A Magical Family Adventure in Lapland

Is there anywhere more enchanting for a winter getaway than Lapland? After spending four magical nights in this snowy wonderland with my family, including two granddaughters, I’m convinced that it’s the ultimate destination for families seeking festive fun, heartwarming memories, and a sprinkle of real-life fairy tale magic.

Landing in Lapland is like stepping straight onto the front of a Christmas card. Everywhere you look, frosted forests glisten under a pink-tinted sky, and the snow crunches satisfyingly underfoot. Our hotel at the top of the slope made for a warm and relaxing retreat after hours spent outside.

One of the absolute highlights for all of us—adults and children alike—was husky sledding. Bundled into thermal suits, we learned to guide our own team of spirited huskies across the pristine white wilderness. The whoops of joy from the children as we swooshed along were matched only by the smiles on everyone’s faces. It was exhilarating, heartwarming, and truly unforgettable.

A trip to Lapland wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Elves Village. We were whisked into a charming world where fairy tales come alive. The little ones met the elves, made gingerbread biscuits, and went to Elves School. With twinkling lights, woodland trails and just the right amount of festive sparkle, it was simply magical and ending with a special visit to see the big man himself – Santa Claus.

For a bit of high-octane adventure, we all tried our hand at snowmobiling. Zipping across the snow, the landscape glittering around us, was an amazing experience for the grown-ups—while the children loved being cosy and snug in the sleds, enjoying the wintry scenery. There’s nothing quite like feeling the icy wind on your face beneath a sky that seems far closer than at home.

Reindeer sledding brought a different kind of magic—quieter, gentler, and utterly mesmerising. We wrapped ourselves in blankets as our reindeer guide led us through snowy pines. With bells jingling and breath forming clouds in the cold air, the experience felt timeless and completely unique to Lapland.

We were treated to The Northern Lights on one evening – an amazing experience, standing at the top of the ski slope and watching the lights dance and move in the night sky.

For us Lapland wasn’t just about the activities— it was spending time together.  Whether you’re travelling with extended family, friends, or just your own little elves, it’s a destination that brings everyone closer together, making memories that are as pure and sparkling as the snow outside.

If you’re dreaming of surprising your family with the ultimate winter escape, Lapland should be at the top of your list. I’d love to share tips, personal recommendations, and help you plan a magical trip your family will never forget.
