SENSATIONAL SEYCHELLES

15 December 2011

Located in the Indian Ocean, Seychelles has fabulous beaches of soft powdered sand, warm seas and lush vegetation. I was lucky enough to stay on two islands, Denis Private Island and Sainte Anne. Dennis Private Island is an inclusive resort which has its own grass airstrip where guests are welcomed to the island by the Island Manager. The main building which houses the reception and other main guest areas is open to the breezes and gives all round views of the swimming pool, gardens, the beach and beyond these the ocean. The stylish split level lounge and bar are furnished in neutral colours and fashioned from natural materials. There is no mobile telephone network on the island and no televisions in the guest rooms making it a fantastic retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday living, however, there are discreet internet access points and a television in the library, should guests feel the need to be in contact with the outside world. My accommodation was in a deluxe beach cottage which was very well appointed individual cottage which featured an open air bathroom with an al fresco shower. The cottage was sea facing with private decking, sala and day bed. A short stroll through the private garden is the private beachfront, equipped with sun loungers and chairs. Paradise! There are large areas of forest on the island with many native trees and flowers and is home to endemic bird species. Denis Island is virtually self sufficient and the working farm on the island is well worth a visit and a visit to the giant tortoise colony a must with the oldest tortoise being 150 years old. For the more energetic, snorkelling, diving and even a game of tennis are all regular activities which can be arranged. Sainte Anne Resort and Spa. This is a fully inclusive Beachcomber resort which is one of the finest resorts in the Seychelles and an ideal choice for couples and honeymooners. Sainte Anne is on a private island and is surrounded by one of the largest Marine Parks in the Indian Ocean, therefore no motorised water sports are permitted so as not to disturb the marine life. My accommodation was an ocean villa which had a spacious sitting area, fantastic bathroom with the option of an outdoor shower and an outside patio are with sun loungers. As some of the villas are a few minutes walk from the main hotel amenities, bicycles are provided as a means of getting around easily. There are four restaurants serving delicious food to choose from – perhaps take a complimentary trekking tour to burn off the calories! Conservation is an essential part of life in the Seychelles with so many plants being used for medical purposes; a tour with a very knowledgeable local conservationist is extremely interesting. The spa is a wonderful retreat with different treatments on offer and aerobic classes , yoga and gym are also available. Sainte Anne is only a short boat ride away from the island of Mahe and complimentary shuttle trips are available throughout the day. The Seychelles is a wonderful destination to visit at any time of the year and one I would love to return to.
