Dream come true stay and cruise 2017 part 2

Our driver Silvester picked up from Port Ferdinand Marina & Luxury Residences the next day, pointing out Rihanna’s home on our way to Mount Gay Rum tour. Sorry, a spot of name dropping!

This was another treat by Barbados tourism again kindly arranged by Kyle. We did the signature rum tasting tour discovering the history of Mount Gay, included in the tour was a welcome rum punch, history of rum and craftmanship, rum tasting of five signature rums. The tour lasts one hour and was well worth it, after the tour we went to the shop where you can purchase rum and other gifts. We thought the prices were very reasonable although we admit that we did come out of Mount Gay very light headed after drinking five shots of strong rum! We would suggest you book the Rum tour in advance as this tour can get busy, especially if cruise ships are in port that day.

We were glad that lunch followed, again kindly arranged by Kyle at Barbados Tourism. We ate at the Waterfront for a lovely lunch before boarding our cruise ship for the following itinerary: Bridgetown, Barbados | Bequia, Grenadines | St Georges, Grenadines | Kralendijk, Bonaire | Oranjestad, Aruba | Willemstad, Curacao | At Sea | Bridgetown, Barbados

The Silver Wind is a smaller size ship with less than 300 guests. Nevertheless, there are four restaurants onboard this ship and all suites come with a personal butler service who welcomes you to your luxury suite and presents a selection of bathroom amenities, including a choice of goose down, hypoallergenic or therapeutic pillows. He explains the entertainment controls, offers to unpack your luggage, hangs your clothing and sets out personal items. Then he discusses any special food preferences with the chef, ensures your drinks are chilled, makes onboard dinner reservations and can arrange private fitness sessions.

The level of service and attention is exemplary, and you can expect that your butler will keep your suite immaculate during your stay on board then he will prepare, clean and pack your luggage. You can expect a divine selection of Italy’s best cuisine to be served à la carte in La Terrazza. Offering authentic recipes and the freshest ingredients coming together with flair and passion, they say it’s a flavourful expression of Silversea’s distinctive Italian heritage.

La Terrazza uses the best regional ingredients like buffalo mozzarella from Naples, organic balsamic vinegar and olive oil from Umbria, air-dried ham out of Parma and aged Parmigiano Reggiano, while the pasta is made fresh daily onboard the Silver Wind.

La Terrazza opens for casual, buffet-style breakfast and lunch with indoor or al fresco dining on the outdoor terrace. During the evening, La Terrazza transforms into an à la carte traditional Italian restaurant with reservations recommended for dinner.

The Grill is the venue for the healthiest cuisine and features lava stone cooking using volcanic rock at a temperature of 400°C. Guests are invited to cook their food directly at their table, in the evenings, to your very own taste. During the day, The Grill becomes a rotisserie and gourmet salad and burger bar with a casual dress code.

The Restaurant is the main dining room and sparkles with silver, crystal and candlelight, serving contemporary and international cuisine with the sophisticated elegance and impeccable service as part of your prestige travel. Menus feature regional specialities unique to the voyage destination, for example, Roasted Chilean Sea Bass while cruising the Chilean fjords and Indian Chicken Korma en route to Mumbai. During days at sea, choose something from La Collection du Monde, a series of signature dishes created exclusively for Silversea cruises by the Grands Chefs Relais & Châteaux. You don’t need to book or reserve a table as you can dine when, where and with whom you please.

A fabulous evening is the La Dame by Relais & Châteaux where you indulge in an evening of fine wines complemented by a set tasting menu of regionally-inspired dishes in an intimate, elegant setting. An extraordinary six-course experience celebrating the world’s most distinguished wine regions aboard your luxury cruise ship with a reservation fee of US$60 per guest.

Also, onboard there is a casino, spa, fitness centre, swimming pool, show lounge for entertainment and a library. Gratuities are always included.

Our wedding anniversary was on the 9th December and our cabin was beautifully decorated with a cake and balloons, which was a nice touch. We had a mid-ship veranda suite with great views from our balcony when coming into port. During our cruise we were on full board basis which consists of breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. The package also includes selected wines, premium spirits, specialty coffees, as well as bottled water, juices and soft drinks are complimentary in all bars and lounges. Your suite’s mini-bar is also stocked with your preferred beverages including wines and spirits. Your butler will replenish them upon request. The meals were good, especially at the Grill restaurant at dinner time. We didn’t manage afternoon tea everyday as too much food! plus we were ashore some of the days. Whilst onboard we did see a live cookery show which was good.

Bequia we had visited before on a previous cruise, but it was lovely to visit again so we spent the day at the beach.

At Grenada we went to the local market which was good to see the local food and spices produced at the market. Afterwards we went to Grand Anse famous beach by local maxi taxi costing $2.50 per person. It’s a cheaper way to get to the beach stopping off picking and dropping off locals on the way, but it is a great way to see some places on the way. After the beach we went to the town to buy some souvenirs before heading back onto the ship. Currency uses Eastern Caribbean dollar and US dollar.
