Here are ten things that should definitely be on your list during your holiday in exotic Indonesia:
Discover the very best of beautiful Bali on this fascinating eight-day tour. Taking in iconic temples to ancient villages, and everything in between, this unforgettable adventure allows you to delve deep into the exotic island of Bali and discover just what makes it so truly special.
Day 1: Greeted by your friendly local guide at the airport, your tour begins with a visit to Goa Lawah temple. Meaning ‘Bat Cave’, this is one of Bali’s most important temples, and as its name suggests, it’s inhabited by a colony of bats. After some time exploring this fascinating destination, it’s on to Candidasa in the east, where you’ll stay for two nights.
Day 2: Wake up early for a morning trek to Pura Lempuyang – the ‘highest lantern’ of Bali. One of the most sacred temples on the island, the entrance resembles the gateway to heaven, opening with panoramic views as wide as from the summits of nearby Mount Agung and all the way down to the beautiful tranquil bays on the island’s east coast. After such an exhilarating hike, swim in the cooling waters of the sacred Tirta Gangga Water Palace and spend some time in the Tenganan village of the Bali Aga, the island’s first inhabitants. Marvel at the village’s unique architecture and find out more about the local people’s incredible customs and traditional lifestyles.
Day 3: Visit the sacred Besakih Temple on the western slopes of Mount Agung, Bali’s highest volcano, before a stop at the Beji Temple and on to lovely Lovina Beach on the north coast.
Day 4: Enjoy a leisurely morning discovering Lovina’s uniquely beautiful coffee ground-coloured sands, before an afternoon visit to the Brahma Vihara Arama temple. Marvel at the unique architecture and beautiful surroundings, and soak in the healing waters of the hot springs, before ending your day in the remote and wonderfully scenic area of Munduk, which boasts a real ‘Garden of Eden’ feel.
Day 5: Take a pleasant two-hour trekking adventure this morning, and after lunch, drive along a small mountain road to a viewpoint overlooking the ‘Twin Lakes’ of Buyan and Tamblingan - considered to be one of the best vantage points in all of Bali. Continue to Lake Bratan for a visit to the ‘floating’ Ulun Danu Temple, widely considered to be one of the island’s most beautiful temples, and take a leisurely stroll through the UNESCO Heritage-listed rice fields of Jatiluwih, before an overnight stay in Umabian.
Day 6: Spend the next morning in Marga, a typical rural village, where you can join the farmers in the fields; helping to collect coconuts and enjoying a traditional lunch. In the afternoon, it’s on to Ubud, in the heart of Bali, calling at the serene Taman Ayun Temple and the famous Tanah Lot Sea Temple en route. In the evening, enjoy an unforgettable Balinese dance performance – no trip to Bali would be complete without it.
Day 7: Head to Tampaksiring Village to explore Tirta Empul, a temple famous for its sacred spring water, before a visit to the unique temple of Gunung Kawi and a relaxing one-hour Balinese massage treatment at a local spa back in Ubud.
Day 8: Spend the morning discovering the many charms of Ubud, including the Ubud Royal Palace and a leisurely stroll through the bustling Ubud market. After a delicious lunch accompanied by breath-taking views over the Tjampuhan river valley, it’s on to the airport for your flight home.
