I was invited to spend time onboard a Virgin Voyage on a 5 night trip from Portsmouth earlier this month, visiting Amsterdam and Bruges. This was a new experience for me, I had heard a lot about the newish cruise brand, Virgin burst on the the cruising scene amid much publicity. Virgin were always going to do cruise their way. No set meal times, no dress code, no key cards, passengers are Sailors, onboard credit is Sailor Loot and a Bar Tab for your drinks. Relaxed atmosphere onboard, Crew wear chinos and polo shirts, all first names. Before you get near the ship everything about your cruise is on the VV (Virgin Voyages) App, once registered on the App your booking will show up, pre cruise information will come through the App, you buy your bar tab and excursions through the App, ship details what is where is onboard, nothing is on paper, everything is on the app. Lots of information on App for you to find. When checking in cases given to staff to label, to be delivered to your cabin, once your passport has been checked you are given your red wrist band, this is very important, this device which is waterproof will open your cabin door, get you on and off the ship, you buy anything onboard. Once onboard you start to find your way around, lots to find and explore. The main things that struck me was the contrast, outside could be quite loud and busy around the pools, having said that once you come inside you can find plenty of places to find a quiet corner, small bars you stumble across, a game area, a hidden bar - not forgetting the gym and spa (great emphasis on health an well being) sports deck. You will also find a daily schedule on the App this is also printed for you to pick up from various points around the ship, this tells you what is on where and when. VV has won numerous awards from the trade and their customers particularly for their food. Numerous places to eat both inside and out on deck as well, all food is included. Some places you pre book via the App or onboard some you can just walk in, something for everyone whatever you fancy to eat. Pink Agave Mediterranean, Gumbae Korean inspired table BBQ, Extra Virgin Italian, Test Kitchen (think Heston Blumental meets Science Lab) The Galley food court wide selection of different foods, Pizza Place, Burger Bar, Razzle Dazzle Vegetarian, Juice and Ice Cream bars. You won't starve onboard, lots of places to eat and drink. Lovely calm decor, natural colours and materials. Unusual art work around the ship. Included in the price all food, gratuities, basic WiFi (can be upgraded when onboard) tea and coffee and water. You pre purchase a bar tab for your drinks. A choice of cabins, mainly balcony cabins, also inside and outside as well as Suites. The Rockstar Suites have access to the exclusive Richard Roof Top area. I have added a selection of photographs to give you a snap shot of the ship and life onboard. Virgin Voyages have 4 ships at the moment, number 5 on the way. Summer is spent in Europe, Winter in the Caribbean, Far East, Australia and Alaska planned. If you would like to know more about Virgin Voyages get in touch, let me arrange that for you.

I have recently returned from my onw holiday with P&O Cruises onboard Aurora. I left Southampton for a 12 night Fjords cruise with 9 days of ports and scenic cruising and 3 days at sea. We were lucky with smooth seas on the way to and from Norway and sunshine whilst we were there. Aurora is one of the 2 smaller adult only ships P&O have, Aurora sails from Southampton all year round, a wide choice of destinations and durations. Shorter cruises up to 7 nights to Europe, long cruises to Norway, Baltic Capitals, Iceland, Canary Islands, Spain and Portugal as well as Mediterranean. Aurora will also go in search of the Norther Lights and fantastic long 75 night cruise to South America. Something in that selection for everyone Cabins: As you would expect Aurora has a choice of cabins for all budgets. Inside, Outside, Balcony and lovely suites. Not forgetting a number of single cabins and adapted cabins. Dining: You certainly won't starve onboard. The Horizon Buffet offers a relaxed style of eating venue for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as snacks. Deck snack can be found at the Lido Grill plus ice cream too (charge applies), 2 main dining rooms Medina for Freedom dining and Alexandria for fixed 1st of 2nd dining. 3 extra restaurants which carry a cover charge. Sindu (Indian) Glass House (Gastro Pub) and The Beech House (BBQ, Steak Grill and fish) Afternoon tea can be found in The Horizon or in one of the main restaurants. What's onboard: So much for you enjoy, bars and lounges both inside and out on deck, Gym, Sports Court, Spa, Deck Games, Sports Bar, swimming pools (one with a retractable roof) shops, Library, Card Room, Art Gallery, 2 show lounges for entertainment, guest acts and dancing. Yesterday I was in Southampton having been invited to spend a few hours onboard Queen Anne Cunard’s newest addition to the fleet, increasing the fleet to 4. Queen Anne joins fellow Queens Victoria, Elizabeth and Queen Mary 2. Queen Anne is the 249th ship to sail under the Cunard flag and the first new ship for 14 years. Queen Anne is a large modern spacious ship, 113,000 tonnes with a maximum capacity of 3000. If I was to describe this ship in a few words I would say, elegant, understated elegance along with quiet sophistication. A modern ship but with links to Cunard’s long heritage, red, white and blue colours in show, Commodore Lounge, Queens Room, Carinthia Lounge, Golden Lion Pub, Grill Restaurants, Sir Samuel’s Steakhouse. Beautiful art work and sculptures around the ship. Muted colours, pale coordinated colours. I was struck by the space, multiples places to find a quiet place, a range of places to eat many included in the price, others where you can chose to pay a cover charge. As you enter the ship you are met by the Grand Lobby which spans 3 decks, here you will find, bars and lounges, shops, future cruise sales, excursion desk and the pursers desk. The famous Queens room well known for entertainment through out the day and of course the famous afternoon tea. The Carinthia Lounge is at the top of Grand Lobby a great view point. Where to eat, you are spoilt for choice, the main Britannia Dining Room, Artisans Food Hall, The Pavilion Wellness Cafe and The Golden Lion Bar all included in the fare you paid. If you wanted to experience the speciality restaurants which do carry a cover charge US $. Tramonto - Mediterranean theme, Aranya- Indian, Aji Wa- Japanese and Sir Samuel’s Steakhouse and Grill. A quiet place in the Wellness Centre, a fantastic looking spa and gym/fitness facilities. As you would expect a selection of cabins to suit all tastes and budgets. Standard inside, outside and balcony cabins. Some balcony grades do have an obstructed view. Above the standard balcony are Club Balcony cabins these offer the benefit of open dining on your own table in the Britannia Club Restaurants. The next level up would be the Princess and Queens Grill suites, these suites come with their own restaurants and terrace. You will find entertainment all over the ship particularly in the Bright Lights Society, a new show bar, different shows each evening offering an interactive immersive performance. Queen Anne also has a 2 level Royal Court Theatre, no pillars to obstruct your view. Queen Anne will sail from Southampton for 2024 before her maiden World Cruise. Lots to enjoy. If you would like to more about Queen Anne or about any of the Cunard ships do get in touch, let me arrange that for you. 01425 639155 or 0800 093 0320 Caroline.howden@travelcounsellors.com I have included a selection of photographs taken during my visit yesterday. So what can I say about the ship I saw yesterday, this was a last minute opportunity to see the new ship and a different cruising concept. Explora 1. Explora Journeys are all about being at one with the Ocean, they aim to create an ‘Ocean State of Mind’ to enjoy a fantastic space ratio of 1.25 crew called hosts onboard to the guest. Only 925 guests on a 64,000 ton ships, lots of space onboard to enjoy in your suite or around the ship in the many lounges or out on deck. 6 eating venues, a steak bar, or a place with a French, Eastern or Mediterranean theme plus the Emporium Marketplace which is an informal eating venue where you can enjoy 18 different flavours from around the world. And the very special Anthology, the only place onboard to incur a cover charge, headed by a 3 Michelin star chef! 12 bars and lounges inside and outside all with their own personalities. Not forgetting the spa, casino, shops, a gym and much more. Explora Journeys are all about sustainability, protecting the environments they sail in as well as onboard including no single use plastics and energy saving technology through out the ship. Explora 1 (to be joined by up to 5 more over the next few years) will stay in Europe over the new few weeks before going to the Caribbean. The outside space is light and bright, the indoor space more like a small scale boutique hotel. Included in your cost will be your drinks, WiFi, gratuities, entertainments, exercise classes and much more. Special experiences ashore are an extra cost. If you would like to know more about this new entrant into the luxury market do get in touch. 01425 639155 or 0800 093 1320 Caroline.howden@travelcounsellors.com

I took the chance to spend some time onboard Arvia P&O Cruises newest ship when she was in Southampton. When we arrived passengers were leaving after having enjoyed a 14 night Mediterranean cruise - lots of coaches ready to take people home and cars being collected. You are soon impressed by the size of Arvia she and her sister ship Iona are large modern ships, when full Arvia can carry 5200 guests. Arvia and Iona are the 2 largest ships in the P&O fleet. Arvia joined the fleet in December 2022, she spends her time split between Caribbean fly cruises from Late October to Late March and Mediterranean cruises from Southampton from Late March to Late October. I have included a selection of the many photographs I took whilst onboard, we were able to see a few different cabin grades as well as many of the dining venues, bars and lounges as many onboard facilities we could in the time we had. So much to offer onboard 30 dining venues and bars, multiple lounges and 5 pools and much much more. If you would like to know more get in touch - 01425 639155 or 0800 093 1320.

Oceania Vista is a beautiful ship, 67,000 tonnes with only 1200 passengers onboard, this means plenty of space to enjoy. The feeling onboard is all about subtle intimate luxury, subdued decor. Onboard you will find outside space to sit and relax around the pool and watch the world go by or inside visit the spa and the gym, not forgetting bars and lounges, the shops and casino plus a choice a different bars and lounges. I have recently returned from a 7-night Northern Europe cruise onboard Iona P&O Cruises newest ship. I had been on Iona for 2 nights prior to her maiden cruise in August 21, this was a golden opportunity to see how the cruise operates in the ever-changing covid travel world we are all in. I wanted to go through the pre departure checks that my customers go through. I embarked at Southampton, arriving at the drive through testing area, vaccination proof and passport checked, onto parking the car, cases to stewards to load then into the embarkation hall. Health declaration checked again (I did this online 3 days before), as I was checking in my negative test result came through, final passport check then a short wait to get onboard – 1 hour from the test centre to being onboard. You are directed to your muster station and told to watch the safety video on the cabin TV. Time to start exploring, some lunch in the buffet area, my cabin (a conservatory mini suite) was ready at 1:30pm. Your cabin door key is placed in an envelope outside the cabin. Iona is a large ship, she can carry 5100 is full, we had 3100 onboard, having said that make sure you know which lists and stairs are the closest to your cabin, it can be a long walk if you find yourself at the wrong end of the ship. I made a point to try and experience as much of the ship as possible. I ate in various venues around the ship. Buffet area for breakfast each day, dinner in The Quays twice, Aqua restaurant (one of 4 main dining restaurants onboard) The Chefs Table, Buffett one evening and The Beach House and Keel & Cow (both carry a small extra charge) Also onboard is Sindhu the Indian speciality restaurant and Epicurean the A La Carte venue (charges apply to both). Epicurean is also where suite guests can enjoy breakfast. Lots of choice and something to suite everyone. We saw 2 shows in the Headliners theatre and 2 shows in the impressive Sky Dome. So much to do onboard IF you want to, the choice is yours. Iona has a lot to offer – multiple venues around the ship. Bars and lounges to enjoy, a cinema, Theatre, nightclub or dining show lounge, library, Spa and Gym, shops, the Sky Dome which includes a swimming pool, great place during the day but also a fantastic night-time venue when the area is transformed for spectacular shows. At the centre of the ship is the 3-deck atrium, this area is the beating heart of the ship, many venues are reached from the atrium it is also a great place just to sit and watch the world go by or have a drink or a coffee at the same time. Iona has a range of cabins grades to suit all budgets – inside, outside, balcony, conservatory mini suites and full suites. Cabins for 1, 2 3 or 4 and several adapted cabins for wheelchair users. P&O Cruises has introduced their My Holiday App can be accessed once onboard – this is very handy addition – from here you can pre book dining or evening entertainment or the daily program or keep up to date with your cabin account. *You do need a decent up to date mobile phone to get the best from this new feature* There is plenty of help onboard if you get stuck. We had 3 ports of call Zeebrugge for Bruges, Rotterdam (in port overnight) and Le Havre (rescheduled from Hamburg – for tours to Paris or Normandy. I was able to go shore in all 3 places either independently or on an organised ship’s excursions – we did both. I was delighted to be able to get away onboard a ship for a full cruise, it was certainly worth all the pre departure paperwork and testing and the post cruise testing and online forms. Iona will be sailing from Southampton offering a range of cruises – Atlantic Islands and Atlantic Coast, Norway and Northern Europe. Iona will be joined by her sister Arvia in December 2022. Arvia will sail from Southampton for her 1st few cruises then reposition to the Caribbean the come back to spend the summer sailing from Southampton. P&O is just one of the many cruise lines for Ocean and River trips that I deal with. If you would like to know more about Iona or indeed about any cruise you may be interested in Get in Touch and Get on Board. I was lucky enough to be invited to spend a few nights on board Regent Seven Seas newest ship Splendor. I along with a small group of Travel Counsellors travelled to Ancona Italy where she was built, onto Dubrovnik for some time ashore, a fabulous day at sea in the sunshine and then ending in Rome where sadly we had to leave to come home. This time on board gave us the opportunity to explore the ship and get to learn all about what is on offer. Splendor is the sister to Explorer. Very similar but with a few small differences. The colour scheme is very calm and relaxing, pale colours, high quality furnishings and beautiful original artwork on board. Splendour is just 55,000 tones with only 750 passengers and 542 crew, 14 decks (no deck 13) of suite accommodation and public areas. A wide range of suites all with a balcony, the very highest grade is the amazing Regent Suite. This incredible 2 bedroom suite is 4000 square feet in size and includes a grand piano as well as your own spa bathroom. Other than this suite there are 14 other grades of suites - something for everyone. This new ship is all about 'subtle luxury' or 'relaxed elegance' I felt a very calm atmosphere on board, lots of space to enjoy the ship both inside and out. All tastes are catered for with dining on board - 3 main dining areas Compass Rose, Pool Grill, La Veranda which becomes Sette Mari in the evening. Also on board are 3 restaurants that require pre-booking - Chartreuse (French) Prime Seven (Steak) and Pacific Rim (Eastern) along with that you can of course dine in your suite - all included. Plenty of venues on board to relax as much as you wish - Serene Spa & Wellness, The Library, The Pool Deck and The Sports Deck. In the evening enjoy shows on stage in the Constellation Theatre or spend time in one of the main bar or lounge areas. The most important fact about Regent Seven Seas is that are truly all inclusive - the price you pay includes all drinks, on board gratuities and an extensive excursion program. The only items you would need to pay for would be the shop, casino and the spa. Often flights are included and pre-cruise hotel accommodation is included and free or reduced price business class flights. These benefits can vary according to grade of suite you chose. As well as Splendor and Explorer Regent Seven Seas also have Voyager, Mariner and Navigator. Between them they offer cruises all year round to the: Caribbean and the Panama Canal, Northern Europe, Mediterranean, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, Africa and the Middle East and Alaska. I have chosen a few photographs from the weekend to show you what the ship has to offer. If you would like to know more about Regent Seven Seas please do get in touch.

Today I was lucky enough to be part of a group of Travel Counsellors able to spend some time on board Sapphire Princess, one of the growing fleet of Princess Cruises, 2 more join over the next 2 years Sky and Enchanted Princess. As you would expect as well as a range of cabin grades to suit all budgets and tastes - inside, outside, balcony, mini suites and suites onboard you will find numerous public rooms, somewhere to sit and enjoy the view, listed to a talk, see a show or try your luck in the casino. You can also relax on deck on a sun lounger around the pools, one of the pools has a roof if the weather is cooler. You can check out the shops, join in a class in the gym or relax in the spa. Princess travel the world, 380 destinations all over the world visiting all 7 continents. Princess Cruises have long been specialists in Alaska - more ships, more glacier visits, more park rangers on board and a wide range of Alaska itineraries with land tours as well. Some cruises will depart from the UK during the summer months otherwise fly cruises worldwide. There's something for everyone. If you want to know when is the best time to visit a region - then check when Princess Cruises go there and you can be confident that it is the right time to there. If you would like to know more about Princess Cruises then get in touch.

I was invited to spend time on board a ship which is part of the Cruise and Maritime fleet, this was Vasco Da Gama, their latest ship to join their growing fleet. We were able to be on board for a few hours to have a good look around this 55,000 tonne ships carrying 1200 passengers, 9 passenger decks, accessed by stairs and lifts. I was particularly impressed with the style and design of the public rooms, beautiful colours, very inviting and comfortable along with quirky extras. You can pick from Hollywood's a 2 level entertainment lounge, The Dome Observatory - a lovely lounge at the front of ship to watch the world go by during the day and a night club in the evening. Or the Blue Room for more late night entertainment. There are 3 main Waterfront restaurants - Waterfront Restaurant, Waterfront Mediterranean and Waterfront Eurasia - no sittings or pre-booking plus 2 speciality dining venues; The Grill steak restaurant and The Chef's table - cover charge applies. A central 3 tier atrium is where you will find on board sales, shore excursions plus various comfy chairs just to sit and relax plus the photo gallery. Also on board you will find a cinema, casino, bridge and card rooms, arts and crafts area, library plus the all important coffee shop and ice cream bar. Plus of course 2 swimming pools and lots of deck space to rest and relax with the benefit of a retractable roof. Not forgetting the Jade Spa, sauna and solarium and a well equipped gym. Or find a quiet corner and relax and indulge in the people watching. As you would expect there are a range of cabins to cater for all budgets, standard inside and outside cabins plus larger more luxurious balcony cabins and suites, something to suit everyone. 120 balcony cabins and 29 suites. The ship is very relaxed on board, staff very welcoming and friendly. The whole ship felt very welcoming with a warm relaxed atmosphere on board. Cruise and Maritime also have Marco Polo, Columbus and Magellan. All smaller ships. They operate a wide selection of cruises to world wide destinations including, Caribbean, Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Mexico, Panama Canal as well as world cruises. Cruises depart from various places including Bristol (Avonmouth), Tilbury, Liverpool, Dublin and Cork. Plus fly cruises to sectors of the world cruise or to their Mexican, Panama and Caribbean cruises. I have attached a few photographs taken yesterday.

I was lucky enough to be amongst a group of Travel Counsellors invited to spend two nights onboard this newest addition to the Celebrity Cruises fleet during her maiden call into Southampton in May. What can I tell you about Celebrity Edge - she was launched in November 2018 with 2900 guests at 129,500 tons. Multiple dining venues offering you a wide range of places to eat - anything from a light snack through to a gourmet 7 course tasting experience. 7 of these carry a cover charge and suite guests have exclusive use of the Luminae Restaurant -plenty of areas around the ship to dine which are free of charge - 4 main restaurants - Normandie, Cosmopolitan, Tuscan and Cyprus not forgetting the extensive Ocean View Café. Don't forget to visit the Magic Carpet - this amazing new feature is a platform that moves between decks - this can be somewhere for a drink, or an evening meal when it becomes Dinner On The Edge (cover charge applies) or simply a way to get on and off the ship when in port. There is so much to do and see whilst onboard, 16 bars and lounges onboard, 9 entertainment areas including a 2 tier theatre, Eden a multi-use area, an internet lounge, Camp at Sea for the younger cruisers, outside deck areas with pool, sunbeds and jazuzzis and so much more. Not forgetting a choice of shops and ways to keep fit or just indulge yourself in the Spa. Or of course you can find a place to sit and watch the world go by - many places around the ship to do that. Cabins onboard Edge offer a wide range to suite all tastes and budgets. You could really spoil yourself with the Iconic Suite and 2 level suite that can take up to 6 people in 2 bedrooms or chose from various suites which give you exclusive access to the Luminae restaurant and the Retreat area (a quiet area to rest and relax), or maybe various grades of balcony cabins including Aqua, Concierge and the new Infinity Balcony cabins. These have a new design which allows the 'doors' from the cabin to the balcony fold away to bring the balcony into the cabin and also the top half of the balcony front folds down, a great way to let the outside in. Not forgetting a selection of standard inside and outside cabins to enjoy. There really is something for everyone. Celebrity Edge will spend the summer of 2019 in the Mediterranean offering 10- and 11-night fly-cruises from Rome before re positioning to the Caribbean for the winter season. If you would like to know more about this amazing new ship, then do get in touch by email or by phone. I have recently returned from my own holiday. This time I chose to travel with P&O Cruises on their ship Azura. I picked a 14-night Baltic Capitals cruise from Southampton. 14 nights onboard with only 5 sea days meant lots of ports to explore - Travelmunde Germany, Helsinki Finland, St Petersburg Russia (1 night and 2 days), Tallinn Estonia, Stockholm Sweden, Copenhagen and Skagen Denmark. A lot to pack into two weeks. This was a cruise packed with things to see and do. Our embarkation at Southampton was smooth and easy. We parked the car at 12:20 and were onboard 20 minutes later, our cases followed a short while behind us. Off we went, two days at sea first for us to find our way around Azura. We had sailed on her before, so we know our way around, but you are given a very handy map if you need it and there is always someone to ask. Everyone onboard was happy and friendly and wanted to do as much as possible to make your time onboard as enjoyable as possible. If you needed anything in your cabin like ice in the ice bucket, more pillows or more hangers then all you had to do was ask. All the ports we visited offered something different and, other than Russia, you could go off and explore yourself or take an organized trip that the shore team onboard put together. For Russia as we were there two days an extensive excursion program was in place with all sort available - river cruises, private tours to the Hermitage Museum or Winter Palace, a visit to the ballet and so much more. Various places to eat onboard Azura, the buffet offered food almost all day, breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks, dinner and then late-night snacks. Plus, the three main restaurants for breakfast and dinner (first or second sitting and Freedom dining), speciality dining in Sindu, Epicurean, The Glass House and The Beach House - cover charges apply. There is so much going on if you want to get involved; a choir, line dancing, gym classes, ballroom dancing, port talks, specialist talks on jewellery or linked to where we travelled. Plus, all the evening entertainment, big West End style shows, singers, comedians and much more. There is certainly something for everyone. In total we travelled 3471 nautical miles during our trip with lovely weather most of the time, a little cloudy in Travelmunde and Stockholm and the sea was a little bumpy on the way home where the North and Baltic seas meet!

I have recently returned from my own holiday to Majorca, I have been in the travel business many years but have never managed to get to this popular Mediterranean island. For the first part of the week I was lucky enough to stay at the stunning La Residencia hotel up in the mountain village of Deia. This property used to be owned by Richard Branson, it is now a 67-suite hotel part of the Belmond group. Belmond are the group who own Orient Express and other luxurious properties, trains and River Cruises around the world, all handpicked for their quality and location. This hotel is all about switching off and enjoying your surroundings in a peaceful tranquil place, as soon as you arrive you relax. The service is almost invisible, nothing is too much trouble, they will arrange various side trips for you, a donkey trek up in the surrounding area ending with an exclusive lunch prepared by the chefs or you can take a boat trip around Port Soller or take lunch in Casa Deia the restaurant featured in The Night Manager. They have a main pool area as well as an adults-only pool and an indoor pool linked to the Spa. This really is a special place, if you are looking for somewhere to relax, to celebrate or just enjoy - only a short flight from the UK then this is the place for you. Simply stunning, if you would like to see more photographs then visit by Facebook business page - look for Caroline Howden Cruise Specialist. I was lucky enough to be part of a small group of Travel Counsellors invited to spend some time onboard Silversea's newest ship Silver Muse. It is rare for one of their special ships to come into the UK. They do sail from Tower Bridge in London sometimes so this was a rare opportunity to see the ship in Southampton. Silversea are a luxury brand, they do luxury in a discreet understated way. The décor onboard is subdued and subtle. Beautifully appointed cabins with everything you need to enjoy your cabin. Different dining venues around the ship offer everything from a light snack or afternoon tea to a Relais & Chateau restaurant. There are a mixture of bars and lounges around the ship, easy going informal areas to eat inside and out on deck or more formal venues. Or you can sit and watch the world go by. This ship carries 600 passengers with 400 crew. All food and drink and gratuities are included. The destination is very important to Silversea, they visit almost 600 ports around the globe including their expedition cruises to The Galapagos or the Antarctic. I have attached a few photographs to give you a feel of what this ship is like. If you would like to know more about this luxury brand then please do get in touch. 01425 639155 or 0800 093 0320

I was lucky enough to be amongst a small group of Travel Counsellors invited to see Holland America's newest ship Ms Koningsdam whilst she was in Amsterdam. Our hosts looked after us very well, treating us to a sightseeing tour as well as an evening dinner cruise also the many canals that Amsterdam is famous for. The ship arrived early in the morning next door to our hotel. A very impressive sight, Ms Koningsdam entered service in May 2016 she is the first in the new 'Pinnacle Class' Koningsdam is just under 100,000 tonnes but more importantly carries only 2600 passengers, she could easily take many more. This means she is a very spacious ship. The decor inside is lovely, beautifully done, very subtle colours, subdued decoration. There is a musical theme through, this runs through the ship from pieces of art to the names of the decks. A wide range of dining choices from informal buffet areas, traditional dining as well as speciality restaurants. So much to do onboard including a cookery school, a wine blending class, focus on the destinations visited,. digital workshops, a tie up with BBC Earth and so much more. Usual range of cabins from luxurious suites to standing inside, outside and balcony cabins plus a good selection of adapted cabins. Range of entertainment options including classes to learn something new, films and stage shows. Not forgetting The Greenhouse Spa & Salon for all those lovely pampering treats. Outside space is well appointed, with lots to do and see, sports courts, quiet areas with private cabanas or watch the large sea screen whilst relaxing - the pool has a roof! for cooler weather. I have attached a few photographs to give an idea of how she looks, I will put more on my Facebook page - please look for: Caroline Howden Travel Counsellors Cruise Specialist. Koningsdam is soon be ending her European season before relocating to the warm Caribbean for the winter. If you would like to know more about this ship and about Holland America Cruise line please do get in touch, I look forward to hearing from you soon.

I was lucky enough to be invited along with a group of fellow Travel Counsellors to spend some time onboard Regent Seven Seas newest and most luxurious ship Regent Seven Seas Explorer. We had a glorious sunny day in Southampton, the best way to see a ship. Explorer is a 56,000 tonnes but only carries 750 passengers all in balcony suites, this means plenty of space to enjoy this beautiful ship both inside and out. I have attached a small selection of photographs which show a few of the public areas, the deck space and the cabin is the very best the ship has the Regent Suite, simply a stunning cabin, I have not seen spa type treatment beds in the cabin next to the bathroom, along with special art work and glass ornaments and a private bar and of course a Steinway grand piano. The cabin is located at the front of the ship high up on deck 14 and spans the width of the ship. Regent Seven Seas are all inclusive meaning all your drinks, meals, gratuities and as many excursions as you want to do are all included. A range of dining areas onboard depending on your taste - Pacific Rim for Eastern inspired food, Prime 7 - steak and seafood, Chartreuse French inspired, the more informal The Verandah and the famous main restaurant The Compass Rose. The ship has numerous areas where you can take a drink, read a book, catch up with friends, listen to music watch a show. As well as all of the above you can enjoy beautiful pool area including an infinity pool overlooking the back of the ship, a super spa plus a gym so something for everyone. Regent Explorer will be in Europe until late 2017 before relocating to the warmer Caribbean, she will come back to Europe in April 2018. There are 3 other lovely ships in the fleet, Voyager and Mariner both 700 passengers in all balcony suites and the smaller Navigator for 490 passengers - 90% of the cabins with balconies. They also told us yesterday that a sister ship to Explorer will join the fleet in 2020. If you are looking for a special cruise experience then this could be the one for you. I have put more photographs on my business Facebook page - search for Caroline Howden Travel Counsellors - Cruise Specialist. Call me for more details.

I was lucky enough to be invited in a small group of specialist cruise agents to spent time onboard Cunard's flag ship Queen Mary 2 on a grey July day in Southampton. We were particularly fortunate to be able to see both Queens and Princess Grill cabins. Queen Mary 2 has recently had a major refit or Re Mastering as Cunard call it. You can see the improvements that have been made, the ship is much lighter and brighte colours give a fresher more modern and contemporary feel. The Grill cabins have their own restaurants and lounges where on they go but all other areas of this lovely looking ship are open to everyone. This is a large ship and as you would expect there are numerous rooms onboard where you can spend time - from the Queens Room for anything from Afternoon Tea to Ballroom Dancing, the Canyon Ranch Spa, the G32 nightclub, the 2 tier Britannia Restaurant and the 2 tier Royal Theatre not forgetting the famous Planetarium which is also a 3D cinema. Many different bars and lounges offering a variety of styles from the traditional Commodore Club, Atlantic Room, or Carinthia Lounge or the Golden Lion Pub - somewhere for everyone. It is a long time since I had seen Queen Mary 2, I was very impressed by the feel and atmosphere of the ship, yes she has some expensive cabins but for people like the finer things in life or for a special occasion what better way to celebrate than a Grill Cabin. Queen Mary 2 will be on her 2018 world cruise from January to May followed by a variety of transatlantic crossing and a few other destinations including mini short breaks, Norwegian Fjords, USA & Canada and Northern Europe. If you would like to know more about Cunard and the cruises this world famous cruise line offer then do get in touch.

I have recently returned from a short trip hosted by Scenic River Cruises. I was away with other Gold Travel Counsellors on a celebratory long weekend. We flew to Budapest to join Scenic Jewel, one of Scenic's fleet of Space Ships. These are beautifully well appointed ships, up to 170 passengers, three decks, two restaurants and a spacious lounge and open air sun deck area plus a small spa. The staff on board could not have done more for us, each cabin had their own butler to look after your every need. The cabin we had was a balcony suite with a very clever design - the front glass wall of the balcony folded down to open the balcony and then a glass door could be opened up to reveal the side of the cabin if you wanted to. A large wardrobe as well as a safe, mini bar and luxurious bathroom with fluffy robes and super L'Occitane toiletries plus a large shower. Scenic are an all-inclusive river cruise product so drinks, all food, gratuities, Wi-Fi, laundry and excursions are included. The spa is extra. We travelled from Budapest to Vienna which took around 24 hours and we were able to enjoy some of Budapest's sights. Sadly the weather wasn't brilliant but you could see what an impressive city is it. We chose to visit the Thermal Bath which was fascinating as well as invigorating. Others did a city tour or went to see the Hospital in the Rock or explored independently on the e-bikes that Scenic provide. Onto Vienna, what a wonderful surprise that was. We were lucky with a lovely sunny day to see many of the city’s sights. We picked a trip to the world famous Spanish Riding School or you could see the Schonbrunn Palace or explore in your own time. In some ports Scenic offer Scenic Enrich - these are extra special exclusive events held ashore such as concerts, opera or ballet performances. Food is well provided for on board in the main dining room or in the more informal River Café, when there is good weather dining can be taken up on deck. The beauty of a river cruise is the slow pace of travel, the perfect way to see and enjoy the scenery often on both sides of the ship. You will also have the services of a cruise director to help and assist, local expert guides and local entertainers come on board some evenings. Scenic has a range of destinations that they offer throughout Europe including France and Portugal, Russia and the Far East - new destinations are being looked at as we speak. I can highly recommend river cruising with Scenic and their sister company Emerald. If you would like to know more just get in touch.

I have just returned from my own holiday on board P&O Cruises ship Azura. I left Southampton on 19 June for a two week trip calling at Belfast, Stornoway, Reykyavik, Akureyi, Isafjordur, Lerwick and Kirkwall - so a real variety and it included five maiden calls for Azura. A very different itinerary and it was this that attracted me to this trip. Check in was very smooth. We had a check in time of 3:30pm so once we had dropped the car and luggage off we checked in and were on board 20 minutes later, a quick look around, muster drill and by then our luggage was outside our cabin. Although the ship is large she is quite easy to find your way around. She has all the facilities you would expect of a modern cruise ship; bars, lounges, quiet spaces to just sit and watch the world go by, a gym and lovely Oasis Spa and various dining areas including a few speciality dining areas which carry a small cover charge. The main dining rooms offer either set dining on first or second sitting, the more flexible freedom dining or the more informal buffet dining. Speciality Dining offers yet another choice; The Glass House lovely wine bar and dining venue, The Beech House, Sindhu - Indian dining or the dining experience of Epicurean up on deck 17 with an outside terraces overlooking the back of the ship. Azura has a range of cabins to suit all tastes and budgets; inside, outside then a choice of balcony cabins and more spacious suites. You can easily fill your time on board with numerous activities laid on for you to join in with if you want to or simply find a sunbed or a quiet corner and do nothing - your choice. I must add I found the staff all just lovely, happy and always smiling, always able to help if required. I have added some photographs on here of the ship, more are on my Facebook Business Page. Look for Caroline Howden Travel Counsellors Cruise Specialist. If you would like know more about Azura or anything else cruise related then do get in touch. Azura spends April to October sailing from Southampton before spending November to March in the sunny Caribbean offering fly cruises.

WOW! This is how you would describe Harmony of the Seas, what an amazing looking ship. There is no getting away from the fact that the ship is huge, some may say too big. This ship is very cleverly designed, there are numerous places for you to go onboard and spend time onboard, various bars and lounges, many different places to eat or spend time in the lovely spa or get active in the gym. You can slide down one of the 3 waterslides or are you brave enough for the Abyss, this is an amazing looking combination of 2 looping slides at the back of the ship. Not forgetting the ice rink, climbing wall and surf pool as well as the usual range of swimming pools and Jacuzzis. Your cabin could be a simple studio or classic inside or outside cabin - plus balcony cabins all the way up to luxurious suites. You certainly won't go hungry on this ship, everything from the classic Windjammer buffet restaurant, to exclusive speciality dining options. This ship is all about choice! Harmony will spend her summer offering 7 night cruises from Barcelona before settling in the Caribbean. Over the weekend of 25-28 September myself and a great group of fellow Gold Travel Counsellors went over to Tenerife for our Gold Weekend, this is a Thank You for doing well doing the year. Many of the company directors and head office staff joined us as well as supplier partners - Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, P&O Cruises and Cunard. We stayed at the lovely Bahia del Duque Hotel in Costa Adeje, one of the leading hotels of the world. I have been here 11 years ago for our main conference, lots of changes have taken place since then. This hotel is on various levels and occupies an elevated position offering fantastic views of the area. The hotel can be a little confusing to find your way around but once you have your bearings it is easy to find where you need to be. So much to explore, various swimming pools both fresh and sea water and some heated and some not, an extensive range of dining venues including a fish restaurant, a Spanish one as well as more international fare and possibly the widest choice at the breakfast buffet including champagne and a chocolate fountain. Very comfortable rooms with all the facilities you need plus a lovely balcony to sit out on. All the staff we met were happy and friendly and would do anything they could to make your stay better. All sorts of people staying at the hotel, various nationalities as well as families and couples of all ages.

I was one of 60 Travel Counsellors selected to spend 2 days onboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines's brand new ship Anthem of the Seas. This ship is certainly big at 168,000 tonnes and a maximum capacity of 4180, having said that the design is very clever meaning there are numerous places on board you can go to spend some time other than the obvious sunbathing. The interior design is beautifully done. As you would expect a shopping mall is waiting for to indulge, a lovely spa, an adult only solarium, children and teen centre, plus quiet areas just to sit and relax and watch the world go by. Eating and drinking is equally well catered for (forgive the pun) - a wide choice of where and what to eat, 5 of which carry a cover charge - all of the others are for you to enjoy - you name it you can find it on Anthem, Japanese, Steak Bar, Pub Food, Burger and Chips, Pizza, Fine Dining, coffee and cake, deck side snacks and lots more. Not to forget Windjammer a signature feature on a Royal Caribbean ship - buffet style casual dining available almost all day. Likewise if you are thirsty - various options to choose from here as well, from a traditional pub to a classic wine bar - not forgetting the innovative Robot Bar - you order your drink via an iPad, watch it being mixed and then delivered by the Robot! Anthem is packed with features and activities including the Wave Flow Rider, the Climbing Wall and now the I Fly or skydiving, bumper cars and of course the North Star, a London Eye style pod which is raised up 300 feet above the ship, a real bird's eye view of the ship and everything around her - at the top you are almost the same height as the Statue of Liberty. We must not forget the cabins - again plenty of grades to choose from - these range from a simple inside cabin through to a split level Royal Loft Suite - this cabin even has a Jacuzzi on the balcony. Every budget is accommodated for with a cabin to suit you. You are spoilt for choice when the day turns into evening, a 2 tier theatre more than capable of offering full production shows, Two70 - a stunning lounge at the back of the ship featuring an ever changing back drop of screens, cabaret lounges, smaller show venues, Music Hall and of course the Casino. Anthem will spend from April to October 2015 sailing from Southampton, she will spend the next 12 months in the Caribbean. There are 3 other ships in the same class Quantum, Harmony and Ovation. If you would more details or to know more about Royal Caribbean or about Anthem of the Seas then all you need do is call or email me!

Last week I was lucky enough to be able to spend 2 nights onboard the latest addition to the P&O Cruises fleet. Britannia is certainly a very impressive ship, the huge version of the Union Jack along the ships means she will not be missed in port. This ship has been designed by a leading hotel designer and that shows, she is sleek, smart and modern. Traditional features such as the Crows Nest or familiar named restaurants haven't been forgotten either. As you get onboard the 3 deck atrium is striking, from here stairs take you to various public areas or you can just sit and watch the world go by. Britannia has some new attractions - such as Epicurean an A la Carte dining room, The Live Lounge a dinner and cabaret area or The Cookery Club. The Cookery Club will host a variety of leading chefs offering cookery class and a chef's dining experience - may be you will see James Martin, Atul Kochar, or the wonderful Mary Berry and many more. Not forgetting The Retreat a lovely quiet area up on deck, or the Glass House wine bar, or the Market Café a patisserie or the Oasis Spa for a relaxing treatment and much more. I have attached a few photographs taken whilst onboard, if you would like to know more about Britannia and where she will be sailing to over the coming months do get in touch by phone 01425 639155 / 0800 093 1320 or by email caroline.howden@travelcounsellors.com Britannia will sail from Southampton until October and then spend her first season in the Caribbean.

I was lucky enough to travel on Ventura on one of her two night mini cruises. I had seen Ventura before when she was first launched. As she’ recently had a refit I was keen to see what had changed. The whole embarkation process was easy and quick, so in no time at all we were on-board and found our balcony cabin on lido deck. On-board there are maps to help you navigate the ship, failing that there are plenty of staff on-hand to help. Our balcony cabin was spacious and well-appointed with everything you could need for two nights or two weeks. Ventura is a large, modern, spacious ship, with lots to explore. She offers a wide range of bars, lounges, shops and eating venues. We were on Freedom Dining so ate in the Cinnamon Restaurant. The food and service was very good. There was a great selection and we had no problem finding a table for two each evening. Alongside the main dining rooms you could also eat in the more informal buffet area, The Waterside and Beach House. There is also the speciality restaurants - Marco Pierre White's The White House or Atul Kochhar's East - both carry a small cover charge. The ship was full so there was a happy buzz and a great atmosphere during the evenings, particularly on the formal night. Even though this was only a two night cruise, each evening offered a full entertainment program. There were full stage shows as well as various music styles and tribute bands to enjoy. From late October Ventura will be in the Caribbean doing a series of fly cruises from Barbados with direct charter flights from UK airports. From April 2014 she will undertake a series of Mediterranean fly cruises from Venice or Genoa, again with direct charter flights from the UK. Ventura has a younger sister Azura, which will also be in the Caribbean from late October. From April 2014 she will offer a range of cruises from Southampton. If you like to know more about Ventura or Azura please do ask.

I was lucky to be invited to join a small group of agents to spend time on the Celebrity Eclipse ship and even on a rainy day in Southampton, she was an remarkable sight. All the staff we met were very welcoming, friendly and always smiling. Eclipse is part of the Solstice Class that Celebrity Cruises first introduced in 2008 with the launch of Celebrity Solstice. This was then followed by Equinox, Eclipse, Silhouette and Reflection. They are a very impressive class of ship which feel very spacious from a clever use of space, colour, different materials and textures. Art is also present throughout the ship. From the Grand Foyer when you first enter the Celebrity Eclipse you are aware of the size and scale of the ship. There are so many different places to explore and to find your favourite place to spend your time. One very special area is the Lawn Club up on deck 15 which is an expanse of real grass used for music performances, picnics, games or just relaxing. The ship’s spa is particularly good for a calm and revitalising experience. If you chose an Aqua Suite you have free access to this area and also the Blu Restaurant which offers wonderful fresh food. Dining is a big part of Celebrity Cruises. They regularly win awards for their dining experience and Eclipse is no exception. It offers many choices of dining venues of which some have a cover charge starting from $5 per person up to $45 per person for a culinary master class in Qsine. There is also the main dining rooms and buffet style dining in the Oceanview Café if you prefer. As you would expect from a cruise ship there is a main theatre, all sorts of bars and lounges for you to relax in, a fitness centre and jogging track – definitely something to suit everyone. There are great family facilities as well with younger passengers well catered for with age related groups and activities in place for them. I thought Equinox was one the best new ships I had seen when I saw her in 2009, and Eclipse is just as impressive. I can see why she is so successful out of Southampton. It was the overall impression of warmth and space and an easy flow around that ship that made the whole day a real pleasure. I have attached a selection of photographs taken during my time on-board, which I hope will give you a small taste of this ship. Eclipse is sailing out of Southampton on various itineraries until October, she will then spend her winter in the Caribbean before returning in May 2014.

On June 8th I was part of a small group of Travel Counsellors who had been invited to a special travel agents event on board Princess Cruises’ newest ship Royal Princess. Royal Princess was in Southampton for a few days prior to her naming ceremony when The Duchess of Cambridge will be officially named as the ship's godmother. If you are a regular with Princess Cruises you will straight away recognise various features on board such as Sabatinis, The Piazza, The Sanctuary, Horizon Court, Princess Theatre, Vista Lounge and much more. Royal Princess is very much a typical Princess ship but also a modern contemporary ship. It’s very spacious and there’s lots of deck space with different levels to find a place to sunbathe including the adult only Santuary with private cabanas which becomes a night time venue and the Movies Under the Stars up on deck 16. There are various eating and dining options including the three main dining rooms and a range of other places to either get a light bite or snack, tapas, seafood, ice cream, pizzas or cocktails - so much to offer that you can choose from. The Piazza is particularly stunning; this really is the heart of the ship. This spans three decks and is the perfect place for a drink or cocktail in the Bellini Bar or some shopping or just to sit and watch the world go by and for enjoying a choice of entertainment throughout the day and into the night time. One new feature is the Sea Walk which is a glass-bottom walk way on deck 16, 28 feet over the sea. It has quite a view or you can just watch others walk on it from the Sea View bar. As you would expect there is a wide range of cabins to suit all budgets from a standard inside cabin up to luxurious suites, Royal Princess can boast more than 1000 balcony cabins. Royal Princess is a great addition to the Princess fleet offering the same high standard of services on board. If you would like to try a cruise yourself on Royal Princess, let me know. The ship will be in the Mediterranean this summer followed by the winter in the Caribbean and in 2014 her twin sister Regal Princess will join the fleet. I have attached a few photographs of Royal Princess to show you a little of what she has to offer.
