Luxury Med sailings with Tradewind Voyages

Tradewind Voyages is unique in its offering of maritime voyages aboard a traditional yet contemporary ship that is guided by the wind and the currents. No less than the world’s largest square-rigged sailing vessel, Golden Horizon is a near-replica of the 1913-built ocean vessel, France II, and has all the charm, romance and sense of adventure of an historic ship.

Golden Horizon’s incredible onboard facilities include a marina platform providing a hub for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, swimming, snorkelling and sea bobbing, and there’s an onboard diving programme, too, for those who wish to probe the depths. Powered by the billowing sails for much of its journey, Golden Horizon mostly relies on renewable energy, minimizing the use of fossil fuels and helping to make each voyage more sustainable.

Early Bird Discount on the Mediterranean Collection

Next year sees the launch of Tradewinds’ Mediterranean Collection, an extensive series of voyages between May and October 2022 that includes visits to Spain, France, Italy, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia and Greece. Golden Horizon is going to be working its way across the Med, starting in Palma and ending up in the east, in Croatia, Greece and Turkey. Mediterranean Collection bookings made before 15th December 2021 will receive a 10% Early Bird Discount, bringing starting prices down to £1,619 per person on selected itineraries (Terms & Conditions apply, please speak to your Travel Counsellor for more details).

Northern Mediterranean Secrets, 1–8 May 2022

This round-trip sailing from the beguiling Mallorcan capital Palma takes you to cities including Valencia with its sights ranging from the splendid Gothic cathedral to the hyper-modern arts and science complex of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias. You’ll then head off to explore the north-west corner of the Med, stopping off at the lesser-visited destinations of Port Vendres in France – a wonderful spot to sample seafood fresh from the fishing vessels moored in its deep natural harbour – and Tarragona, where you can tour some of Spain’s most important Roman ruins.

Italy’s Islands and the Amalfi Coast, 13–20 June and 4–11th July 2022

Hopping from port to port, this journey will allow you to see some of the most iconic sites in Italy, from Rome’s world-renowned historic treasures to the archaeological wonder that is Pompeii. You’ll also get plenty of chance to get under the skin of Italian life and live like locals do – sipping limoncello in Sorrento, for instance, and eating authentic pizza in the city where it was created, Naples, in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius. There’s also an unforgettable ride across the picture-postcard Gulf of Naples to the lovely island of Capri.

Croatia Highlights, 31 July –10 Aug 2022

These glorious 10 nights will see you set out from Spilt to discover the Italianate city of Rovinj, unspoilt Mali Lošinj with its reputedly healing air, the Kornati Islands, where you can  swim or take part in various water sports right from the ship’s marina platform, and history-drenched Dubrovnik with its defensive walls, forts and labyrinth of cobblestoned streets. En route back to Split, other island stop-offs include Mljet with its hiking trails and shimmering blue waters at Odysseus’s Cave, sleepy Vis with its gorgeous bays and coves, and Brač with its famous V-shaped beach.

Greece and Turkey’s Ancient Wonders, 2–9 and 23–30 September 2022

If you think you know, Greece, this exclusive trip will give you some surprises, taking you off the beaten track, to the likes of Naxos in the Cyclades, home to Mount Zeus and the Venetian mansions and Apano Kastro (‘upper castle’) of Hora. You’ll also sail to the Dodecanese, mythical Leros (as the first international ship to visit the latter) and picture-postcard Kalymnos with its unique dive sites for those who wish to take the plunge from the ship’s platform. From this point, there’s a change of pace, with stop-offs in cosmopolitan Bodrum and Kusadasi, and the chance to visit Turkey’s outstanding UNESCO World Heritage site of Ephesus.
