My Greek series - Lefkada Island

Jane Hounsome on 22 September 2022
Lefkada Island, known as the 'Caribbean of Greece'. Greek authentic and just a short hop from Preveza airport. Connected by a bridge to the mainland, lifted a few times a year, which gives Lefkada it's island status. One of the Ionian Islands.

Here there are some of the most photographed beaches in the world, with dramatic mountain back drops, and marinas that cater for yachts.

We stayed at hotel Crystal Waters, a small luxurious hotel with a lovely vibe and contemporary arcitecture, located in the village of Nikiana, which is full of water front bars and restaurants.

The hotel has beautiful pools, private pools and sea views. It has a very cosmopolitan ambience, and high level food choices.

It's worth hiring a car to drive to beaches and through the beautiful mountainus interior up to hilltop villages. Or you can hire a little boat to visit the tiny isles close by, and swim in the sea caves in the remoter outliers such as Kastos and Kalamos.

It's also possible to sail by Skorpios, the legenary island of Onassis and Jackie Kennedy. You can also visit the Ionian Island of Kefalonia.

Top Tips:

Take an Island boat trip to visit the blue flag sandy beaches with turquoise water.

Hire a car to visit the villages in the mountains.

Visit the Waterfalls in Nydri.

I book hotels with Breakfast or Villas with pools so that you can experience the restaurants.

Visit Lefkada Town for a vibrant nightlife.
