Maldives - September 2024
One thing you won’t know about me and are probably a bit surprised about as I go on cruise all the time! is I don’t like small boats, cruise ships fine small speed boats are a no! the only way to reach the islands in the Maldives is by Sea plane which has a max luggage allowance of 20kg I was never going to manage that or by Speed Boat with the journeys being anything from 10 – 55 minutes, I chose the speed boat options and a max 15 minute transfer, hey I could close my eyes for 15 minutes! the island of choice was OBLU Xperience Ailiafushi,
I would describe OBLU Xperience Ailiafushi as modern rustic/traditional Maldives, white sand beach, turquoise blue ocean, one main restaurant and bar and modern accommodation from rooms in blocks sleeping from 2 to 4 people in the 2 bedroom family units, Beach Villas ( where I stayed) and Water Villas, the standard rooms, beach villas and water villas all sleep 3, ( double and single sofa bed).
The food is good, drinks although limited to a selection of cocktails, spirits, wines and soft drinks are plentiful, friendly staff and great service just what you need from 4 nights in paradise,
There is also a main pool and beach area with a water slide and trampoline in the sea making it a great choice for families you can also hire equipment for snorkelling and do boat trip with the experienced sports team
The island although small can be a long walk if you want to use the gym or you are staying in one of the rooms as these are quite a walk from the main area of the island, but there is 2 x golf buggies which go around the island which you can just flag down and hope on, My villa was 429 which was the perfect location to be close to everything
Did I enjoy it : Yes I did it was a perfect 4 nights to relax on my own, Would I go back : Yes, but probably not on my own, Who would I recommend too ; families and couples looking for a good value for money Maldives experience with stuff going on for the kids and a lively atmosphere around the pool
