Days 1-2: San José
Begin your adventure in Costa Rica’s buzzing capital, San José. Spend the day exploring the historic streets of Barrio Amón, known for its colonial architecture, modern art galleries, and colourful street murals. Satisfy your cravings at Mercado Central, a bustling hub filled with diverse flavours and the aroma of legendary Costa Rican coffee. After indulging at the market, explore the iconic Teatro Nacional, where performances highlight San José's history.
Days 2-4: Arenal
After a scenic four-hour drive to Arenal, a region famous for its dramatic volcano and thermal hot springs, take some time to settle into your new home by exploring your stunning surroundings. Start with a night tour to spot brightly coloured tree frogs, then cross the Arenal Hanging Bridges amongst the tropical canopy. Listen out for the calls of toucans and howler monkeys while relaxing with a dip in the volcanic hot springs.
Days 4-6: Monteverde
Your next adventure begins with a boat ride across Lake Arenal to reach the misty heights of Monteverde. Famed for its cloud forests, Monteverde offers thrilling activities like zip-lining through the treetops. Slow things down with a visit to the local cheese factory shop, where you can also treat yourself to delicious sorbets and ice creams. Or head back amongst the trees with a twilight nature walk and coffee tour to see another side to Monteverde at golden hour.
Days 6-9: Tamarindo
Head to Tamarindo, a seaside town that represents the laid-back spirit of Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. Begin with a guided boat tour through the Tamarindo mangroves, spotting crocodiles, herons, and iguanas in their natural habitat. Afternoons are yours to enjoy; try surfing the warm waves, saddling up for horse riding along the beach, or indulging in a fresh seafood dish
Day 9: San José
With memories of the jungle still fresh in your mind, return to San José to catch your flight home. Before you depart, take some time to explore San José’s bustling markets, where you can pick up unique souvenirs and enjoy a final taste of local flavours
