Antigua Luxury Adventure
Let me take you on a journey of luxury and the best food around!
Lets explore what Antigua has to Offer.......
Antigua: Caribbean charm, powder-soft beaches and the warmest welcome
If you are dreaming of white-sand beaches, turquoise seas and that slow, sun-drenched Caribbean rhythm, Antigua is a beautiful choice. Just a direct flight from London, this island blends laidback charm with luxury hotels, exceptional food and some of the friendliest hospitality you will find anywhere.
I visited Antigua in April 2024 and it captured my heart from the moment I landed.
A smooth start: from London to island time
One of the biggest advantages of Antigua is how easy it is to get to from the UK. A direct flight of around nine hours from London transports you from everyday life to full Caribbean escape.
On arrival we were greeted by the sound of a live brass band in the airport, which instantly set the mood. It felt like a celebration of colour, music and warmth, and a wonderful introduction to the island.
We used fast track at the airport which meant we moved quickly through immigration and security, met our driver and were on our way to the hotel in no time at all. After a long-haul flight, that seamless transition into holiday mode made a real difference.
Staying at Blue Waters Hotel, Antigua
Our base for the trip was the beautiful Blue Waters Hotel, a luxury beachfront resort that really showcases the best of Antiguan hospitality.
Accommodation: from sea views to luxury suites
Blue Waters offers a variety of room types to suit different styles of stay:
Elegant rooms and suites overlooking the sea, ideal for couples.
Luxury penthouse suites for those wanting extra space and a more exclusive feel.
Suites with private pools for added privacy and indulgence.
A couple of luxury cottages that work brilliantly for larger families or groups travelling together.
The atmosphere manages to feel both relaxed and refined: think manicured gardens, sparkling pools and quiet corners to read a book, alongside stunning views out over the Caribbean Sea.
Beachfront setting & activities for families
The hotel sits directly on the beach, so you are only ever a few steps away from the sand and sea. The water here is calm and inviting, perfect for a dip at any time of day.
For families, the activity offering is excellent. There is a brilliant children’s and activities club where little ones (and teens) can enjoy:
Tennis lessons
Animal experiences
Cricket on the beach
It is the kind of place where children are genuinely welcomed and entertained, so parents can relax knowing everyone is having a wonderful time.
Dining: from relaxed breakfasts to waterfront lunches
The food at Blue Waters really stood out for me.
There is a main restaurant serving both buffet and à la carte breakfast, with a great variety of options to start the day. You can also enjoy lunch and dinner here in a relaxed yet elegant setting.
One of my favourite spots was the beautiful waterfront restaurant, where we enjoyed leisurely lunches right by the sea. The food was phenomenal: a delicious mix of Caribbean flavours and international dishes, beautifully presented and full of fresh, local ingredients.
The bar area is a real social hub, perfect for a pre-dinner cocktail or a nightcap. The staff here, as across the whole property, were truly exceptional. Friendly, attentive and genuinely warm, they really did go above and beyond, and that personal service is a big part of what makes this hotel so special.
Weddings & special occasions
Blue Waters is also a lovely choice for weddings and special celebrations. With its beachfront setting, lush gardens and elegant event spaces, it offers a romantic backdrop for saying “I do” in the Caribbean sunshine.
One thing that really stood out to me was the number of repeat guests. So many people return to Blue Waters year after year which is always a strong sign that a hotel consistently delivers a memorable experience.
Antigua: beaches, food and unforgettable experiences
Antigua is famous for its beaches (the island is said to have one for every day of the year) and its food scene, and during my stay I really began to understand why.
We enjoyed a range of excursions that I always recommend to clients looking to see more of the island.
Swimming with rays
One of the most memorable experiences was a trip to swim with rays. We were collected from the hotel by boat and taken out into the middle of the ocean, to an area where the rays naturally gather.
Here, you can get into the water, swim alongside them and learn more about these incredible creatures and why they are attracted to this particular spot. It is a magical, slightly surreal experience and one that really stays with you.
Shirley Heights
No trip to Antigua is complete without a visit to Shirley Heights. Perched high above English Harbour, this historic lookout offers one of the most iconic views in the Caribbean.
From here you can look down over the yachts in the harbour, the rolling green hills and the shimmering sea. If you time it for sunset, the colours are absolutely spectacular.
Catherine’s Café
We also spent time at the world-famous Catherine’s Café, a chic beachfront spot where you can sit back, sip cocktails and watch superyachts glide past.
The atmosphere is relaxed yet stylish, with excellent food and a great selection of drinks. It is the perfect place to while away an afternoon, toes in the sand, glass in hand, soaking up that effortless Antiguan glamour.
Cricket & rum bars
As a cricket lover, I could not resist a visit to the local cricket ground for a little look around. Antigua has a strong cricket heritage and, if there is a match on while you are visiting, it is a fantastic way to experience local passion and culture.
We also explored some wonderful rum bars where you can sample different varieties, enjoy a cocktail or two and chat with locals. Rum really is part of the Caribbean story and it is well worth making time to enjoy it properly.
A day trip to Barbuda
One of the highlights of the trip was a short flight over to Barbuda, Antigua’s quieter sister island.
Barbuda is known for its incredible pink-tinged beaches and ultra-exclusive hotels, and has long been associated with privacy and seclusion. It was once a favourite escape for Princess Diana and you can see why: the island has a serene, untouched feel, with long stretches of sand and a slower pace of life.
For clients staying in Antigua, a day trip to Barbuda is a wonderful addition: you get a sense of a completely different island character, while still enjoying that same warm Caribbean welcome.
