The most luxurious stays in Morocco

With its ancient medinas, vibrant souks, off-the-beaten-track kasbahs, glorious desertscapes, and Atlantic and Mediterranean beaches, Morocco is one of our favourite destinations – a whole other world less than four hours from the UK by plane. We’ve shared some of our favourite luxury hotels and resorts around this fascinating country.

The most luxurious stays in Morocco

Four Seasons Resort, Marrakech

Set in 40 gorgeous acres of olive, citrus, and palm trees, between the cosmopolitan Ville Nouvelle and the hubbub of the Medina of Marrakech, this is a calm urban cocoon as well as a family friendly paradise. Many of its signature suites and villas are nestled away in secluded pavilions throughout the grounds, with their own plunge pools and gardens. The sleek spa lures adults in with its massages and facials infused with local eucalyptus, saffron, rose, olive, orange, argan oil, and rhassoul clay, while a huge kids’ club styled as a kasbah keeps younger visitors happy. There’s also poolside yoga and Pilates by request, and crafts and cultural workshops to enhance your stay in this fascinating city.

Les Jardins de la Koutoubia, Marrakech

This atmospheric property puts you at the very heart of the Medina of Marrakech, close to iconic Jemaa el-Fna square. But it’s actually a calm oasis from the city fray, hidden away behind the walls of an 18th century riad and including a wonderful Carita spa with no fewer than four hammams as well as an indoor pool. You’re surrounded by wonderful places to eat and drink, but make sure to stay in too - the hotel has a cosy, yet glamorous, Moroccan restaurant with live music and dancing, and the lovely Skybar which serves tapas.

Paradis Plage Surf Yoga & Spa Resort, Agadir

This first luxury resort of its kind in Morocco, between Agadir and the famed surfer's village of Taghazout, is linked with Australian surf brand Rip Curl and offers lessons in surfing, plus stand-up paddleboarding, and bodyboarding. There’s also yoga, hosted in two pavilions encircled by lotus ponds and sand dunes – including specialist retreats and sessions by visiting yoga professors. Another exquisite touch is that the spa treatments, based on ancient Moroccan rituals, can be enjoyed both indoors and out, caressed by Atlantic Ocean breezes.

Hyatt Regency, Taghazout

In Taghazout itself, against the backdrop of the Atlas Mountains, this is an oasis of modern luxury. It stands out for, among other things, its 27 hole par 72 golf course designed by golf legend Kyle Phillips, with an exciting route through argan trees and over two rocky ravines to a cliff 80m above sea level. Other big draws are water sports, a spa, a beachfront yoga and Pilates space, and the Camp Hyatt kids’ club with its cooking, sandcastle building, treasure hunts and more. Of the restaurants, Citron Brûlé is our favourite for its authentic Moroccan family brunches.

Sofitel Casablanca Tour Blanche, Casablanca

The city’s tallest building and the only one with its own panoramic rooftop bar, this outpost of French chic lords it over Casablanca's Art Deco and business district. As well as its view of the medina, the Hassan II Mosque, and the Atlantic Ocean, we love it for its two-storey spa with an indoor swimming pool, its Moroccan-Lebanese restaurant L'Atelier Oriental, and its French brassiere. The decor blends modern luxury with North African touches and all of the suites come with butler service.
