Parga July 2018

Parga is definitely one of the most beautiful towns in Greece that I have ever been. It is located just under an hour from Preveza airport on the mainland.

Having visited in the early 80's I had never forgotten how beautiful it is and always wanted to return. It has certainly taken me a few years - although it has grown in size it has not been spoilt and I was so pleased to see this. It is still very much a relatively well-kept secret. Parga's tourism industry thankfully remains low key which is central to its appeal.

There are some lovely new boutique style hotels on the outskirts and down in the town there are plenty of smaller BB hotels and apartments to suit all budgets.

Parga is built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a mountain. It has a few bays and two lovely beaches with so many bars/restaurants/tavernas and food stalls to eat at that you will never get bored. The streets are cobbled/paved and mainly pedestrianised, you will need to be fit to explore so be warned. You can enjoy water sports and diving on the beach of Krioneria Beach along with chilling out in one of the new beach bars.

One of the most remarkable sites of Parga is the 14th century Medieval Castle built on the hill and well worth exploring to enjoy the views.

If you feel less energetic and just want to chill then take a boat trip out to Paxos, Anti-Paxos or Corfu for the day. Well worth a visit.
