A few nights in Washington DC and New York

We went to Washington DC for three nights in December. After a comfortable flight from Heathrow and a transfer of around one hour we arrived at our hotel in Georgetown, The Fairmont. A great setting walkable to Georgetown high street and buses easy to get from there around Washington or there was a taxi rank right outside if required. We had breakfast in the hotel, a fantastic buffet, but you can just as easily take a stroll and go out for breakfast.

Try to visit some of the museums there. We fitted in the Natural History and Air and Space Museums.

We did the hop on hop off bus and I would recommend it for sure. It takes you around the all the city sites and right out to Arlington as well. We walked miles so wear comfy shoes. If you are able, visit the Capitol building. You can go inside on a tour and actually see the inside of the dome as well as the rooms where history was made.

The Lincoln Memorial is a site to behold, visit early in the morning before it gets crowded there and then walk towards the Capitol building via the WW2 memorial. It really was a lovely morning. Take the bus out to Arlington and stay a while in the cemetery.

After three nights we took to train to New York. It’s really better to do than fly, you can go first class for extra comfort and not much more! Brace yourself when you arrive in Penn station as it really is a crazy city especially coming from Washington DC where it is a lot quieter!

We stayed in the Novotel Times Square. Rooms are small but they all are in New York. Everything we needed was there though. The hotel has a restaurant that has an outside area with views over Times Sq. Again, take the hop on/hop off bus as it gets you around the city. It takes you out to Harlem as well as over to Brooklyn. We had a city cruise included which took in the Statue of Liberty. Walk the Brooklyn Bridge too. Visit the 9/11 memorial. Take in a show. There is so much to do there!

If you would like to visit give me a call!
