Gumbet, Turkey - 2010

Andrea Lovatt on 05 June 2010
This was my 12th visit to Gumbet in Turkey and my 12th stay at the same hotel!

Every year, myself and a group of friends always book to stay at ‘The Bagevleri Hotel’ in Gumbet, on the Bodrum Peninsula, for either 7 or 14 nights. We love this time of year as it is not too busy but the weather is still beautiful.

‘The Bagevleri Hotel’ is a small family run bed and breakfast hotel in a fantastic location, just off the main road so very near to the beach, shops and restaurants in Gumbet. The hotel has a lovely pool area, bar and restaurant and with a shop just across the road you don’t even have to leave the hotel for the day if you don’t want to!

Whenever we go to Turkey, we always start our holiday off with a Turkish bath. We went to a gorgeous hotel in Bitez, a nearby resort, to have our bath, followed by a body which prepares your skin for a lovely tan without peeling and then a lovely massage. As always, this left me feeling lovely and relaxed and ready for my two week holiday.

During our two week stay, we took a gulet cruise along the coast where we made lots of stops to swim in the sea, enjoy a lovely lunch and took a trip to ‘Camel Beach’ where a few of us had a quick ride along the beach on a camel!

We spent most of our days enjoying the sun and the pool at the hotel but had a few days on the beach in Gumbet and Bitez. It was on Gumbet beach that a few of us had a ride on the ringos …. Inflatable rings pulled along through the water by a speedboat. I hadn’t been on these for a few years so it was good fun to do this again!

I love the resort of Bitez which is about a five minute drive from Gumbet. We always spend a couple of our days on the beach here as it is much nicer, quieter beach than in Gumbet. It is more ‘cosmopolitan’ resort and has a little market selling gifts, clothes and gorgeous jewellery. We also went back to Bitez for an evening meal a few times which made a nice change from being in Gumbet. I wouldn’t want to stay here for my whole holiday as it is a bit too quiet for me but it is lovely for a visit or two. We spent our evenings eating in some of the many lovely restaurants in and around Gumbet including the restaurant at our hotel and the ‘Café Columbia Steak House’ right across the road from the hotel. I always have a fantastic time in Turkey. Aswell as what I have mentioned, there is always so much to do in and around Gumbet. There are lots of shops to buy ‘fake’ designer gear and lots of bars and nightclubs. The larger resort of Bodrum is only a five minute bus ride away where this a lovely harbour area, castle and lots more shops and bigger bars and nightclubs including the world famous ‘Halikarnas’.

I love the ‘Bagevleri Hotel, where we always stay. It is a small family run hotel in a great location. We know we will always be looked after by the hotel staff.

I am sure we will be returning here for many years to come!

If you would like to more about Gumbet and Bodrum or about the Bagevleri Hotel please just let me know.
