool is heated in May and October when it might otherwise be a little chilly. The group experienced a huge variety of food, both authentic to the region, as well as some expertly crafted dishes from all over the world.

For Gaynor, the resort is perfect for couple, for friends, and for parents with older kids or for those with younger kids who seek style without compromise. Although it has a great kids’ club for ages 4–6 and 7–12 years (plus Grecoteens activities in high season), she felt that the hotel had quite an adult feel, making it ideal for parents who want the perfect combination of luxury and flexibility for their children.

"Just wow! This trip was amazing from start to finish. We were looked after so well, the hotel, views, rooms, food and drink all honestly outstanding, but best of all the people!

It was so lovely spending time with everyone and their partners, we really are surrounded by diamonds. Thank you all for making it such a fabulous trip, I feel very special to of being part of it."
