Why choose the Conrad Chia Laguna

We’ll let you in on a little secret – April and May are some of the best times of year to visit the large Italian island Sardinia, with spring in full swing or tipping over into early summer, and lots of sunshine to bask in without the high temperatures of high summer – or the crowds.

We love Sardinia for the sandy beaches of its nearly 2,000km of coastline, its hiking trails and its history (don’t miss its Bronze Age, beehive-hive shaped stone nuraghi, especially Nuraghe La Prisgiona). Other fantastic experiences include touring the artists’ village and market of San Pantaleo, meeting local weavers, and savouring tastings at local wineries.

Why choose the Conrad Chia Laguna

The views over a lagoon populated by pink flamingos from this welcoming contemporary resort on the islands southern coast overlooking Chia Bay will take your breath away, but one of the things we love most about it is its naturally inspired design – it both drew on and blends into the lovely landscape in which it sits.

The Conrad is not actually right on the beach, but you’ll enjoy the benefits of a private shuttle service and exclusive services to both Monte Cogoni and Le Dune beaches. There are the options to hire beach cabanas,  participate in organised beach activities and of course access to changing rooms.

Back at the resort itself, if you’re travelling with your kids, between April to September they can enjoy fun activities and make new friends at the fabulous kids’ club, which caters for kids and teens up to 17.  Meanwhile, families can have fun together at the kids’ pool with its little water fountain.

And while the kids are being entertained, you might want to sneak in some pampering in the spa with its water massage pool with bay views, surrounded by lush plant life and gorgeously scented by strawberries, mastic, juniper and myrtle. The massages and rituals here are something out of the ordinary, harnessing as they do the healing energy of Mediterranean nature, including rasul mud treatments ideal after long days on the beach. There’s also a sauna, a Turkish bath and experiential showers, plus a 24-hour gym with the latest tech and a juice bar – plus sea views while you work out.

The two restaurants and the bar at the Conrad Chia Laguna serve excellent, traditional Sardinian and Mediterranean dishes, organic wines, champagne, cocktails, smoothies and more, but should you wish to branch out – and why not? – there are other options on hand at the other hotels within the Chia Laguna complex, including a sushi and sashimi restaurant. There’s also room service for full-on indulgence.

There are only just over 100 rooms and suites here – it’s a fairly small resort – all with airy Mediterranean decor and some with spectacular views of the bay and lagoon.  For families, we recommend those in the Oasi area with is dedicated pool, private entrances, gardens and access to the adjacent kids’ rooms. Its 34 guest rooms are mostly suites with a living area and/or second bedroom.

You may very well be tempted to stay in the resort for your entire holiday, and we wouldn’t blame you. But it’s worth pointing out that this hotel is only an hour from island’s historical capital Cagliari, which is worth a day’s exploring.
