Greek Island Hopping - Solo Traveller

Let's talk about the unexpected joy of solo travel, especially a recent walking trip I took island hopping in Greece. While solo travel can feel daunting, it’s also incredibly rewarding. What began as anxiety quickly transformed into a journey of self-discovery & making lots of new friends ( I travelled with a small group of like minded people who I had never met before). Wandering through ancient ruins, savouring Greek delicacies at local cafés, and getting lost in charming cobbled streets revealed rich connections and personal growth. The freedom to linger at a café or chat with locals truly makes solo travel special.

Adventure called with an early ferry from Athens to Naxos. As we sailed into port, blue skies and the majestic Temple of Apollo greeted us. Naxos isn't just about stunning beaches; exploring the Melanes Valley to find the 700 BC Kouros statue was unforgettable.

Next stop: the enchanting volcanic island of Santorini. The streets of Fira showcase whitewashed houses with blue doors & you can walk through them at a more leisurely pace out of the main summer months. I pushed myself with a 10km hike from Fira to Oia—breath-taking views all around! Santorini is known for its striking beaches and must-visit Akrotiri, but the sunsets? Absolutely magical.

Our final destination was the charming island of Paros, where a walk to Prodromos offered more stunning landscapes that took my breath away.

And, of course, no trip to the Greek Islands is complete without indulging in simple yet delicious food—Greek salads, grilled seafood, and a Mythos beer or two couldn’t be missed.

As I sailed back to Athens, I reflected on how this journey was about more than just visiting new places; it was about discovering a new version of myself. Pack your bags, the adventure awaits!
