This Maldives resort is perfect for families

Sun Siyam Iru Fushi is the perfect tropical getaway for families, thanks to its amazing activities and accommodation that includes a small number of two and three-bedroom retreats. Located in Noonu Atoll (45 minutes by seaplane from Malé airport, where you can enjoy a use of an exclusive private lounge for Sun Siyam Resorts guests with refreshments, showers, and taster massages), this locally owned and run resort is one of our favourite recommendations for families in the tropical island paradise of the Maldives.

This Maldives resort is perfect for families

Among Iru Fushi’s brilliant value options are all-inclusive packages. The great news is, this resort also counts under-15s as children, who go free with two paying adults in the same room and enjoy the same board-basis free of charge.

We’ve looked at what else makes Sun Siyam Iru Fushi so brilliant for families with children of different ages.

Family-friendly accommodation

Iru Fushi’s stylish beach and overwater villas – all with butler service and 24-hour room service – make them perfect for holidaying with teens or for multigenerational holidays.

The beachfront villas have an ocean-view beach cabana, and some have a pool, while the overwater villas come with either a pool or an ocean-view hot tub. Then there are three retreat villas with pools, beach cabanas, fitness and games areas, kitchenettes, and personal butlers; one also has a private spa room.

Activities and facilities

Child-friendly features of this lovely property include a family pool (with a kids’ wading pool), a kids’ underwater park in the lagoon, and a water sports centre. There's also tennis and badminton courts, outdoor mini-golf, chess, shuffleboard, table tennis, and a kids’ club that helps children from 3 to 12 years old explore the island.

Fantastic activities include snorkelling and diving on the house reef (Nemo’s reef has clownfish and turtles), dolphin cruises, fishing and cultural outings. You can spend a day with local fishermen who supply the resort's restaurants, helping children at the village school practise English, or trading stories and recipes with women preparing the day’s catch.

Why adults love this resort

While the kids are busy making new friends, grown-ups can escape to the adult-only infinity pool with Indian Ocean views and the award-winning Spa by Thalgo France. With its holistic treatments (on the beach if you wish) blending age-old wisdom with contemporary techniques, along with a hydrotherapy area, yoga and Pilates studio, and The Spa Café for light, healthy fare, it's the perfect place to relax and unwind.

Other indulgent spaces are the Reflections beachfront infinity pool bar, the overwater Bubble Lounge for fine champagne and sparkling wines, and The Cellar with sommelier-led wine tastings. Plus there’s the scope for romantic dining on the beach or other locations (babysitting is available here) and for floating breakfasts in your pool.

Dining at Sun Siyam Iru Fushi

There are 14 restaurants and bars here, so all ages will find something to suit. The main Iru Restaurant has a separate area for families, a kids’ buffet at dinner and a play area. It serves breakfast and a different evening cuisine every night of the week.

There’s also upmarket Italian cuisine under the stars at the award-winning overwater Trio, beachfront Islander’s Grill with its open kitchen producing Japanese dishes and Maldivian grilled seafood, Asian eatery Bamboo, Japanese iron-griddle restaurant Teppanyaki, Flavours for award-winning overwater French dining, and the Taste of India in its garden setting.
