Seven Nights of Wonder: Cruising the Norwegian Fjords Aboard P&O Iona
Day One: Setting Sail from Southampton
Our voyage began the moment we stepped aboard Iona, P&O’s flagship and one of the most innovative ships at sea. We soon settled into our spacious balcony stateroom and began excitedly exploring some of the dazzling venues onboard—such as the SkyDome with its retractable glass roof and the elegant Crow’s Nest lounge. As we waved goodbye to the English coastline, with a celebratory glass of fizz in hand, we couldn't help but feel like we were waving goodbye to all our everyday cares and worries too.
Days Two & Three: Sailing and Stavanger
After a relaxing day at sea enjoying Iona’s pools, spa treatments and delicious dining options, your first stop is the charming city of Stavanger. Wander pastel-painted waterfront streets, sample local cinnamon buns, and perhaps join a spectacular excursion to the iconic Pulpit Rock—an unrivalled viewpoint perched 600 metres above the Lysefjord. Nature lovers, photographers, and adventurers alike will be in their element here.
Day Four: Olden – Gateway to Glaciers
As Iona glides into Olden, you’ll feel the scale and majesty of Norway’s fjords in full effect. Here, snow-capped mountains frame the turquoise waters and the famous Briksdal Glacier awaits. Embark on a guided hike, hop aboard a ‘troll car’ to glide past wildflowers and waterfalls, or simply soak in the peace from a fjord-side café. The crisp air and sweeping vistas are unforgettable. We opted for the Briksdal Glacier; although it was raining heavily, this seemed to only enhance the natural majesty of the rugged landscape and our sense of adventure.
Day Five: Innvikfjord, Nordfjord & Geiranger
Iona’s journey continues along some of Norway’s most breath-taking waterways before arriving in the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord. Towering cliffs, dramatic waterfalls like the Seven Sisters, and sheer unspoiled nature create scenes that linger long in the memory. Don’t miss a thrilling RIB boat ride, a mountain viewpoint excursion, or a taste of authentic local waffles in the village of Geiranger.
Day Six: Haugesund’s Hidden Charms
The seafaring city of Haugesund offers another taste of Norwegian culture. Visit Viking-age sites, stroll picturesque harbours, or simply enjoy lively markets and cosy cafés. Iona’s wide range of curated excursions means you can tailor each experience to your pace and passions.
Day Seven: Relaxation at Sea
Your final day is spent at sea, giving you time to fully enjoy Iona’s extraordinary facilities:
Savour tapas at The Glass House, or feast at The Keel & Cow gastropub. Catch a show in the dazzling Headliners Theatre. Unwind with a cocktail and panoramic views in the Infinity Pool. Try a cookery class, spa experience, or afternoon tea—whatever relaxation means to you.
