Mississippi

Known as the birthplace of America's most influential music genre— blues, follow The Mississippi Blues Trail which is made up of a series of markers throughout the state, learn the history and then enjoy the authentic blues performers in person in the many juke joints and blues clubs. Mississippi also offers an abundance of museums, historic homes, and Civil War battle sites to explore. Trace the footsteps of legendary artists like Muddy Waters and Elvis Presley and feel inspired by literary greats such as William Faulkner and Eudora Welty. Get closer to the region’s Civil War history with a visit to Vicksburg National Military Park, the site of a 47-day siege, now bearing 1325 historic markers and monuments.

Alabama

The Yellowhammer State is a must-see for its unique blend of history and music. Visit Montgomery, where Martin Luther King Jr. led the Civil Rights movement in 1955, and wander through Selma and Birmingham to relive pivotal nation-shaping events. Louisiana

Drive the historic Natchez Trace Parkway, let the Tennessee Music Pathways take you on a road trip that shaped music history, or take the Tennessee Whiskey Trail and learn about the history behind Jack Daniel’s Whiskey. You can also get an in-depth look at the Civil War by visiting one of the many historical battlefields, sites, and parks, or follow the Civil Rights Trail through Memphis to Nashville and then on to the significant town of Clinton in East Tennessee.
