Travel to the icy continent of Antarctica and let this untouched and immersive land melt your heart. This once-in-a-lifetime experience offers plenty of jaw-dropping experiences from wildlife encounters to photo opportunities and activities including Antarctic kayaking and hiking onshore.
“Antarctica was our seventh continent and the perfect place to spend our honeymoon – what an amazing place. Once we arrived, we were treated to the most amazing scenery and entertaining wildlife. My favourite morning was when we got up at 5am and went out in dinghies to watch emperor penguins and saw icebergs of all shapes and sizes, with varied colours depending on the density of the ice.”

Due to ever-changing weather conditions, every Hurtigruten expedition is unique, and your captain will decide the sailing itinerary during your voyage. Two ships – MS Fram and MS Midnastol – currently operate to Antarctica and are soon to be joined by new fleet members, MS Roald Amundsen and MS Fridtjof Nansen. These ships have been constructed with polar travel in mind, featuring great amenities such as observation decks, lecture halls, an outdoor hot tub and much more.
“We stayed on one of Hurtigruten's Antarctic ships, Fram, and it was the perfect choice. The ship is basic, but the staff are so lovely, helpful and have a great sense of humour. We stayed in an outside cabin, and while it may not have been luxurious, it certainly was cosy and a great place to retire to at the end of a long day exploring. The ships are equipped with everything you need and all food and drink is included.”

This classic Antarctica expedition cruise is the perfect way to experience the Frozen Continent’s wildlife and natural beauty.
Your expedition will start in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires, famed for its tango dancing, street art and football, before you fly south to Ushuaia, where the MS Fridtjof Nansen awaits in dock. Your voyage begins with a crossing of the famous Drake Passage, during which you’ll be able to attend lectures on the environment, watch films about Antarctica and use the ship’s facilities including the pool, hot tubs and wellness centre.
Spending five days in Antarctica, you’ll get to go ashore and explore breathtaking scenery including cracking glaciers and sea ice, and encounter penguins – with ample opportunities to see whales and seals on deck too. You’ll then sail back across the Drake Passage to Ushuaia where you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Buenos Aires.
