The sun is always shining somewhere, so you’ll never have trouble finding a destination to visit if you’re looking for some sun. Here we reveal one top sunny destination for each month in 2018…
Glorious winter sun awaits in glittering Dubai, with average temperatures of 24°C. Relax on prize shores like Jumeirah Beach, which with camel rides and the world’s largest inflatable water park is ideal for kids. Sky dive above the artificial Palm Islands, stroll around the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab, party into the small hours at the over-21s beach club Nasimi or go on thrilling rides at Wild Wadi Water Park!
Beach haven Phuket is an ideal February destination, with 28°C heat. While away the hours on the iconic Karon Beach, a popular snorkelling spot with vast tracts of golden sands. Take your little ones to meet elephants and monkeys at the Phuket Zoo, view golden statues at the 19th Century Buddhist Wat Chalong temple, or zipline through the area’s dense jungle terrain for a holiday to remember!
Cape Verde has a pleasant climate all year, but March is a great time to visit. Enjoy heat of around 25°C while chilling on the beaches of Boa Visa, with its vast tracts of golden sands. Trek up the active stratovolcano Pico do Fogo for a real adventure, swim in the luminous blue waters of the Buracona lagoon, view art exhibits at the pink-tinged colonial-style Palácio do Povo mansion and much more.
Head to Cancun, one of the world’s biggest beach resorts, in April where 29°C heat awaits. Relax on the golden shores of Playa Delfines, or take your kids to swim in the gentle Caribbean currents of Playa Tortugas. Your youngsters will love the eco-archaeological park Xcaret, while other sites of interest include the Coba Mayan ruins and the Cancun Underwater museum with its amazing sculptures.
Cuba is a must-visit destination for sun-seekers in May, when temperatures hover around 26°C. Head to the Bay of Pigs where you can snorkel through vivid flat coral stands with your kids. Enjoy a picnic at the idyllic Casa de Caridad Botanical Garden in Viñales among orchids, trek through the rugged Guaniguanico mountain range or soak up the artistic vibe of Havana with its street art.
With average temperatures of 21°C, the Algarve in June provides fun for all the family. Cool off with a ride on the Kamikaze, Portugal’s highest water slide, at Aqualand Algarve. Visit beaches like Praia do Camillo, which has coves for your kids to explore or the secluded Praia de Albandeira. View rococo architecture in the traditional village of Estoi, or stroll the medieval cobbled streets of Faro.
Expect temperatures of up to 31°C if you visit Corfu in July, along with exciting attractions. Chill in the sun outside quaint cafes in Corfu Town while sampling treats like baklava. Sydney is popular at Christmas, with temperatures of around 26°C. Celebrate Christmas in style with a barbie on the famed Bondi Beach, a top surfing spot, before attending the legendary New Year’s party at Sydney Harbour.
