Explore the untouched island of Tobago

19 May 2020

Explore the untouched and extraordinary island of Tobago Indulge in a truly authentic Caribbean escape where the wild and untamed beauty of nature is rivalled only by the genuine warmth and hospitality of its people. If you fly to the end of the chain of islands in the Caribbean, you’ll find the beautiful country of Trinidad and Tobago. While the more southern Trinidad is the larger and more populous of the two islands, Tobago is an unspoiled trove of idyllic beaches, scenic activities and tantalising food. For the newlywed couple who wants an out-of-the-ordinary Caribbean honeymoon, Tobago should be at the top of their list—because whether you’re looking for adventure or you simply want to sit back and enjoy the views, it has something for every kind of traveller. From where to stay to what to do, there’s an itinerary for the perfect Tobago getaway for everyone. Getting there There are Virgin Atlantic flights out of London Heathrow via Antigua to Tobago; so a nice little stay-over is possible before travelling to Tobago. BA fly direct and indirect from London Gatwick via Trinidad to Tobago. It’s just a very short flight of just 25 minutes connecting the two islands of Trinidad and Tobago. Stay in Charming, Perfect-For-You Accommodations Before exploring everything the island has to offer, you’ll need to figure out where to stay. Tobago has a variety of resorts and hotels specifically designed for different types of travellers. If you’re a couple who wants an elegant resort where you can stroll through the gorgeous grounds, golf and relax poolside, Mount Irvine Bay Resort is your top pick. For newlyweds who want an experience with wellness-focused activities and meals made with sustainably grown ingredients, Kariwak Village, located near the airport, is ideal. There are also plenty of options for those who want to be on the ocean. Get Close to Nature and Wildlife More than 230 species of birds can be found in Tobago, so it’s no wonder that avid birdwatchers make up a big percentage of the island’s tourists. If you’ve never experienced birdwatching, snag this opportunity to get up-close and personal with hummingbirds, motmots, blue-grey tanagers and more at Adventure Farm and Nature Reserve. Take a leisurely walk along the property’s handful of trails to see its flora and fauna, and then sit awhile on the viewing deck to watch the birds as they come to feed. Turtle Watching Tobago’s immaculate coastlines set the scene for one of nature’s most remarkable rituals as giant leatherback turtles come ashore to nest each year. Witness this rare and moving sight between the months of March and September, when these magnificent creatures emerge from the water under the cover of darkness to lay their eggs at common nesting sites, namely Turtle Beach, Grafton Bay and Stone Haven Bay. Lounge on the island’s incredible beaches Tobago’s plethora of beaches make it easy to enjoy all that beach life has to offer, from soaking up some sun to swimming in clear blue waters. And there’s a place on every part of the island to take in stunning views of Tobago’s coastline. Couples who want a more secluded spot will love Englishman’s Bay, one of the island’s most beautiful beaches, shaped in a traditional crescent and framed by an abundance of palm trees. If a bustling hotspot is more your vibe, the government-owned Pigeon Point Heritage Park is popular with tourists and locals alike. There you’ll find white sand beaches and turquoise waters, the iconic Insta-worthy pier with a thatched roof, restaurants, and souvenir and water-sport shops. Indulge in romantic activities and water adventures Taking a dip in the waters of Tobago goes beyond its beautiful beaches. One of the most romantic spots in Tobago is Nylon Pool, a metre-deep lagoon created by a shallow coral sandbar out in the sea off Pigeon Point. Named by Princess Margaret, who likened the crystal-clear water to the transparency of nylon, this natural pool is a popular spot for island boat tours. You’ll want to share a newlywed kiss while you’re there, as it’s said that if a couple kisses in Nylon Pool, their love will last a lifetime. Afterwards, head over to No Man’s Island, an uninhabited stretch of sand that’s the perfect spot for couples to picnic and lounge in the sun. To explore even more of the island’s waters and aquatic life, snorkelling is a must. Catch a glimpse of coral reefs and tropical fish off the shores of Castara. Or book a tour of the coastline with Tobago Waterholics, which offers the opportunity to snorkel and see the beautiful reefs at Buccoo and Arnos Vale. Back on the island, there’s lots more to explore. A short 10-minute hike into Tobago’s rainforest in Parlatuvier will lead you to Parlatuvier Falls, a waterfall with a shallow basin you can bathe in, and one of the most beautiful, tranquil spots on the island. Because it’s nestled in the rainforest (a sight unto itself, with towering bamboo trees), the waterfall is a popular spot for relaxing and hanging out on a warm afternoon. If you’re looking for a romantic activity that could be equally relaxing, take a horseback ride on the beach with Being With Horses. Experience the island’s tantalising dishes Foodies will find no shortage of local plates to delight the senses. Bursting with flavour and heart, we highly recommend experiencing Tobago’s signature dish, curried crab and dumplings, from Miss Trim’s, a busy kiosk at the Store Bay Beach Facility in Crown Point, at the southwestern tip of the island. Coconut milk, curry, ginger and other spices are added to lime-marinated soft shell crab and cooked to perfection, before being ladled atop flat dumplings and served with provisions (root vegetables). If you’re in Speyside, at the other end of the island, you have to stop at Jemma’s Tree House for lunch. Lobster and fish dishes are especially delectable, and the scrumptious breadfruit pie is a must. With authentic food and beautiful ocean views, this is one spot that shouldn’t be missed. When it comes to dinner, opt for the best Italian food on the island at La Tartaruga, a gem of a restaurant helmed by Chef Gabriele De Gaetano, whose passion for food shines in his dishes.

Causeway Coastal Route Northern Ireland ~ Self-drive

30 June 2020

Discover the secrets of one of the best self drive road trips in the world! Stretching from bustling Belfast to the historic city of Derry~Londonderry and taking in some of Ireland's most incredible sights, the Causeway Coastal Route is sure to get your heart racing. Studded with sandy beaches, fishing villages, gorse-covered valleys and fuchsia-edged clifftop paths. Spend some time in the glittering city of Belfast and delve into where it all began for the Ship of Dreams at the Titanic Quarter Belfast Museum. You can see Titanic’s little sister, the SS Nomadic, the HMS Caroline a Royal Navy ship used during both World War 1 and 11. Explore St George’s Market a Belfast foodie Institution where you’ll find everything from chocolate to cheese. Fan of Game of Thrones (GOT)? Head down to Count Down and visit Tollymore Forest Park, Newcastle “The Haunted Forest” then head to Inch Abbey, Downpatrick, better known as Rob Starks’ Camp Riverrun. Travel eastwards to more scenes from the Blockbuster Series to National Trust Castle Ward and see “GOT Winterfell in the North”. Walk on water at The Gobbins.... The Gobbins cliff walk has clung to the enormous basalt cliffs of the Islandmagee peninsula for over one hundred years. The path is a one-of-a-kind experience: walk along the tubular bridge (33ft/10 metres above the sea) and marvel at the spectacular vistas and abundant wildlife. Cross striking bridges, climb stairways carved into the cliff face and explore hidden smuggler caves as the wind howls and the mighty ocean waves pound the rocks below. Then head into the busy town of Larne to Billy Andy's bar. Want to visit a storybook castle? You've come to the right place. Glenarm Castle in the heart of the Glens has been home to the McDonnell family since the 1600s. Take a wander through the castle gardens, too: they are among the oldest in Ireland, and the perfect spot to while away an afternoon in the sunshine. Try their cream tea or a light lunch. Fans of GOT will recognise the Cushendun Caves almost immediately. This is where the infamous "shadow baby" scene was filmed and it's one of the many GOT locations scattered around the Causeway Coast. Whether you're a fan of the show or not, it's well worth detouring to Murlough Bay (in GOT it’s better known as “Slavers Bay, Essos and the Stormlands”) to get a look at the big picture: a seemingly endless stretch of coastline and, on a clear day, maybe even a glimpse of Scotland. Just a few miles away lies Glenariff Forest Park, a gorgeous nature reserve in the heart of the glens, with three spectacular waterfalls and a choice of peaceful riverside walks. Don't miss the chance to visit Northern Ireland's only offshore inhabited (140 people) Rathlin Island. Chug across the picturesque Church Bay by ferry before landing in the harbour and exploring this marvel. Rathlin is home to some incredible legends, take a tour of the "upside down lighthouse", Rathlin West Light, one of the Great Lighthouses of Ireland. You can also discover some wonderful wildlife here like puffins and seals. Sway above the waves at Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. Suspended almost 100ft/30 metres above the sea, the bridge has linked tiny Carrick Island and the County Antrim mainland for around 350 years. Take a deep breath, step onto the sturdy, wooden slats, and you'll be rewarded by some of the best views on the Causeway Coastal Route. If you have more time it’s a short hop to Ballintoy Harbour, one of the many breathtaking GOT filming locations dotted along the Causeway Coast. Head to County Antrim’s Giant’s Causeway in time to watch the sun set – it's absolutely breathtaking. If you have more time tackle the, Cliff-top Experience Walk, with a local guide. The five-mile walk takes you along quiet routes that allow the best views of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Giant’s Causeway. The Old Bushmills Distillery is the island’s oldest working distillery. It’s been in operation since 1608, and the company’s distinctive single malt whiskey is still produced here today. Take a guided tour and you'll discover how the whiskey is made using traditional copper pot stills and a triple distillation process. Try a tutored whiskey tasting or a meal at the in-house restaurant, which serves Northern Ireland fare with a Bushmills twist. Ancient ruins at the end of the world... Dunluce Castle is possibly one of the most dramatic places on earth. The ruins of a 14th century castle are perched 100ft/30 metres above the wild ocean. In the 17th century, part of the castle simply crumbled into the sea during a monumental storm. Nowadays, Dunluce remains only in ruins, but it’s still utterly stunning. Portrush and Portstewart are two gorgeous seaside villages with lots to keep you occupied. The towns are wonderful spots for beachgoers, Blue Flag white sand beach, and foodies alike. GOT site - is Portstewart Strand” Coast of Dorne”. Head to Morelli’s ice-cream parlour for a sundae; while in Portrush, the restaurants in the Ramore complex, such as the Harbour Bar, are perfect spots for an evening meal. Take a stroll along Downhill Demesne, and look up: standing over the beach is one of Northern Ireland's most iconic landmarks Mussenden Temple was originally built as a replica of the Temple of Vesta in Italy. It’s a seriously impressive sight, particularly as the sun sets behind it: pack a picnic, ramble along the beach and then head to the temple for unparalleld views bathed in gold. GOT site - is Downhill Beach is “Dragonstone”. Stand on the city walls in Derry~Londonderry and you’ll feel the history is all around you. But there’s more to this place than its past. This is a vibrant modern city with a cutting-edge food scene, an exciting cultural life and a pretty impressive ability to enjoy life. A family affair: Why a cruise is perfect for all ages....

17 June 2019

From action-packed kids’ clubs and cool areas for hard-to-please teens to gourmet restaurants and sophisticated theatre shows for adults, cruise ships boast a whole range of facilities that will keep youngsters – and their parents and grandparents – happy. Cruising provides a safe, hassle-free environment for families and, with food, accommodation and non-stop entertainment included in the price, it’s excellent value too. A recently published annual Cruise Review industry report revealed the average age of passengers is now 57, due to the growth in multigenerational cruises. Cruises are becoming an increasingly popular holiday choice for families as ocean ships are built and renovated with families in mind, adding more interconnecting staterooms, building waterparks and game areas, and ensuring there are enriching activities on board and ashore for the whole family to enjoy. Most families take their first cruise in the Mediterranean and sailings from Southampton and Dover are a good choice for those with small children and for those who prefer not to fly. For older kids and teens, the Caribbean and Alaska are among the great destinations on offer. Many ships offer family cabins and Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Vista and Carnival Horizon have Family Harbor areas, with cabins for up to five and a dedicated lounge. The family cruise market is the fastest growing at sea and Carnival is the global leader carrying more than 800,000 children each year. We take ‘fun’ very seriously and our ships feature numerous kid-friendly amenities. There’s more family fun to come, with a trampoline park on Carnival Panorama at the end of this year and an incredible rollercoaster on Mardi Gras next August.” Family Cabins Royal Caribbean offers the Ultimate Family Suite on Symphony of the Seas, a two-storey suite including a slide between floors, 85in TV, video games and a floor-to-ceiling Lego wall. MSC Cruises, meanwhile, has Super Family Plus cabins – two or three interconnecting staterooms sleeping up to 10. On all 16 ships there are free-of-charge kids’ clubs, and families can enjoy entertainment together, from West End-style shows to exclusive Cirque du Soleil at Sea performances. Ashore, the Family Explorer Club offers families the chance to explore destinations through thrilling and educational activities.” Holland America Line’s ship newest ship, Nieuw Statendam, features purpose-built staterooms for families. The 32 specially designed ocean-view cabins have two bathrooms and accommodation for up to five. All ships offer Club HAL, where youngsters can let off steam while parents and grandparents relax in the spa, watch a cookery demonstration, enjoy a fine dining experience, dance, visit the casino or go to the theatre. Most ships also feature The Oasis, a teens-only sun deck connected by a passageway to the club area called The Loft. If you would like to push the boat out, consider lines such as Crystal Cruises and Cunard. Grandparents will appreciate the refined atmosphere and evening dances; mums and dads can chill out in chic surroundings while youngsters hang out with new friends. Amazing Value Crystal Cruises has a ‘Kids Sail Free’ offer in the Mediterranean this summer with junior cruisers aged 17 and under travelling free when sharing a stateroom with two adults on selected itineraries. These include an 11-night sailing from Lisbon to Monte Carlo departing 12 August 2019, the eight-night Monte Carlo to Rome cruise departing 23 August, and a seven-night round-trip Rome itinerary departing 31 August. These cruises offer not only great value, but also invaluable experiences in terms of family bonding, world education and memories. You should also consider looking at lines that traditionally cater for mature clients. Many grandparents will be familiar with Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, making it a good choice for a multigenerational school holiday trip. Itineraries with family appeal include Balmoral’s seven-night round-trip Newcastle cruise to the Norwegian Fjords, departing 16 August 2019, which blends spectacular scenic cruising with adventurous activities including cycling, hiking and kayaking. Last year Fred Olsen began installing rigid inflatable boats across our fleet, allowing guests to experience destinations in an entirely different way. The boats can travel at high speeds, for those looking for an extra thrill, or travel more slowly for those looking for a more leisurely ride. There is certainly something to cater for all interests for multigenerational families looking to travel together.” Safe environment for children Wide choice of family staterooms, as well as interconnecting cabin accommodation Entertainment for all age groups Meals to suit all tastes included in the fare Transparent pricing makes it easy for families to budget

8 Reasons Why Purchasing the Universal Orlando & Resort 3-Park Explorer Ticket Pre-Departure is a Wi

18 December 2018

1. My in-depth product knowledge of Universal Orlando will be a massive benefit to you. You’ll absolutely love me helping you plan out your time at Universal. It can be pretty daunting, especially if it’s your first time to Orlando. 2. By helping you pre-purchase your Universal Orlando tickets I am also helping you budget for your Orlando holiday. There is nothing worse than receiving your credit card bill after a holiday, right? I know I normally forget what I’ve spent on holiday and have come home dreading my next credit card statement. Budgeting and paying for tickets before you depart means you’ll have a more relaxing time whilst on holiday not worrying about additional costs. 3. Universal Orlando 3-Park Explorer Tickets are a pre-purchase exclusive. They are not available for purchase at the front gates of the three theme parks. They were designed specifically to offer the best possible value and flexibility for my clients. - 14 days of unlimited park-to-park access to Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and Volcano Bay. - The price of a 3-Park Explorer Ticket is usually cheaper than buying a 3-Park/2-Day ticket at the front gate! - You can come and go whenever you want, as many times as you want, for 14 days from the day the ticket is activated. - No hidden rules or conditions, it really is the best ticket option available. It was designed to be this way. 4. And you know what? The amazing value doesn’t stop there. The 3-Park Explorer, being a multi-day ticket, gives you free entrance to select live entertainment venues at Universal CityWalk for the duration of your ticket. 5. Just to make you aware of all the special events that take place at Universal Orlando including Mardi Gras and the Holiday Season which are included in the cost of your Explorer tickets. Plus, there’s the additional tickets for shows and events that you would probably love to go and experience such as the Blue Man Group show and Halloween Horror Nights. Tickets for both are available for sale pre-departure. 6. I’d like to dispel the rumours that you may have heard - that you can “get a good deal once you’re in Orlando” and buy cheap tickets. You definitely can’t. Only authorised ticket re-sellers in Orlando can sell the tickets. If ticket prices look so cheap there must be a catch, that’s because there is. The ticket may already be wholly or partially used or worse still, stolen. 7. I have access to our own agent partners ‘preferred suppliers’, who are experts and have gone through stringent health and safety checks, within our business when it comes to selling attraction tickets. I regularly check in with them as they’re always adding great value offers meaning I can secure even greater benefits for you when pre-purchasing your Universal Orlando 3-Park Explorer Tickets. 8. Finally it’s a great feeling when I’ve helped you book your perfect holiday to Orlando. However, I reckon it’s an even better feeling when you come back and book with me again. By telling my customers everything they’ll need to know about Universal Orlando before they travel and by selling you them best value pre-purchase ticket option this significantly increase the chances of them coming back to me.

8 magical reasons to visit Slovenia over Christmas and New Year....

06 November 2018

Fancy really getting into the Christmas spirit this year? If only a festive wonderland existed that is kissed with snow, whose cities buzz with seasonal cheer and whose markets burst alive with tempting festive foodie delights. Well the good news is that such a country does exist and it’s Slovenia. Grab a glass of mulled wine and get cosy now as you discover 8 magical reasons to savour Slovenia over Christmas and New Year. You're almost guaranteed a white Christmas Forget the dribble of snow that makes bookmakers nervous, but barely offers enough to make a decent snowball, in other parts of Europe. Slovenia offers the real deal with proper snowfall – you will see it sprinkled on her chocolate box pretty mountains as you fly in and find it gracing her cities too. That lacing of snow makes all the difference and you will feel like you are walking around inside a Christmas card rather than just sending them and dreaming of distant snow. The Christmas markets are spectacular Slovenia’s Christmas Markets are up there with anything that Germany can offer. The most famous are in the capital city of Ljubljana. Here the banks of the lifeblood River Ljubljanica come alive with all manner of festive stalls as part of the Festive Fair. You can savour everything from hot teas and mulled wine, through to grilled meats and chunky sausages. There are plenty of sweet treats too. You can also buy unique gifts, the kind that you just cannot get back home, like handmade crafts and seriously cosy hand knitted jumpers, gloves and hats. Your friends and loved ones will be glad you popped out to Slovenia. There's free festive fun in the capital Even the dourest Scrooge is sure to be converted by Ljubljana in the run-up to Christmas. Scrooge will be happy too that you can have fun for free. The city’s spectacular Christmas lights are justifiably famous. They are conjured up by legendary local artist Zmago Modic, who helps weave seasonal magic into the streets and its grandest buildings, with overhead lights and installations all part of a jaw-dropping collage. It’s not all just showy glitz, as there is plenty to see and do too. A multitude of free concerts and festive family events ripple through the city’s squares in the build-up to the big day. Take time to explore magical Maribor Slovenia’s second largest city of Maribor is no slouch at Christmas either. Magical December sees the whole city get into the festive spirit with a focus on the picturesque streets of the old town. Trg Leona Stuklja Square boasts concerts and a Christmas Village; Grajski Trg Square festive fairs, concerts and parties; Trg Svobode Square festive fairs and an ice rink; and Vetrinjski Dvor Mansion also hosts concerts, a variety of family-friendly events and other entertainment. A Maribor highlight is the Fairy City with music, street theatre, puppets and children’s movies. There are also free festive walking tours and plenty of opportunities for great gifts. Visit the fairytale city of Celje This lesser-known city is charming and deeply historic. Celje is also a star when it comes to its Christmas festivities and the city really puts on a spectacular light show. Wander the streets and you can encounter elves, fairies and even the man himself, Santa Claus. Delve for foodie goodies and gifts into the little fairy tale houses of the Christmas and New Year’s market, then enjoy outdoor concerts, or a romantic carriage ride through this fairytale landscape. You can pop over on a day trip from Ljubljana, but I recommend lingering longer. It's home to unique festive experiences Where do we start? Slovenia offers a multitude of unique experiences. How about delving into the underground netherworld of the massive Postojna Caves to experience their famous Living Nativity Scenes on a 5km adventure that is one of the world’s most thrilling festive experiences with 16 scenes and musical performances, with 150 performers involved in this subterranean extravaganza? Or what about attending the ‘Sinking of the Christmas tree’ at dreamy Lake Bled and then skating on the frozen waters afterwards in the shadow of fairy tale Bled Castle? Maybe you would prefer to hide away in a cosy mountain cottage, or just chill out in one of the termes (health spas) that dot the country enjoying a massage that will soothe away any seasonal stress. If snow is not your thing flee down to the Adriatic coast where the striking city of Piran stages its own Magical December festivities. Indulge in festive foods December sees a tempting array of festive treats appear on menus and at food stalls. The sweet-toothed will love the rolled dough potica cake, a seasonal gem found in all 24 of Slovenia’s gastronomic regions with everyone doing their own take. Tasty cakes and bountiful biscuits overflow from the Christmas market stalls too. Pork is popular as a festive dish throughout the country, again served in myriad ways, from slow-cooked roasts to chunky sausages. An unusual foodie treat are the capons, delicious young roosters! See in the New Year with a bang New Year’s Eve is a huge event all over Slovenia. Massive celebrations burst across Ljubljana’s three main squares in the biggest festivities, with everything from performances by talented local rappers through to full-blown rock. Events earlier in the day are designed to appeal more to families. The culmination of the day comes with an epic firework display over Ljubljana Castle. In Maribor the biggest party, which is said to have a heritage even longer than Ljubljana’s festivities, is on Leon Stukelj Square, while in Celje Krek Square is the place to go to dance your way into the New Year. The cities of Kranj, Novo Mesto and Piran are also renowned for being great fun places to spend New Year. What are you waiting for? Come on in and join a festive party guaranteed to get you in the spirit. 11 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do on a River Cruise

13 October 2018

~ U by Uniworld ~ River Cruises for a New Generation ~ River cruising for a new generation and it’s so cool, it is authentic, and it’s not only for the grandparents (though we aren’t saying you can’t bring your grandpa along for the adventure). You live in a floating boutique hotel These sleek black river cruise ships are about so much more than getting from point A to B. The swanky vessels are floating boutique hotels and resorts where you can live your best luxe life. Take your best shots onboard the top deck patio, or while you hop from one city to the next! The indoor bar has a special hydraulic roof that will collapse as the boat goes under bridges and all rooms come with a view, so you can fall asleep to twinkling city lights every night, it’s a hard life! Unpack your suitcase once There’s a romantic side to exploring European cities, but navigating your way on public transport, carting baggage around and always having to pack and unpack can be a headache. One of the best things about being on a river cruise is it’s an effortless way to travel. You’ll only have to pack and unpack once, all with a view of stunning city skylines and landscapes. Enjoy a leisurely brunch every day First, let’s all agree that brunch is the best. It’s a must-have for any great truly complete Saturday or Sunday. What could be better than brunching on the weekend? Being able to grab brunch every day of course! The fabulous chefs on a river cruise know the way to a person’s heart is through their stomach and are offering up all the granola, fresh-pressed juices, pancakes and eggs you could want. They also know that no one wants to wake up at the crack of dawn on holiday, so brunch means you also get to sleep in without missing your precious eggs benny! Let loose at a silent disco Silent discos have become a chic way to get your dance moves on without ruining the lives of local wildlife. Attendees get a pair of wireless headphones to party with and select a music genre of their choice. DJs spin tracks on different channels; each headset has a colour that will let others know what music you are listening to, so they can also dance along with you if they are on the same channel. It makes for a more social experience than traditional nightclub scenes. And if you want to have a conversation with someone, you won’t need to shout because there’s no loud music! Complimentary yoga and TRX classes Love staying active and want to keep those squats and downward dogs going even while on vacation? Well you can on a river cruise. The gym is bijou but fully equipped and you even get complementary Yoga and TRX classes led by a wellness coach on the rooftop deck. Eat locally inspired farm-to-table cuisine Experiencing the world through our taste buds is also one of the best things about being on holiday but looking for a restaurant where you can get delicious local food can be tiresome at the end of a long day. It can also result in making a huge misstep that ends with an expensive visit to a TripAdvisor tourist trap because you are vulnerable to hunger. On the U boutique river cruises, farm-to-table food (inspired by the destinations being visited) is only ever a few steps away. Drink bespoke cocktails and take mixology classes Have you always wanted to learn how to make signature concoctions worthy of the hangover? Or how about leisurely sipping a bespoke cocktail riverside? With bartenders whipping up drinks and providing you mixology classes, one of the coolest things you’ll take home from this trip are some new found skills and drinks to toast with. Glamp on a rooftop deck Chic state of the art rooms aside, what could be more glamorous than sleeping under a starry European sky while sailing down a river? While your friends are heading into the deep woods you can feel especially unique since you’re doing your glamping on a famous European river! Make one thing clear: this is a glamping experience like no other. Complete with ambient lighting, your cocktail in tow and stunning, starry views, enjoy spending a night or two sleeping in a cosy tent on the rooftop deck! Paint and wine nights What’s not to love about unleashing your artistic skills while sipping fermented grapes? Imagine painting Europe’s most scenic locations while you’re deep in the heart of them yourself. Finding the inspiration to access your creative skills won’t be difficult as you explore the world’s artistic centres throughout the day. Paint and wine nights aboard these river cruises will give you all the supplies (and views) you need to get your Monet on, just bring your creativity! Mix and match your adventures and excursions With river cruises that dock in the centre of the city, as soon as you step off the ship, you’ll be at the heart of everything. The cruises stay late-night or overnight in the port, so you have more freedom to explore every destination thoroughly. I really like U time outings because they have later start times which means you can chill in bed and contemplate #AboutLastNight, before heading out for the day. Their varied selection of excursions means you can also pick and choose your adventure, from rooftops in Paris and hanging off rocks in Swiss Franconia to eating all the Dutch cheese and hiking in vineyards. Our Cultural Tour to Morocco!

24 April 2018

Against the backdrop of beautiful scenery and oriental flair, I got to experience six amazing significant, UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites and four imperial cities over seven days. We started our tour of Morocco in Marrakesh and the Atlas Mountains visiting Beni Mellal, Fez, Volubilis, Meknès, the Capital Rabat, Casablanca, the coast of Essaouira and back to the magic of Marrakesh. Our tour was fully escorted and locally guided by English speaking guides. We set off on an impressive panorama drive towards UNESCO Fez via Beni Mellal and strolled through the verdant Jardin de Ain Asserdoun with its roaring water cascades. If you’ve a longing for a Henna tattoo, now was your chance. They looked amazing when done. Then we immersed ourselves in the Atlas Mountains, visiting Ifrane at an altitude of 1,700 metres. We’d left snow in the UK and were now looking at the last of the snow in Morocco. Along the way, the roadside and views were something else with grape vines, olive trees, cedars, eucalyptus and snow! Then we arrived in Fez where we wandered the spectacular medinas, a unique labyrinth of narrow alleyways and one of the largest old quarters in the world dating back to the 14th century. On the way we visited the Royal Palace of Fez with its shimmering golden gates. On our journey from Fez at the Borj Fortress, the views over the city were breath-taking. We then arrived in Volubilis, a Roman excavation site and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lastly, we visited a carpet weaving factory which just blew your mind. I wanted to buy every single carpet, they were just so beautiful. It was onwards with our journey to Meknès then Rabat. Behind the high walls lies Meknès another royal city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We visited the very impressive Sultan Moulay Ismail Mausoleum and got to admire the stucco and mosaics. Directly in front of the Mausoleum is the Bab El Mansour City Gate. It’s a site to behold that’s for sure! We headed towards Rabat, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the third royal city. We strolled to the Royal Palace of Rabat taking in the Hassan Tower and the Mohammed V Mausoleum. The following day we visited Casablanca to see the Hassan ll Mosque. It really takes your breath away! The minaret soars 200 metres into the sky. The mosque is one of the largest in the world and offers space for over 10,000 worshipers. The enormity and workmanship that took place in the construction is a site to behold. The chandeliers, what can I say. We then had a walk to discover the Mohammed V Square on our own. In the afternoon we set off back to Marrakesh, a UNESCO Site and our fourth royal city where we visited the Koutoubia Mosque, one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. The following day we went on a Magical Marrakesh Guided City Tour to the Sultan’s Palace and along the city walls as far as the magical market square. This was after we’d been on a horse-drawn carriage ride, that I forgot to mention. I’d never been in one and all I can say is I’m glad I did. The market square was alive with the sound of the flute snake charmers, fortune-tellers, faith healers, fire-eaters and theatrical shows, you name it, it was there! From here it was the Medina in the Old Town through the famous Bab Agnaou City Gate, a UNESCO Site. Lastly, we got taken to visit a jewellery and leather factory. An experience I’ll never forget. Lastly our final day on our cultural tour was upon us and we visited the beautiful coastal town of Essaouira again another UNESCO Site. Adorned with white houses with blue shutters in the Old Town. You could quite easily think you were in Santorini! For lunch we got to taste the freshest fish ever and then walk along the wall of the famous Portuguese “Scala de la Kasbah Fortress” to enjoy the view of the glittering sea. Simply a magical day! It was then time to spend a week relaxing by the side of a heated swimming pool with a drink in hand, in the sun, with jaw dropping views in the distance of the Atlas Mountains covered in snow! I’ll never forget that vista or Morocco!

Vietnam - Things To Know Before Your Trip!

31 January 2018

This list of useful tips and tricks of Vietnam is mostly intended for first-time visitors, but it can help anyone achieve safe and worry-free travel to one of the most amazing countries on Earth. Overall Vietnam can be divided into three main regions – North, Central and South – and as a rule of thumb I would say you’ll need a week for each at the very least. The weather varies a lot. Vietnam is in general humid and hot. However, with such an elongated country, it’s only natural the weather changes significantly inside Vietnam. There are three different weather regions. In northern Vietnam expect hot wet summers and cool dry winters. It can get quite cold here during northern hemisphere winter – from September to November – particularly next to the border with China. Central Vietnam experiences hot, dry weather between January and August when temperatures can hit the mid-thirties. Southern Vietnam boasts a full tropical climate, with only two defined seasons – wet and dry. The best time to go is obviously during the latter, from December to April. Get ready to haggle. Prices of things are very cheap but expect to pay whatever you can haggle for it. There are no fixed prices. It’s advisable to hide all items that make you look richer – watches, jewellery, big bank notes – to make your offer more convincing. Hanoi is the artistic, traditional and creative side of Vietnam. Museums, pagodas and temples pledge a solid set of touristy activities, but Hanoi is so much more than that. Despite being a huge city just like Ho Chi Minh City, it has somewhat of a village vibe. The fascinating maze of streets of the Old Quarter is the ideal place to get lost and shop for local handicrafts, great food or just do a fair bit of people-watching. Everyone’s a millionaire. Well, not quite. I’m sure there are many confused souls out there right now trying to work out the ridiculously high conversion of the dong. At the time of writing this article, 1 EUR = 26,200 dong and 1 USD = 22,700 dong. The good news is that there have been no coins in Vietnam since 2011. Vietnam is not by any means a conservative country when it comes to clothing. If you want to wear shorts, a shirt and flip-flops, that’s absolutely fine. When visiting temples and other religious sites, it’s advisable to cover-up as a sign of respect and restrictions may be applied regarding shorts and vest tops. If you’re visiting the north during winter, don’t forget to bring some warmer clothing! It’s a paradise for foodies. Dishes you need to try in Vietnam include Pho, the national Vietnamese dish. A hearty noodle and meat soup with fresh herbs eaten primarily at breakfast. Bun cha is grilled pork and noodles. G’i cu’n are fresh spring rolls filled with noodles, meat/prawns/crab and greens. Cha ca is one of Hanoi’s best, it features white fish sautéed in butter with dill and spring onions. Nem Ran/Cha Gio is prepared for special occasions, this fried spring roll involves different combinations of lean minced pork, sea crabs or unshelled shrimps, edible mushrooms and dried onions. You can find all kinds of tours to some of the most popular places in Vietnam such as an overnight stay in the Mekong Delta, a cooking class in Hanoi, a convenient Cu Chi Tunnels tour or a romantic cruise in Halong Bay. Do not book tours through your hotel/hostel as they inflate prices tremendously. Book through a reputable agent, like myself. Ho Chi Minh City is the place to be and be seen. There’s a bit of everything here, from authentic street food stalls to high-end luxury dining. Cafés where you can work a bit while grabbing a coffee are the best ever. And not to mention the rooftop bars. Other places in Vietnam also have them, but Ho Chi Minh City has a whole hub of them. The OMG Rooftop has drinks at decent prices and an awesome view over the Ben Thanh Market in the heart of District 1. Wi-fi is great. If you want to stay connected at all times you will need a local SIM card. Ninh Binh is underrated. Locals nickname this rural region the “Halong Bay inland” due to the massive limestone cliffs scattered in between the rice fields, ancient pagodas and endless caves. The scenery level is outstanding, the locals are extremely friendly and the whole place still looks and feels like an authentic gem. Most people visit Ninh Binh on a day trip from Hanoi, but you can also stay overnight. Avoid tap water, ice and salads and only brush your teeth with bottled water. If you do this and wash your hands regularly, you’re on track to avoid 90% of all food poisonings and tummy pains there. There are many ways of getting around efficiently in Vietnam. Here’s a quick overview - private transfers, trains - some of the routes – like between Hanoi and Sapa are beautiful and very popular with travellers. Internal flights cut travel times severely and are affordable. Contrary to popular belief, Vietnam is in general a very safe country. There’s hardly any crime as locals are extremely tranquil, kind and non-violent people. Use basic common–sense precautions. Some basic words of Vietnamese can go a long way. You’ll get a smile in return! - Hello – Xin chào (sin chow) - Thank you – C’m on (gauhm uhhn) - Excuse me/Sorry – Xin loi (seen loy - What’s your name – Ban ten gi (ban thane zee) - My name is… – Toi la… (thoy la…) Go for the street food! Being afraid to try street food is missing out on a huge part of Vietnamese culture. Cooked on the spot and served on plastic bowls or dishes, it’s better enjoyed in one of the pocket-sized tables and chairs on the spot. Eating on the street is as authentic as it gets in Vietnam and a fantastic way to travel on a budget. Full indulging meals can be found for $1. Yes, I said $1. Photographs that will make you want to visit Europe in Winter

16 December 2017

Sigh-inducing cityscapes lightly dusted with snow. Shimmering Christmas lights illuminating traditional markets. Imposing historical monuments standing proud, bathed in colour. In winter, Europe’s cities transform into striking, fairy tale locations that seemingly belong on the pages of a dusty tome. If you thought Europe was the dream in summer, these incredible photographs will leave you with some serious winter wanderlust. Berlin The morning sun glistens on a powdery white snowfall that dapples the ground in front of Berlin’s historic Brandenburg Gate. Krakow What a square and what a tree! Krakow’s grand main market is dominated by a giant, sparkling Christmas tree that towers over visitors and market stalls. London The snow-kissed Jubilee Garden’s on London’s Southbank look like something out of a romantic movie. A ride on the dizzying London Eye as the flakes tumble down completes the Christmas mood. Madrid Each winter, vivid, colourful lights illuminate Madrid’s imposing City Hall on Cibeles Square, bathing its Gothic ramparts in brilliant hues. Reykjavik The best Christmas lights in the world? Probably. The Aurora Borealis dances across the sky above a twinkling Reykjavik in Iceland – a country where it almost always feels like winter. Rome Where’s the sun?! Rome’s Coliseum is virtually unrecognisable under a generous sprinkling of snow, like icing sugar on a wedding cake. Prague Bright red and orange rooftops burst through the snowfall to match the hazy winter sunset in Prague. Bergen How cosy do these cabins look along Bergen waterfront in Norway? Log fire, blanket and a cup of tea; bliss. Paris Now you can see how it earned its nickname, the City of Lights! At night, Paris’ Champs-Eleysees glitters with all the colours of a rainbow. Budapest Those clouds of mist are steam emanating from Szechenyi Bath’s piping-hot geothermal waters. They stay open even in sub-zero temperatures. Would you take a dip? Stockholm Stockholm’s iconic, colourful merchant homes glow resplendently, lit by Christmas market cabins. Vienna Regal, opulent and even more show stopping bathed in golden floodlight. Vienna’s Neo-Gothic Rathaus simply stuns in winter. Edinburgh Edinburgh’s snow-carpeted spires and Regency buildings are straight from the pages of a Dickensian novel. Amsterdam Beautifully reflected in the canals, Amsterdam’s pretty lights look especially Christmassy in winter. Frankfurt Now that’s what we call a Christmas market! Held in the picturesque Römerberg, Frankfurt’s is one of Germany’s largest and certainly most beautiful. We travel to all these destinations. If you’re inspired to visit Europe in winter, discovering a Travel Counsellors trip is just a phone call away 01773 318470.

Top 5 reasons to visit The Gambia

09 November 2017

Here's just a small selection of reasons why we all love The Gambia. While you need few reasons to convince yourself it’s time for your next holiday, deciding where exactly to go is always a head-scratcher. Here in The Gambia, there’s only ever one option we’d choose. And yes, though we may be biased, it is for good reason. Superb climate, friendly locals, quiet beach resorts and diverse wildlife are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the reasoning behind holidays to The Gambia. Still need convincing? Here are five of our top reasons to visit The Gambia for your next holiday. 1. The warmth of winter sunshine When dreary weather hits the UK, The Gambia experiences almost uninterrupted sunshine and practically zero rainfall. In fact, from November to June, holidaymakers can experience average maximum temperatures in the low-30s, ensuring The Gambia is a fantastic winter sun destination – especially if you base yourself in one of our beachfront hotels. 2. A diverse range of accommodation While stays beside the sand and sea are certainly tempting, you can enjoy a myriad of accommodation options during holidays in The Gambia. Whether it’s 5-star luxury holidays, 2-star comfort, a lodge floating on the River Gambia or a stylish eco-retreat; this range of quality accommodation will suit all manner of holiday makers. 3. A soft introduction to Africa In many countries in Africa, the multi-sensory, vibrant atmosphere which accompanies day-to-day life can prove slightly overwhelming, or certainly not rejuvenating. In The Gambia however, you’ll encounter a more relaxed, laid-back pace of life. Culture shocks are commonplace when visiting developing countries, but the friendly locals will put you at ease as soon as you see their big smiles. In addition to this, the official language of Gambia is English, ensuring communicative ease and even access to English-language newspapers! 4. Feeling anonymous on the beach When the summer season arrives, a typical holiday maker will flock to the beaches of the Canary Islands, the south of Spain or the Caribbean. Unfortunately, everybody else has the same idea and this often results in crowded beaches and resorts. In The Gambia, it isn’t unusual to have the beach almost exclusively to yourself. And given that the country enjoys year-round sunshine, there’s no need to wait until the peak months to get your fill of the sand, sun and sea. 5. Time is on your side It may come as a surprise to some, but The Gambia functions on the same time zone as the UK. This ensures your holiday doesn’t lose a day or two as you battle with jetlag. In addition to this, a flight time of just six hours will allow you to enjoy breakfast in the UK and be sat by the pool with a drink by mid-afternoon. And with a range of activities, excursions and destinations to discover, you’ll want to make the most of your time in The Gambia. Find your perfect holiday in The Gambia. We’ve got a number of holiday ideas you can consider, ensuring you can tailor your perfect Gambian adventure with me.

My Top 10 Tips For First-time Cruisers

18 October 2017

A cruise is one of the most exciting holidays you can take – with the chance of seeing numerous destinations and learning about many different cultures in one trip. You can also opt for a wide range of cruises depending on your tastes, such as adventure or luxury cruises. There really is something for everyone. Whether you’ve already booked your dream voyage, or you’re only just considering one, then please contact me, my top 10 tips will ensure you make the most of a holiday of a lifetime. Consider staying on board during port days, especially if you’ve visited the area before. Ships are mostly deserted and it’s a great time to chill out on the ship’s spas and other amenities often have special offers on these days, too. Pack light. Yes – the holy grail for holidaymakers worldwide, but never has this been more necessary than on a cruise, especially if you’re going as a family. When we went we pretty much had a single wardrobe between the four of us, so think ‘capsule’ and bits that can mix and match into a number of different combinations. Make sure to pick the company and ship that fit your travel style and do thorough research on the ports of call and shore excursions before departing. Make use of your destination concierge – they have the best tips and hassle-free organisation for day trips inland. Also consider drink packages – it seems steep at first glance but it’s much better value for money in the long run. After all, you are on holiday. When budgeting work on the total cost from leaving home to returning. There can be many extra and hidden costs on a cruise vacation. Understand in detail what the fare covers. The key additional costs are usually excursions (which can cost up to £50 to £100 per person), gratuities (which may be added automatically), wifi, drinks and speciality dining. Make sure you have taken into account transfers to and from the ship and good travel insurance that includes cruise cover which I can organise all this for you. Always pack some kind of extension cable as the socket space in your cabin can be limited. If you’re like me and travel with 5,000 tons of electrical equipment, you’ll be glad for the extra space. I can charge my phone, toothbrush and iPod all at the same time, as opposed to maybe only being able to charge one of them. Keep your room cards away from your mobile phone. It’s very frustrating to get to your cabin only to find your key doesn’t work and you have to traipse back to guest services and queue to get another one. Wifi on board can be expensive and temperamental so write emails in ‘notes’ form and just go online to copy and paste and send. Or wait for a port day and find a café with free wifi. Unpack properly before the ship starts moving. Those cupboards have latches for a reason, you know, and playing “chase the rolling bottle of shampoo around the floor in the middle of the night” isn’t quite as much fun as you might think. Pay attention to ship’s time. When you’re in port, your mobile phone may automatically update to the local time. That’s handy if you need to know the time where you are, but less so if your ship has stayed on another timezone. Pack a watch and keep it set to ship’s time to avoid having to race down the dock after your ship. Take the time to get to know your ship as soon as you board. Bigger ships can be confusing and you could end up spending 20 minutes trying to find that sundeck at the front of the ship. If you’re travelling with older children, give them the job of ‘mapping’ the ship. Get them to discover where the best pools are, the family friendly restaurants, the sports facilities etc. That way they’ll feel important and you’ll feel more confident that they are less likely to get lost. For your cruise enquiries I deal with all the Cruise Lines and their Worldwide Itineraries and have access to all the different offers at the time. Adding pre and post-cruise land stays, transfers, excursions and flights personalising it for you. I can source your cruise options for your dates at a minutes notice so I’d be only to happy to help put a bespoke tailor made itinerary together for you.

A stellar line-up including the world premiere of Richard Linklater’s Last Flag Flying; Woody Allen’s nostalgia-tinged Wonder Wheel; Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut, Lady Bird; and the Todd Haynes-directed Wonderstruck. And those are just the highlights from the main slate of films. There is also a slew of special events, including conversations with Kate Winslet, Richard Linklater, and Ava DuVernay, as well as new restorations of classic films like Pandora’s Box and The Old Dark House. Open House New York Most New Yorkers will never be able to afford a million-dollar Manhattan penthouse, but thanks to Open House New York, a two-day long architecture and design tour series, you can get a behind-the-scenes look at city’s swankiest private residences for a wallet-friendly price of $5. And it’s not just private homes that are opening up to the public; this year’s edition features more than 200 buildings and projects, including the skybridge connecting the two towers of the American Copper Buildings; Governors Island’s Ligget Hall, a former military barrack with a secret archway gymnasium; and Lisson Gallery, housed in a building directly below the High Line. New York City Wine & Food Festival It’s not every day you get to have dinner with celebs like Chrissy Teigen, Mario Batali, and Ayesha Curry. But at this year’s NYC Wine and Food Festival, hobnobbing with your favourite chefs and culinary celebrities is but one element of the three-day fest. There are also cooking classes, including a hands-on master sushi rolling class with Morimoto; happy hours (we can’t wait for the one hosted by Scott Conant at The Standard Biergarten); and late-night soiree’s like this ladies-only craft cocktail event hosted by Food Network star Anne Burrell. New York Comic Con Get your cosplay costume ready: New York Comic Con is back and better (not to mention, bigger) than ever. After a turnout of more than 200,000 people last year, the 2017 edition has grown beyond the Javits Convention Center, and will also host programs at venues like the Hammerstein Ballroom, Madison Square Garden, and the Jewel cruise ship. Yup, that’s right— at CEG Cosplay cruise, guests can glimpse some of the best costumes of the year while rubbing shoulders with the likes of Kristen Hughey and LeeAnna Vamp and enjoying panoramic views of the city. Don’t have your sea legs? Check out ‘Artemis,’ a conversation with Andy Weir and Rosario Dawson; see the world premiere of ‘Batman vs. Two-Face’; listen to the New York Philharmonic perform the memorable score from Star Wars: The Force Awakens; or go on a boozy Brooklyn Defender Pub Crawl. Oktoberfest Under the Manhattan Bridge If you can’t make it all the way to Germany, the Dumbo Oktoberfest is the next best thing. On October 6 and 7th, the archway under the Manhattan Bridge will transform into a tradition German beer hall, with twinkling lights, live music from the Polka Brothers, the Oompahs, and the Street Beat Brass, and traditional bites like pretzels, brats, and draft beer served in traditional DUMBO steins. Don’t forget to wear your lederhosen!

My customer stories

I had a once-in-a-lifetime experience going on safari in Tanzania then staying in Zanzibar. Julia arranged the whole experience based on the feedback of what i wanted to see. She helped me with my flights when my login wasn't working and made sure I could get my covid testing in time fir my return home. I would definitely recommend her to organize a trip and I wouldn't hesitate to work with her again.

We can't thank Julia enough for arranging our Honeymoon, (and at such short notice due to the demise of Thomas Cook). Within a day of giving Julia an idea of what we wanted she came back with a solution, not easy considering that Julia also had to put together a two flight plan for us both ways as there are no longer direct flights from England to Holguin, Cuba. Julia is friendly and very professional and everything is done from the comfort of your own home, either via phone/email etc. Julia will also contact you at a time to suit you. In closing, I cant recommend her service highly enough and will definitely use her again in the future.

Julia has been amazing with us, we first contacted her last year for Lapland but due to finances and personal circumstances we didn't go ahead. Then in May we looked into Florida but again didn't go ahead as decided to wait a year. When I went back to Julia she must of thought we were such time wasters but third time lucky and we have booked our dream trip to lapland. Julia could not have been more patient with us, showing options, giving values advice and in the end we felt out of loyalty and trust in Julia we should book with her. Julia has made it all really simple for us, the app is great for showing all travel details. We are now on countdown with 33 days to go until our trip, Julia continues to answer questions when I contact her. Really happy with service provided and am keen to reccomend Julia to others. Most importantly she has won my super picky hubby over! Thank you Julia for putting up with us and putting all the work in, you have gone the extra mile

Saved the day! I can totally recommend Julia. She did a brilliant job, finding us our dream honeymoon to Cuba very quickly after our honeymoon with Thomas Cook had been cancelled. We've even got a pre-stay in Toronto which is an added bonus. I'd have no hesitation in scoring Julia a (Travel Counsellors) TC Score of 10 out of 10.

She was truly the most responsive and helpful part of our trip. This was a trip of a life time and she made each detail and Birthday extras special and just made it wonderful!!

Julia was very thorough in finding us the cabin we required aboard the Queen Elizabeth. Very helpful with the follow-up information... A TC Score of 10 out if 10 is certainly justified.
