Flight Disruption - Air Traffic Control technical failure

The UK authorities have today reported a failure in the nationwide air traffic control system. A fix has now been put in place, but severe delays have occurred at airports throughout the United Kingdom as well as flights connecting to the country.

NATS, the UK's air traffic controller, released a statement at 15:15 UK local time stating: "We have identified and remedied the technical issue affecting our flight planning system this mornings. We are now working closely with airlines and airports to manage the flights affected as efficiently as possible. Our engineers will be carefully monitoring the system's performance as we return to normal operations".
