Unlock the secrets of Cambodia and Vietnam on this epic itinerary

This endlessly fascinating and colourful part of the world offers unique experiences you’ll never forget. There’s such a vast array, in fact, that tours are one of the best ways to experience them, ensuring that you really make the most of your time here. We’ve looked at a tour that showcases two of our favourite countries in the region on one epic adventure.

Best of Cambodia & Vietnam, 14th–30th April 2024 (other dates are available)

17 days from £1968pp (was £2319pp) inc. flights

After a welcome meet in Bangkok, you'll head to Cambodia to begin your trip. You'll start off temple-hopping at the world’s largest religious complex, the UNESCO World Heritage listed Angkor Wat, in the company of a local expert who will really bring the country’s ancient history to life. In Siem Reap, enjoy a private boat tour to discover floating villages on the edge of Tonlé Sap Lake. From there you’ll head to the nation’s capital Phnom Penh, where there’s more immersion in Cambodia’s past with thought-provoking and moving visits to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek.

During your time in Vietnam, expect to make memories that will last forever.  You’ll get to explore the Mekong Delta, known as ‘the rice bowl of Vietnam’: sailing through its intricate waterways, visiting the coconut gardens of Ben Tre, sampling tropical fruits and coconut jams, paddling in sampans, and taking a tuk-tuk tour of the villages to learn about rural life and see how locals make their living.

Meanwhile, a walking tour in Hoi An and a visit to the Temple of Literature will introduce you to his country’s cultural depths, and there are thrilling journeys, including by motorbike (around the Imperial Citadel of Hue) and aboard an overnight train to Hanoi. As you near the end of your trip, there’s a very special cruise to see the wonder of Halong Bay, including Surprise Cave, before spending the night on board the ship beneath the starry night sky.

There’s no danger of going hungry during your tour, which provides you with the opportunity to sample local food wherever you go. The treats in store for you include a dinner of the freshest local seafood on Halong Bay, a meal at a Buddhist monastery, elephant-ear fish and coconut candy in the Mekong Delta, and dinner at KOTO restaurant – a social enterprise giving young Vietnamese people the chance to cook their way out of hardship.
