Canada is a country of immense scale. The geography of Alberta and British Columbia is defined by its mountains - huge peaks, deep canyons, and ancient glaciers. Attempting to navigate this terrain alone can be daunting, but this 12-day itinerary curates the experience into a seamless journey. It combines the engineering marvel of the Rocky Mountaineer with a route that takes you through the heart of the national parks. This is a trip designed specifically for the solo traveller, offering the privacy of your own room with the security and social aspect of a group setting.

  • The two-day rail journey from Jasper to Vancouver is the centrepiece of this trip. The train follows a route that is inaccessible by road, offering views of the Continental Divide and the Fraser Canyon that few get to see. You’ll travel in SilverLeaf Service, which means panoramic views from oversized windows and hot meals served at your seat.

  • The town of Banff sits within the national park, surrounded by mountains that seem to rise straight from the street. You’ll spend time here exploring the local area, including a visit to Lake Louise, famous for its position beneath the Victoria Glacier. The journey north to Jasper takes you along the Icefields Parkway. This road is widely considered one of the most spectacular drives in the world, flanked by over 100 glaciers and offering a high chance of spotting elk and bears.

  • The itinerary concludes with a four-night stay in Vancouver. This city offers a sharp contrast to the wild interior, balancing urban architecture with immediate access to the outdoors. You will have time to explore Stanley Park, a 1,000-acre green space that borders the harbour, and visit Granville Island Market.
