Why a Caribbean Cruise with Family Was the Best Holiday I Ever Took

Natalie Hurst on 04 Nov 2021

When I look back at my most treasured travel memories, one holiday stands out: a 14-night Caribbean cruise with my family, setting sail from Barbados after a direct flight from Manchester. It was November—a perfect escape from British drizzle to endless blue skies, turquoise seas, and sun-soaked adventures. Touchdown in Barbados: The Start of Something Magical

Island-Hopping Dreams

Each morning brought a new island and a new adventure. In Bonaire, we snorkelled in water so clear it felt like swimming in an aquarium, all while relaxing in a sea-facing bar with a cool drink in hand. There’s just something about sipping a cocktail with your toes dangling above the ocean, watching the kids marvel at vibrant marine life, that makes you pause and take it all in.

St Kitts was an absolute highlight for us. We took the iconic St Kitts scenic railway—a charming and colourful train journey that winds through lush hills and coastal vistas. The sense of old-world charm, paired with steel band music in the breeze, was unforgettable. Our return journey? By catamaran, of course! Slicing through the turquoise waves under the Caribbean sun was pure joy.

In Antigua, we decided to immerse ourselves in the local rhythm and hopped on a local bus to the historic Nelson’s Dockyard. Walking through this UNESCO site, rich in maritime history and colonial architecture, brought the past to life for the whole family.

Moments in St Lucia and Barbados

St Lucia w e strolled into the colourful town, soaked up the local atmosphere, and then let our hair down with karaoke and legendary rum punch at the Rum Shack—a real family favourite moment (even the shyest of us found ourselves on the mic!).

Barbados , we met up with old friends and savoured every moment on the beach, laughing and sharing stories under palm trees. It felt like home, but with a soundtrack of calypso waves and sunshine.

Why I’d Do It All Again

What made this cruise so special wasn’t just the jaw-dropping locations or once-in-a-lifetime experiences. It was sharing every moment as a family, rediscovering each other away from life’s everyday distractions, and making memories that will last forever.

If you’re dreaming of a holiday that balances relaxing luxury, iconic sights, and time together, I can’t recommend a Caribbean cruise enough. There’s something magical about waking up somewhere new each day, knowing everything is taken care of.
